Vertical 4 x 10 stacks are awesome!Add a 2x10 extension for a 4x10 verticle stack.
Yeah! Let's help bankrupt/deafen him!Vertical 4 x 10 stacks are awesome!
He'd have to swap the R200 combo he has now for a R500 combo though and then get a 2 x 10 extension.
The R200 combo he has is a 15".
OP, you could do a 115 cab with the combo you already have. Sounds like you're playing pretty loud though and 200 watts into two 15s might not cut it.
The R800 head into two 4 x 10s might be your best bet.

If you're playing at eardrum bursting volumes, 140W(without extension speaker)prolly won't cut it. Either add a cab of whatever configuration you like(1x15, 2x10, 4x10)or take the 200c back and get something bigger.
For what I do, the 200c-with 1x12 cab[sometimes]is more than enough. Vintage button 'in' will add some oomph but prolly not enough for your purpose. BTW, ya might want to get used to saying "huh?"![]()
And she plays and sound every bit as good as she looks. Leo hit a home run with this puppy. That is one beautiful bass!
Hey guys,
I purchased the Fender Rumble 200 a few days ago and just tried it out with my band (loud punk, think Social Distortion meets Rancid)... and man... I could barely hear that thing. It was embarrassing. It is a great sounding amp but it seems I could only use it for low volume or PA supported situations.
I tried a HPF, getting it off the ground, etc to no avail. It just doesn’t have that oomph I’m used to (I’ve been using a borrowed GK Backline 600 up to this point with cheap-ish Ampeg cabs).
What would get me to a place where I actually have some headroom instead of having to crank that thing all the way? An extension cab? A 500 combo? Should I just go a different route altogether?
Thanks in advance.
A lot of talk about volume levels lately! Very interesting. I think when you get down to it, its personal preference. It's like saying you shouldnt drink whiskey and smoke cigars. We know it's bad for you, and some choose to do it anyway- But I'm not gonna be the one to tell you not to!LOL, I've been there for years. Played in a SKA band back in the early 80s and we played way too damned loud. Got tinnitus in my left ear pretty bad. Went to an ear doc a couple of years ago and he said, considering I'm in my 50s, my hearing isn't as bad as I thought it would be (also worked in the trades for 20 years which did not help). I was surprised.
I know young people won't listen to the sage advice of us mature people but you hit the nail on the head here. Or should I say "hear?"

Earplugs are your friend.... getting a 500 but in all honesty a 200 would be plenty. I dont think I want to sign up with any band in my future that wants to melt faces and rattle bones.![]()
Ironically, a solid state B15 was my first amp, when I was 20. Only piece of bass gear I regret selling. An Ampeg B15 is an old persons amp.
Never leave home (for a gig) without them!Earplugs are your friend.![]()
They woulda been "back in the day". Now, hearing aids.Earplugs are your friend.![]()
Unnecessary at our levels.Never leave home (for a gig) without them!
Lessee. I have 2 Rumbles(200c, 40) + a rumble cab(112). I'm 74 next month. Hmmmmm.A lot of talk about volume levels lately! Very interesting. I think when you get down to it, its personal preference. I have really grown accustomed to low volume playing. A lot of winery and brewery gigs, where wait staff needs to talk to patrons and guests want to talk to each other. I talk about getting a 500 but in all honesty a 200 would be plenty. I dont think I want to sign up with any band in my future that wants to melt faces and rattle bones.
So, Rumbles are light and vintage-styled. Now I see they are getting used by all these low volume players. Is Rumble an old person's amp???![]()

Two words: cryogenic chamber. Now, come on, Stumbo! Not with the "sir" again!!Do they make those hot & cold packs in full-body, extra tall, sizes???
Actually it's a bittersweet, healing (I hope) kinda achiness, remembering the good times that caused it.
Massage!?!?!Hey, Mrs. Dog ... . .

).What?!Yeah! Let's help bankrupt/deafen him!![]()
I never used earplugs and still don’t. I played in a couple very loud bands, listened to my car stereo (in high school) at insane levels and have the volume nearly at max level when listening to music through earbuds. However, I can still have music on at low levels and hear perfectly fine. I just like it loud, I guess. And since I posted this, I will wake up tomorrow with 50% hearing loss.Earplugs are your friend.![]()
