Fender Rumble Club

I've got a Rumble 500 combo, and I'm thinking of carrying a small back-up amp to gigs in case the Rumble amp fails.
Will it work if you plug the speaker output of another amp (assuming power/impedance suitability) into the 'extension speaker' socket on the Rumble to utilise the Rumble speaker? I can't get my head around the logic of the signal path, so any advice would be welcomed.
Short answer, No. That's an output.

So it does appear the 500 Head has been phased out. I was hoping to fetch another as a back up. Guess used is where to go, unless I go to 800 and use my 500 as the back up.

But is the 800 head too much for the Rumble cabs available right now? Seems the head is just a bit much powerwise for the cabs..... I have 2 of the V3 210 cabs.
How likely are you to run it at full power?

I bought a 112 and 210 several months ago (used, but like new, price was too good to pass up). Finally got to Christen them on a gig last night. Didn't have a chance for a fill sound check, so I kept the eq flat and used the vintage setting on a Rumble head. Not as deep (or light) as my Revsound but very nice tone - received several compliments from bass players in the audience. Gain and volume not above 9:00, and kept up with a 2 guitar band with no FOH. Played everything from 60s (Beatles, Jefferson Airplane) through current hits (Strutts). Quite impressed.

According to the (probably simplified) schematics the 500C speakers and the extension speaker output are wired directly in parallel.
Following that logic you would be sending the output of an external amp both to the 500C speakers and its power amp so you should have sound. It would most likely be not beneficial to the Rumble's amp but as a backup in case the amp failed anyway it might work.
The extension speaker output socket is mounted on one of the circuit boards so there may be additional components blocking the path to the 500C speakers in reality. The only way to know for sure is to try it yourself - but at your own risk, warranty void, etc.

You could check my mod (see my signature), it would definitely work with an external amp.

thanks eric_b. Your mod looks ideal. Also, I was thinking that once the warrenty runs out I could fit an extra jack socket between the amp and speaker with 'double pole' contacts, so when no external amp is plugged in the Rumble amp goes to the speakers, but plug in an external jack and both wires to the internal amp become disconnected.

Sure, that would work fine.

Hello fellow Rumblers!!! Well, I’ve had my 500h for a few days now and I can’t believe the tones from this amp. I love it in every way! Paired with 2x210’s is unreal! The drive is really incredible. In fact, all of the eq buttons are great in their own way. So what I’m trying to say is that I’m over the moon happy with my decision. I have only plugged it in direct and not through my sans amp or chorus(fly rig)or anything. At first impression, I might just cut that pedal out and just use a tuner!

I have a question for the group about what foot switch I should look at to be able to turn the drive off and on. I’m sure there are a thousand choices, but what are Rumble users using?

I use this:

But probably should have gotten this:

Here is my new Rumble beast. I've been using the 500C + the 210 cab for two tours and studio work for a time, but when a monosynth (Arturia Minibrute, for intros, ambience and quiet passages) made its way onto the stage I needed to figure out a way to get good sound while keeping a nice look and getting sounds from both bass and synth. Many places I play, I don't trust the PA (if there is one), monitors or the technician...
Solution, another 500C.
I added rubber feet on the sides and moved the Fender logos for appearance.
My signal chain is Bass-Tuner-Amp1 (clean tone) - Effect out - pedal board (distortion/chorus/flanger) - Amp 2 + cab. I also route my synth into a Boss LS1 where I can mix and blend the signal with my bass tone into Amp 2 + cab.
This way, I have one 210 combo for clean tone, and basically a 500 W 4x10 for effect bass (my main sound) that doubles as a synth amp with great headroom and volume.
No issues so far, I think it will be a useful package for the upcoming 4-week tour in May, incl Desertfest London.
Fingers crossed.

Homna, ... homina, ... homina . . . . drool

Now, THAT is one humongous Rumble Stack!!! I've been fantasizing about something like that for quite some time. A 610, 850 watt beast! :woot: Just outstanding, Danne!

It bears more prominent display!
