Fender Rumble Club

Didn't notice at first look they're on a 500 AND a 500c. Since I'd be the only one to see them on my 200c, I thought I'd not bother. Now I gotta rethink that. Hmmmm. Edit: Ordered 2 sets for R40 and R200c. Should look amazing!

Hi all, since this is such a long thread I'm looking into getting a rumble 500 head. I'm on the fence because I'm trying to hear from people comparing it to the Bassman 500 head.
I own a Bassman 100T head and it's absolutely incredible but it's not quite powerful enough for my gigs and heavy enough to be a pain.
I want a piece of that vintage tone, I know I won't get it all with solid state but any comparisons would be greatly appreciated. Rumble 500 vs Bassman 500.

To me, the Rumble 500 and Bassman 500 are basically the same. The BM500 is what you get when you want the extra bells & whistles that the R500 doesn't have.

The R500 is a great value, great tone, easy carry, straight-forward working rig, but with no frills. Add to that a tube preamp with tube overdrive (both have blendable OD), deep switch (both have bright), XLR line out w/level control & pre/post EQ switch(!), tuner output, mute switch, and 2 speakon connections in a beautifully vintage, very lightweight head cabinet, and you've got the BM500. Any dialed in tonal difference is due to the deep switch or tubed preamp.

Take your pick to fit your budget/preference, or just get both! I did, and the Rumble gets the call more often simply because of the schlep factor (and I'm old). But together, they are a mighty stack !

My Bassman is my main amp. My Rumble 500 is my backup. I bought the Bassman for those advantages you stated. I don't really have a schelp factor with the head. It is 17 lbs and I only left it put it in the cart or on top of the cabs. And I'm older than you.

I hear ya, brother Dav. But it ain't the age, it's the (perceived) mileage. I don't have a cart, yet, cause the R500c is a one-hander that gives me just one trip. And I'm probably way too overprotective of that gorgeous BM500 head. It's so light it almost seems fragile, so I bolt it onto the cab when not stacking it with the R500c.

Thanks @G-Dog , I'm actually gonna go with the Bassman 500. Found a decent deal on one on ebay and couldn't pass it up. Plus I love the vintage channel and the flexibility of the overdrive channel on my 100T. I don't care about the overall size of it, just happy it's so much lighter than the 100T for gigging.

Yer very welcome there, @Mpike. You can't go wrong either way. I love 'em both!

The Fender way is the right way. Even when I am buying a left handed Fender bass, I am doing the right thing.

My wife and 2 out of our 5 kids are leftys! I've learned that they are not as right as the rest of us, but they are just as correct (if not more so, in my wife's case)! [/leftthumbsup]

Plenty of knobs about here

I find the overdrive BLEND factor to be one of THE important things that the Bassmans have over the Rumble amps. I just have the Super Bassman and a Rumble 500C, so can't really comment on the Bassman 500, except for its pre amp being the same.
I personally find the overdrive on the Bassman to be SO easy to dial in.... I use the sweepable mid freq and level in conjunction with the drive, & find HEAPS of versatility and different tones in it, with very few that are unusable.
The Rumble's drive section, to me, isn't as easy or useable... but, I use it regularly too. :eyebrow: So, take that with a grain of salt.
I dunno if other Rumblers can help me/ others to dial in a nice drive on it:help:. I certainly can, but just don't find it quite as simple as the Bassman. YMMV of course :bag:
