Fender Player Meteora Bass

That's what it looks like to me also. I don't have a problem with the shape of the body, but the pick guard is re-defining ugly for me. I hope they didn't use a barrel jack for the output (I'm assuming that is a control switch I'm seeing near the third knob).
I like it very much, always loved the Fender oddball. If I was mainly playing 4 I would probably get one.

I'm on the fence about the PG. I like its ugliness (even if I break a TB rule by saying that). On the other hand, I think a couple very minor changes to the pickguard would make the whole bass look much better.
I like it. I'd love to have one, but at the end of the day, I kind of feel like it is just another active jazz bass. I love active basses but for me, Fender has never led the pack with active jazz basses. Put a Roscoe Beck passive circuit in this bass, though...
Point taken. Fender needs to do stuff like this to stay relevant in terms of "new models." But, the real purpose of introducing a new model is to scream "Fender" as loud as they can so they can sell more Jazz and Precision basses.
In other words, all is right with the world.
I like the Meteora.

Thanks. That is a weird piece of Fender history that I missed. Whimsical curlicues it is then.
Played a Dimension 5 several years ago and I liked it a lot but went with a Musicman … the D played really well and was balanced.
Seeing the Meteora bass makes me want the Dimension again. But perhaps it’s a counter to the Gibson Firebirds or just a niche to offer a non 60 year old design.

It's not for me.

Color is interesting, and the access to the upper neck is a nice innovation.

It will probably sell better than the Firebird-X.
