View attachment 3474231 HEAD CASE 'DOUBLE' STRAP CLASP FAILURE!
Yesterday, while placing the carrying strap over my head, the metal hook/clasp connecting the strap to the 500 head's soft case just failed under the weight of the head! Amp fell to the floor but was OK after checking it. I tied that strap's end to the case in a knot and carried on.
After the gig, placing the strap over my head again, guess what happened?
Yep. The other strap end's hook/clasp failed. Amp went to the floor again! Seems OK though.
I can't fathom how this occurred. Never been abused. Has been just sitting a closet for close to a year.
Has this happened to anybody else?
Beware!
Oooooops... I meant to quote this post above. Sorry

Rumblers in person!
Here are some pics of me and @GonePlaid at our lunch adventure today.
Great to see you as always, Mike!

Unfortunate, but easy to fix. Replacement hooks are available from most leatherworking stores.

That photo screams of cheap metal failing...there's no other reason for that to happen.

I think you'd be well to replace those hooks with some that you source yourself from a place like ACE Hardware. And I suggest massively overkilling on the rated strength of the replacement hooks.

Very cool! Thanks, plav.

A TRS on the bass!! Splitting the two pickups, no less! That is tre chic!

Speaking of Chris Squire tones, what do you think of preset #58 "Roundabout" on the Studio? I've tried it a few times and like it quite a bit.
.
Not crazy about that preset. The Ric itself has that baked in tone already. I just use a flat setting on the Rumble for the neck pickup and the SVT preset for the bridge with the default settings. Minor tone adjustments on the guitar and I can get close enough. One of these days I’ll have to record myself and post it here...

Both. The EB Cobalt flats have more 'punch' and mids than the Chromes( I don't like the feel of rounds). All 5 of my basses have flats.2 TBirds have EB Cobalt Flats, Squire VM Jag has Chromes, Les Paul 5er has 1/2 rounds, Ibanez semi-hollow has D'A. Tapes. EB's have plenty of bottom with all the mids and highs you wanna EQ in, Chromes are mellower, 1/2 rounds are sorta in between, tapes are very mellow-give me an upright bass sound outta the Ibby.(different strings on both 'Birds at time of pic)View attachment 3473198
Both 'Birds with EB Cobalt flats. Yes, that's a custom PG on the 4 string.

Thanks! Big big help!

I prefer to scoop the low mids and boost the high mids. A pretty standard rock bass tone and Im playing with a pick. Thats one big reason I prefer the Rumble to the Ampeg BA amps, the high mid control and the contour switch. Im not sure its an "SVT" tone but it does sound very SVT-like with the pedal. This is just playing around in store. Of course those settings will change a bit when Im actually in a mix with a band.
Cool. Again, I'm not criticizing at all. It's interesting to see how people get the tone they want. My two main basses (G&L MJ-4 and G&L L2000) couldn't be more different in tone. I started with the L2k and it's EQed differently from the MJ-4. But when you get that tone you have in your head, it inspires your playing. At least it does for me. I've also learned to respect what tones each bass to offer. You can't all tones out of just one bass.

Found out tonight that tomorrow nights venue is small enuff to use the TBird and the R40 w/o pushing it. Easier set-up/teardown. Yay!
Then for Sunday I think I'll use the EpiBird 5er*>R200c/R112. This gig is outside at the Stuart, FL, H-D dealer, noon to 4[weather allowing].
*prolly too hot/humid to take the 67 TBird-it likes the AC.

So I basically got a free Rumble 210 cab... it was a combo that wouldn’t power up. Fender replaced the customer’s amp and gave me instructions to destroy the amp. I have to send pictures to prove that the unit was destroyed as well as remove the serial number... but the cab was fair game to keep! Does anyone have a schematic handy that can tell me which wire is which? I’m planning on wiring a speaker jack to the harness pictured above. I’m also hoping that the two red wires from the horn on/off switch will work with this rigged setup.
I just noticed your post, you could check the link in my signature, people have done similar mods with the 500C.

I don’t dispute that, but when they exchange a faulty product, the originial one becomes theirs, and I quite see that they would want to make it impossible to resell it, as even in a refurbished state, it might not be a product that passes quality or safety standards, and might entail all sorts of liability. They would certainly not want unqualified persons poking around inside the amp, trying to convert it into a cab, possibly harming themselves doing so.

What happens to a product that’s destroyed, is another matter. A lot seems to hinge on what is meant by the word «destroy». I actually don’t think it means burying it in a landfill, or something like that (although it certainly might have meant that in the past), but rather rendering the product unusable. What happens to usable or recyclable parts and materials is difficult to say without detailed knowledge of Fender’s service procedures.

I don't think companies can afford an Atari scandal nowadays...

This may be a solution posted recently...

A rather compulsory business strategy. Using the 500C without the amp as a cab was my suggestion as well.

So what does Fender think of all the mods that have been made to their (bass)guitars over all these decades? From simply replacing pickups, pickguards, electronics, necks to the more extreme custom paint jobs, relicing, drilling holes to remove weight?

That’s probably true. Landfills are a very outdated and wasteful form of waste disposal anyway, and I doubt that a company like Fender would use it. That does not automatically mean that they handle unusable equipment in an environmentally responsible way, though, but we have no way of knowing.

The replacement of parts, as well as paint and relic jobs on instruments, is unproblematic. All parts of a bass are user-replaceable, and the worst thing that can happen is that you void your warranty, unless you count the shock and horror of some of the mods we’ve all seen on Craigslist and the like. :)

Amps are very different, as tinkering with the insides of an amp potentially exposes you to dangerous voltage levels. Fender can’t stop you from doing this with your own equipment, but they do put a stern warning on the back of their amps. Basically, if you try it, you’re on your own, and Fender wash their hands of the matter. When it comes to equipment returned for service or repair, of course Fender will want to make sure that faulty units do not somehow make make their way back into the hands of consumers, and rendering them unusable is a way of doing this. Hopefully, it’s done in an environmentally responsible way.
