Fender road worn odor?

:hmm:Anyone else notice the "Acrylic oil paint" smell coming
off the finishes on these basses? Freaky deaky! Mom used to
paint in oils, so it sparks a warm memory for me, but I'm kind
of concerned about this potentially noxious, or perhaps toxic
by-product of whatever they're spraying these things with.
The poly and nitro finished axes I've 'smelled' were indeed
odorless. Anybody?

it'll probably flash off to no smell pretty soon, it's like new car smell...gone after a few weeks. I've noticed that new cases have a smell more than the instruments. there was a thread about smoke smell a few days ago, maybe get some ideas off there if it bothers you too much.

Was the finish also "grabby" or sticky. I noticed that as well on 3 RWs I tried (2 guitars and one bass). I wonder if the finishes are sufficiently cured before shipping?

You must of ordered it, and got it brand new... My Hwy One had that smell when I ordered mine... I never noticed it on the ones that I played at the store, but that is because they had been sitting out for awhile...

Anyway it is a strong funky smell, and it will go away..

Fender takes relicing very seriously.
It isn't a good fake if it smells right.

Let's see if I get your point. A "good fake" has to smell "wrong." Is that it?

I presume you say this because you are able to tell right from wrong on this topic.

Let us know how YOU think is should smell. OK? :eyebrow:

I don't own one yet (probably won't) the example I speak of was hanging in a shop uncased. I smelled it about 3 weeks ago, went back saturday, still there (bass and odor). I guess
my Mom's 35 year old oil paintings don't stink too much anymore. I'm just saying is all......

On a similar note... I used to love that 'sweet' guitar shop smell. I used to call it 'that Fender' smell... does anyone know what I'm talking about?

When I first got my Stingray it absolutely reeked of it... superb. What was it?

I used to think it was some kind of Beeswax... I'd love to get that smell back.
