Fender Rumble Club

Some updates to my Rumble 40.

Well after a few mails talking with AstroSonic - I have begun. Just to let you know I have built several of the DIY10 cabinet that have a forum here and work great. I have also discovered the Rumble 40 and the DIY10 cabinets are basically the same CF of 1.2.

So with all this new stuff in my head - I took the Rumble 40 and lined the cabinet bottom, one side and back with a medium heavy batting. I then took a 2510 speaker ( a small upgrade from the 2010) and went to work.

So far the cabinet speaks out - if has more bottom end (as I like) but the mids are cut a bit (again I prefer this more). Highs and mids are smoother and it has a more pleasing bass tone (to me at least).

I did not do the jumper connection in the back as I will only use as a stand along amp. I have ordered the tube ports and when they come in, I will let you know the results then.

Thanks AstroSonic and Rumble on.

Ladies and Gentlemen. I have been out sick for over a week and have not been as responsive with Rumble Club numbers as I like to be. I hope I have not missed anyone. I've been trying to catch up this morning, but in case I missed anyone, please reply to this post and I will get you taken care of ASAP. Thanks for you patience.

Prayers and Wishes for your speedy recovery. Thank you for taking the time to give out numbers.

Hi there 'ubenator' . . According to Fenders spec the Rumble 200 does (RMS values) about 93W into 8 ohms and 160W into 4, they test at 100Hz and 1 kHz. So the 200 is somewhat poetic and more by model number than power output.

I wouldn't get too excited, they say to double perceived volume (approx) an increase of power by 10dB is required, that's like going from 50W to about 500W to be twice as loud.

The Rumble 200 uses the icePower 50ASX2 amplifier module which is capable of 220W into 4 ohms.

Sorry about the "service manual guy" thing. I was scrolling through many pages and the topic was in my brain memory, I didn't think to use the quote link when I saw it, and I was NOT going back to look for it.

@Linnin yeah no UFO abductions or incarcerations, my dormant astronomy hobby woke up again, and my forum time went to cloudy nights and product websites. I was playing bass, not talking bass lol.

Voodoo watts are real, but not to the extreme of calling a rumble 200 300/600watts. But there is NO WAY I am working with 93/160. Maybe at 1k but certainly not at 100hz.

As a bass player, the boost in the "solidity" of the low end is more apparent than the 3db suggests, when you FEEL it. Working with 80/100 swr workinman 10 with either 110(swr), 112(yamaha wedge) or 115(swr SOB) at 100w, just when you start to really feel the bass good (at drums volume) with the 115(+internal 10), the amp goes into "hitting the rails" mode, and sounded really grindy, I loved it and still miss it (stolen).

And I have even more experience gigging swr bass 350 (stolen) at 220w with Goliath III 410 when I got too lazy to bring the SOB 115. I know where I run out of power. I have experienced it at 220 410 warped tour with no PA support outdoors (punk band, cost me possible fender/swr endorsement), and indoors no support playing 5 string metal. I didnt let the amp go to "rails" mode by defeating the limiter (on off type), but the limiter light was solid, meaning I was maxed out at swr's seemed "safe level". Most gigs in E playing punk or straight ahead rock 220/410 swr was plenty, and 200/115+112 rumble is the same type of plenty. The rumble 200/115 on top of a good 410 is a notch above the 220/410 , and a notch below the 350/410+115 rig, in my experience (swr bass350 220w8/350w4

200-220 is enough to drive 115/410 rig and be told to turn down (withvThunderbird in drop C), but then again if the cabs are efficient enough, so could 160, but at the point of "rails" breakup. The amount of volume I still had on tap at the last show and rehearsal I used it at, did not represent 160, it seemed more like 300.

But about burst power voodoo watts, mesa has done this in the tube world getting 25w out of 2xel84 "Dyna watt". Peavey always had a 50w 4xel84 amp, but they didn't advertise any burst power feature, they probably just hit the tubes really hard.

If the way fender achieves this kind of volume is by throttling back the " continuous " wattage to allow for more burst power, I am sure we are all cool with it :)

Burst is great for bass, because that initial attack hitting hard is what causes the butts to shake and heads to bob and bang.

Oh! So you're in London. Well, that explains it. You are talking Imperial watts. Whole different thing.

Which is something I should be doing more of too
But the major offender was astronomy, I was making up for a lot of lost time. I used some of the money from selling goth bird to buy a telescope that is large enough to resolve more than my 4"f10 achromat, and not risk my prized older 8" and 11" 'murican made cassegrains, that live with my other possessions such as 'murican fender basses and der Deutsche warwicks.

Same principle applies, buy Peaveys and epiphones to use now while living on the boat. $199 6" f6 Newtonian optical tube on November sale for $169, and a drive down to my former employer to buy it.

Unfortunately it has astigmatism in the secondary mirror so it is only good up to 100x or so on deep sky objects (did some nice observing in the local mountains with it, and a beach overlook on the freeway that happens to be the darkest coastal spot between orange and San Diego counties), but I need to get it fixed to give good star images, and planetary sharpness asap. Mars and Jupiter coming and Saturn as well. It is the stores own brand, they will either replace the part or the whole scope, I just have to find the time to get down there, long drive and parts are BAD traffic lol.

So I said I use a Fender Rumble100. Well, I'm buying the 200 1x15" from Sweetwater and selling my 100 - I simply don't have space for two. Our basement apartment will never appreciate the lusciousness that is the 200, but it will definitely take me further. It's only 28 pounds, 6 lbs more than the 100, for the 15" speaker. Not only is it 200W, but the added benefit of the TRS output to plug into other cabs at gigs if we need it. I saw the 1X12" 500W cab, I looked, I lusted, and expressed a bit of necessary restraint and refrained from buying it also hehe.
I've used the 100 at gigs, but you're pushing it. Clearly the 200 will do way better. Plus my low B string will probably appreciate the 15" speaker much better ... all I ever played were 15s when I was younger.
