Fender Player Meteora Bass

That could be.

Admittedly I'm just going off of historically what has happened with other new Fender concepts.

We on TB aren't a perfect reflection of the bass playing population either. Maybe once these things are on the wall in Guitar Centers they'll be a smash hit with a younger crowd, etc.

I would love to be wrong. This thing looks wicked.

I actually really like the way this bass looks, and I am over 40. How does being over 40 make someone only like the original offerings from Fender? That's quite a generalization. Especially because Fender has been coming out with weird left field stuff since before I started playing. I started playing bass during the golden era of Fender Japan. My favorite Fender that I own is an MB-5.
Anyway, I'd love to try out a Meteora bass.

Fender takeoff on a reverse Gibson Thunderbird… But at least they’re finding good use for all those leftover Dimension pickups. :p (IMO it was a crime the way they let the Dimension just wither on the vine. Dimensions are truly great basses. One of the best designs Fender ever came up with.)

Either way, I’d really like to try one out. Looks like a fun bass. My inner headbanger is looking at it with a longing gleam in its eyes.
I’m pretty sure those are dual J pickups, not Dimension humbuckers.

What's up with the flourishes/accents on either side of the headstock logo? Perhaps I'm a shallow person but that would keep me from buying one. Design wise the bass looks like something good for pounding out simple, loud bass lines since your fretting hand will probably be holding the neck up. If I could get rid of the logo accents and put a pearloid pickguard on it I would hang it on my wall though.

They LOOK like double J's, and that might be whats inside, but IIRC they called them powerbuckers or something like that.
Seriously.
This thing is a really cool concept! So was the Dimension.
.

I think this is what'll happen too. Tey wont fly off the shelves, but they'll be loved and treasured by those with an open mind to try them out. I know I definitely will. And hopefully, they'll go the way of the dimension. Which is now actually becoming kinda sought after. It's not your typical fender, not at all, it's way more versatile and techy. Maybe they should name them "Modern" somethings... ;)
