Fender Precision Bass, fake or genuine?

Hi All,

Hoping to pick your brains on this, my Bass knowledge isn't so great.

I have an old Fender Precision Bass which was given to me some years ago in pretty bad shape. It had since been kept in the loft (not me who put it there) and have recently found it and took it out. Unfortunately as you can see in the photos, it's in very poor shape.

Wondering if this could potentially be a fake Fender Precision, are there any specific tell-tale signs or any reliable way I could confirm if it was genuine or not.

If genuine, do you think it would be worth fixing it up?

At a glance it looks like it might be a dirty mid-seventies Fender p bass with the knobs, tug bar, bridge, tuners neck plate and pick guard swapped out.

When I look again, I think only the poor neck MIGHT be authentic Fender. Strange truss rod cover at the head though. Maybe some shoddy truss rod mods were made and that's why the fingerboard is seperating? The neck looks oddly narrow though, especially for a p bass.

It appears the only thing “Fender” on the bass is the word “Fender” on the fake decal on the headstock.

It looks like the body might still be in useable condition!

Total fake. You can see the outline of the sticker on the headstock. Bridge and tuners are clearly not Fender. Truss rod cover? Nope. Still might be worth cleaning up, maybe it plays nice?

poor old bass.....just wanted to be played and loved,not squirreled away and forgotten....poor old thing,,,,slapped with a fake tattoo claiming its somthing of importance......now its labeled as junk!......you need to step up and give this guitar a chance,,,fix it up if you can, and pass it on to a young kid thats itching to become a bass player..
i think ole ''crusty'' deserves love.....

The truss rod cover is an Epiphone, with the three mounting screws.

To be fair, they did try to put the E string in the correct nut slot. A for effort?
