Fender Rumble Club

I'm very excited to say I should be the owner of a 2nd hand v3 rumble 500 combo and 4 x 10 cab, for about what you'd expect to pay for the 500c only here in Aus. What's more, my wife is doing a day-long road trip to collect for me!
And the good news is Fender Rumble Club membership dues are the same in Sydney as they are in Fort Worth. NOTHING!
Welcome Rumble #804. Rumble on!

Rumblers I come to you with a situation.

So, I decided on the Rumble 500.

599.95 (As far as I can tell this is standard so good to go)

So I get a message from a guy I know and their band has a guitarist who was going to switch to bass but he decided it was not for him and he is selling his Rumble 200 which was used only for his personal practice for about 2 months before he decided in no way was he going to be cool and play bass.

He is offering it to me for 300. It's damned near brand spanking new and well, that 500 is calling my name but this is half the price.

Am I basically cutting one of my balls off and going with "half an amp" with such a move?

Is that a great bargain and worthwhile or will I just curse the day I made the choice and wish I had spent the 600?

If we were talking list vs list it is a no brainer as 600 is not far off from 450 considering just how amazing that jump from 200 to 500 is but in this case we would be talking twice the price.

Guide me. What would you think and the pros and cons of it?

Basically do you think that is a value worth considering and then telling my wife of what a wonderful bargain I found or to tell her to not expect more for her birthday than maybe a tasty bass lick. (Which she should love more because that bass lick is better than shoes, dammit!)

Thank you and I am baby steps away from joining the club by figure worth asking the masters what they think.

You guys are the ones Victor Wooten goes to for tips so good enough for Wooten is good enough for me.

That's a good deal on the 200c. What kind of music / group are you playing?

WOOT! :woot: @rodl2005 will be able to hear you down on Tasmania with that rig!
:bassist: Rumbles Rock! :bassist:
I s'pose if I climbed Mt Ossa (our highest) I might hear him ON Tasmania :woot:;)
But. ...even in my humble abode I'd probly go close. :hyper:

I was lazy yesterday and the jazz lounge gig I had that I normally take my Super Bassman and 115 Bassman Pro Neo cab too.... got the Rumble 500C treatment.
Worked a treat. Acoustic upright for half and a Shortie CIJ Mustang for half. .. with a Boss splitter b4 the amp. .
Upright sounded massive!
YOOOOOOOOJ! YOOOOJ I tell you! ;)

I'm guessing Derek is, he's actually using it. I'm never right, ask my wife.:)

Pics, or it don't happen, right?

Ps. Don't think I'd ever risk playing it in this orientation, but it looks pretty cool, lol

Though seriously, I think it just might actually stay there the way the legs sit in so deep. I prefer the cab vertical like this.

It's like the rock-climbing Rumble. Love it. Probably not a long term solution tho.
Sorry, I keep looking at this photo and it is SO WRONG it makes me laugh. I love it.

View attachment 1164620 LOOK WHAT WAS WAITING FOR ME WHEN I GOT HOME! Here's a photo for those of you who have never seen a Rumble 200 still inside the box. Didn't stay in there too long, though. Now I have a Rumble 75 AND a Rumble 200. I guess that makes me a Double Rumbler.

Congrats! You're gonna' like that one!

These v3 Rumbles are beautiful designed amps. Various tonal options, they're very light and easy to transport or move around and they have a nice classic but present day look. I have a 100 and use it as My at home practice amp do to the fact that it just wasn't getting it done as my band amp. It was like you can hear it but couldn't feel the bass. I got a Fender bassman and the bass that you can feel and hear showed up. Considering how light duty they are built compared to a beefed up bassman, I think that has a lot to do with the presence of the bass sound/feel itself.

7 months on with my 500c report: I've played over a dozen gigs from street corners to rock clubs with concert PAs. I keep thinking, "well this is the show where I regret not getting a 112 or 115 to 'beef it up' " but every time the mix is great, the sound man gives me a thumbs up with grin, and the rest of the band hears me loud and clear. I did invest in a urethane amp wedge, keeps the tone closer to my ears than my knees. Other than that I'm enjoying travelling light and sounding heavy. Rumble on...Rumble on.
