Fender Player Meteora Bass

The traditional Fender headstock doesn't match the shape of the body well. If they wanted to use a house design they could have recycled the Katana/Performer headstock.
Not a fan basically. At least they try new stuff.

Yeah it's not doing it for me though I think they should have done something more adventurous with the headstock so it's in keeping more with the overall design.

Would love to see a short-scale version with a Starcaster headstock.

I'd be more tempted if the bass came in this color.

Exactly!
Fender really dropped the ball.
Seriously, Black-and-Gray Burst and Two-Color Burst?
Shouldn't a Meteora come in Cosmic Jade, Fireball Burst and Deep Space Blue?

I actually really like the way this bass looks, and I am over 40. How does being over 40 make someone only like the original offerings from Fender? That's quite a generalization. Especially because Fender has been coming out with weird left field stuff since before I started playing. I started playing bass during the golden era of Fender Japan. My favorite Fender that I own is an MB-5.
Anyway, I'd love to try out a Meteora bass.

I should have qualified by saying that it would make sense to me that someone over 40 is more likely to be intro the “traditional designs” more so than others. I said 40 as I’m not too far off and it’s something I’ve noticed from my peers in my area.

I meant no offense. I think it’s equally fair to say that a younger guitar player is more likely to want a 7 or 8 string these days.

But of course our age groups don’t define us.

Not me.
I'm set.
I like the look, but the finishes are almost as bad as the MIM Player finishes.
I realize it's Fender, and they're not big on metal-flake finishes, but...
The blue is nice, but would've been better with a matching headstock or maple fretboard.
AAAAAAH. WE HAD THIS EXCHANGE BEFORE. THIS IS WHEN I LINK MY VISUALLY UPGRADED PLAYER JAZZ RIGHT?!

Time is a circle!

No interest at all even, as a fender owner. This is one of the few designs I look at and think, ???
More importantly, who in the heck did they entrust with aesthetic design on this one? I mean, if they slapped an ebony fretboard on it, I could start to see the appeal but, that blonde neck looks horrendous with that body.

Gotta love how people are already complaining about neck dive on a bass that isnt even out yet tho XD

i have a hunch it won’t have dive with that lower extension by the controls. That will help balance it a lot.
Time will tell. A key factor is that upper horn, and how far it extends toward about the 12th fret or so. Ime, an instrument configured like this one will tend to dive. A reasonable conjecture here. We'll see.

Idk maaaan. Horrendous is a bit too far. I'd prefer RW, but look at all the black jazzes and Ps with maple necks. It's a stylistic choice. It's not for me, but its definitely not something new.

I'm pretty sure Fender wants the Meteora to mean "modern". The HH strat had the ability to swap the tone/vol knobs if you are a Les Paul player.
Yeah, but instead of "modern" I think they are going for "mod." As in 1960's modern.

I predict this will go the way of the Dimension, the Cabronita P, and the Reverse Jaguar. Translation: it doesn’t matter how good or cool it is, it’ll get discontinued because it’s not a P or a J.

However - I think it would look awesome with a trans blonde finish and black pickguard, or a trans grey or white finish. Or trans black! For whatever reason I think some alder wood grain showing through, yet not in a burst, would be really cool.

As soon as the Meteora guitars came out, I thought it would make a great body shape for a bass. I suspect the offset body will balance out any neck dive issues. I like these and will be cheering for them to survive. Maybe I’ll get one in a year or three.

Yeah, unfortunately it won't last long. And the color choices could be better. The Jaguar would be long gone if it weren't a long-established Fender body shape.

Also, if it dives, it is because they should have shifted that rear strap pin to a more Spector-like position.
