That's very cool but it isn't a '64: I see lollipops and block inlays: that's a late '66 or early '67.

I refinished that bass completely, It had been done badly with sweat stains and gouges etc. I had it apart then when I worked on it and the date I got was from the neck. It's been gone from about '83, so thers's no way to check it. I refinished it probably in about '78. Oh, if we had some of the ones we let go. Had a '66 and '69 Hofner too.
Is the 59’s case original?Member #37 checking in. My Oly White '63 Jazz got a new playmate last month. An early '59 Precision. I think they pair well

I'm sure I mentioned it before but I bought this bass from a TB'er friend of mine who was selling some of his collection. I already had the sunburst '64 in my avatar but his was so nice I grabbed it!
I thought it might have been from JK. I have a '71 that is getting ready for a new dress and I was going LPB but that CAR of yours looks so sweet.

the block & bound jazz basses were introduced in late 1966. in '64 they didn't have binding, just dots. '64's had clay dots and later '64's had pearloid ones. the all had bound necks with pearloid dot's in '65 to mid '66.
That's all education for me. I didn't get it till about '75. Then I rebuilt it. Someone played it alot, it had been refinished natural, had thumb gouges on the body and sweat stains all up and down the neck. I bleached and refinished the neck, smoothed and refinished the body. It was a beautiful piece when I finished. Unfortunately I sold it in about '83. I didn't play much in the '80s and didn't feel bad as I sold it to a young player who was far better than me.
Thinking I may have had one of those late '66 block/ bound models back in college.
Unfortunately it got away in the shuffle of graduation/ marriage/ move. Miss it terribly.
