View attachment 2863522 Hello all.

Ampeg guy here who chose to add the Fender Rumble 40 combo amp to my collection.

The light weight is major along with 40 watts and a 10” along with the fact you can pop a Basslite S2010 in along with a few other tweaks and really maximize what already is beyond solid.

No, I don’t need to upgrade it and yes I firmly understand that putting a $90 MSRP speaker into a $199 combo would make zero sense to most as they’d simply buy a bigger combo or spend $300 plus on something used.

I like New when it comes to lower priced gear because I don’t trust how others may have abused it which is why I won’t buy GC demo units.

Anyhow, I get the fact that for the dollars invested to upgrade this does not change it from what it is albeit just a little better. I’m good with that.

Now that’s out of the way before anyone tells me upgrading isn’t worth it. (Though @AstroSonic proved you can upgrade a Rumble 40 and I’m taking their lead)

Anyhow, I’ve got one of these and would gladly like a number and to perhaps take part then in discussions pertaining to.

Enclosed is photo evidence and my cat since I figure that’s as good as a watermark since nobody else owns that cat and if someone does have his twin and they play bass?

I’d be glad to meet them.

Thank you to Linnin for all the answers to questions I had on Fender stuff just as much as Jimmy has been my learning tree of Ampeg knowledge.

Rumble on.

P.S. I do love the tone of the Ampeg BA108 which is half the price but the bloody thing weighs nearly twice as much which alone made my choice to add this as a knock around/carry anywhere practice combo.
Welcome Rumbler #862. Nice cat. Rumble on!

Since this IS Rumble related, I hope it is considered relevant and does not cause me to get hissed at but I could not justify starting a new thread for this and perhaps it serves as some measure of opinion for the question of, "How loud is the Rumble 500 combo by itself?", which MANY do indeed ask.

Anyhow, so I saw a Rumble 500 for sale on Reverb with this in the description:
*******************************************************************
This amp is WAY TOO POWERFUL FOR ME. I bought it because of the weight. Only 36 pounds for 500 watts.
I used this one time at a gig. I play in a jazz style low volume trio.
I can barely turn the master volume up a notch and it will knock pictures off the wall.

********************************************************************

It made me laugh because I fully admit what I do not know and seek to gain more knowledge but even I know for a little low volume Jazz trio that you don't want to be toting a Rumble 500 in the place. JimmyM plays a low volume jazz deal with his BA108.

So this just humored me because I can only imagine the excitement to carry in his gear with one hand, plug in the beautiful and brand new Fender Rumble 500 and then the sheer horror from everyone in the place as one twitch of the knob would make pearls get clutched, ears get plugged and scrambling from everyone involved to demand this low volume jazz trio cuts the volume or else they will never be able to play there again.

Now I am not mocking nor laughing AT the guy. Not at all. So long as you can reign in the volume you can play any combo you like but it is pretty true that a Rumble 500 even on 1-1/2 is way, way, way too much for a low volume jazz trio. So just imagining the place getting blown out like it's The Who playing in 1974 when it's really just a couple of school teachers dressed like Walter White jamming out on "Autumn Leaves" over cocktail hour.

So, for those seeking in Calilfornia you can pick this one up for $450 and for anyone lurking or seeking and wanting to ask the question of just how loud one of these combos can get without the ext cab you can take his word for it that it will shake pictures off your walls and maybe get your low volume jazz trio banned from every brunch in town.

Rumble on.

I laughed at this simply because it's completely ridiculous (the ad, not the post). I practice with the Rumble 500 at my studio at low volume, and also practice at home with a small Peavey MAX 126 (10 watt, 6.5" speaker). I can set them both so that they're barely perceptible above the sound of the strings themselves. Sure, if you have the gain at 100%, one notch of the master volume in the 500 could be quite loud, but at low gains it can be very subtle. If that wasn't enough, turning down the volume on the bass also does the trick.

Yesterday, my wife was practicing violin at my studio and I joined her with my bass. I left the Rumble at my usual practicing levels (both gain and volume at 9:00). I had to turn up both of my (passive) bass pickups all the way up to hear the bass and the violin was still a bit louder.

So, while it may be a bit overkill to carry a 500 to a jazz gig, it will certainly not shake pictures off the wall and won't get you fired if you set the gain and volume low.

Agreed and I'm delighted with the performance. Good design, good tone, well designed..

But all this talk of "350 clean continuous watts in 8 ohms" is nonsense. As a stand alone unit it's a 215W combo.
How reliable is your test equipment?
How many units did you test?
What other makes of similarly rated amps did you test?
Are you just a Fender Hater trying to stir up a batch of s***?
And, lastly, what is your point.

Hi there 'ubenator' . . According to Fenders spec the Rumble 200 does (RMS values) about 93W into 8 ohms and 160W into 4, they test at 100Hz and 1 kHz. So the 200 is somewhat poetic and more by model number than power output.

I wouldn't get too excited, they say to double perceived volume (approx) an increase of power by 10dB is required, that's like going from 50W to about 500W to be twice as loud.

The Rumble 200 uses the icePower 50ASX2 amplifier module which is capable of 220W into 4 ohms.
Oh! So you're in London. Well, that explains it. You are talking Imperial watts. Whole different thing.

Took my Rumble 200c out of the house for the second time ever last night. I thought it was an audition but it turned into a rehearsal, I guess I was in before I got there, lol. They kept telling me to turn up...OK, no problem. I settled in at just past noon and that thing was rattling anything that wasn't tied down in the 16x24-ish room. Still lots of room to turn up, I do love this amp.

The Fender Rumble 200 combo is far more capable of high SPL than one might think. In general a single 15 moves a little more air than 2x10s. The conservatively rated 140 clean continuous watts are equivalent to 444 Voodoo watts if marketed by any other manufacturer except Bheringer then it would be 1,111 Bugera watts. :smug:  Rumble On!

I cannot believe this issue has been going on so long. The Audio Industry should have a standard of measurement that all manufacturers have to follow. Consumers deserve more than trying to wade through the smoke and mirrors of "our watts are more powerful than their watts".

They will have a standard as soon as the garment industry does...:)

Specifying the max RMS SPL at a given frequency would be much more useful than watts.
