Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

David, I wasn't ignoring you, I just somehow missed your post. I called Rock'n'Roll Vintage here in Chicago, where I bought the bass, and Heath told me that the original owner had died, so he was unable to get an answer about the SN on the plate. I just called Fender, and that SN plate belonged to a 1955 Stratocaster. My guy there and I speculated that the original plate must have been lost/damaged, and the owner took a plate off a Strat to replace it pretty early, because the plate has aged pretty much identically to the rest of the metal parts. Part of the mystery of the bass, I guess. The pots date to February 1958, and fall of 1957, and the neck dates from March 1958, and it's a two-tone burst, so March/April 1958 is almost certainly correct. having a 4-digit SN plate is cool enough by itself, so I really don't mind. I bought it to play anyway, not to put in a case.

I wish I could get the whole story, but the only guy who knew is dead. According to his family, he owned that bass since new. Hope this answers your question as much as possible.

That's interesting. That serial number plate - if it is legit - is pretty rare. You could probably look for a 58 era plate to replace it and then sell that 4-digit plate for a profit, unless you like having an obscure plate on the bass.

I'm hoping someone here can point me in the direction I have a 1959 Precision Body preferably the earlier version. I know about eBay and Reverb but I'm hoping that there might be some untapped Source out there.. the body on my current base has been sanded beyond recognition.

I see that the voice recognition mishandled my first post . I am looking for this body I don't have one that I'm trying to sell.
For some reason I am unable to edit my original post.
I want to know where I might find such a body. As I said I know about eBay and Reverb but no of no other resources

I have been checking the ads. Not sure what the best phrase to search for is so I have tried several combinations. I've not yet put

my own up, not really sure how many people actually read the wanted to buy ads but it is worth a try
