Fender Player Meteora Bass

Remember how they had a Dimension covering every product level? Not one but *four* different models for the American Deluxe series? A IV, a V, an H and a HH. An American Standard, also four models, a MIM Deluxe and a Standard, a Modern Player, and also multiple Squier models.
Trying to please everyone at every budget level didn’t help, neither did focusing heavily on the high end models.
I’m fine with this approach. Nothing wrong with MIM, these days, and lots right. Maybe they’ll graduate up a level if they’re wildly successful, but if they’re not, dealers won’t have tons of expensive inventory to liquidate or return. Makes a lot of sense - and is what they *should* have done with the Dimension. It may have even survived.
From the reviews I saw, not impressed on the sound or look. The Sire M5/M7 sounds way better, made better (ebony fretboard, rolled edges....hum seem Fender copied that) and are less expensive. Plus the Sire sports dual coil pickups which you can set to single coil/series/parallel
This seems like an apples/oranges kind of comparison. Not discounting Sire equipment.
Not really. Aside from that horrible body shape Fender is trying to put out an active bass with humbuckers. But like most active Fenders they fall short. The Sire M series also sport humbuckers, just takes it to another level. Not bashing Fender, but never liked their preamps. Honestly I think my Fender Boxer basses sound better then that new one.
Lots of other completely different basses are also completely different.
How many Meteora critics actually own the bass? My Meteora is arriving on 3/23 and I will report back.

Other than that, people have convinced me to try out certain basses, but no one's ever talked me out of buying something I like.
I have seen pages and pages of Meteora “hate” from people who have only seem to have viewed pictures on the net. Don’t you think that is rather odd? I don’t really think a new bass deserves the descriptior “hate.” What did the instrument ever do to you?
Sure, but some people think buying a bass without even playing it first is rather odd.
Other than that, people put down almost every new Fender bass that isn't a Precision or Jazz.

Understood. I researched my most recent bass (black Epiphone Jack Casady) then bought it off of Sweetwater sight unseen and it is great. I don’t mind buying a Meteora blind and I’ve been playing bass ever since I picked up a Peavey in 1988.

What would be the point of that for an active bass? BTW, I much prefer passive basses.
