Fender Rumble Club

Well, I was gonna use both 410’s at tonight’s gig, but after some bad McDonald’s this afternoon I’m looking at taking as little as possible to the show (and hoping I make it through it without puking on the stage!!).

So, 500h and single 410 it is. Time to make the hour-long drive and get loaded (in)!!
You’re a brave man. I gave up on McD’s years ago after a similar experience.

Yeah, every couple years I get impatient and decide to go for it, usually with similar results. I think this time may have me swearing off fast food!!

That said, a quick energy drink and a now empty stomach, and I’m ready to rock!!

Hi. After using the club to make a wise choice, I'm at last uploading my Rumble pics! 2 Rumble 100s for mono bass (effects send/return) and stereo organ. Brilliant for both! And the boxes can be made into great travel cases/ stands (for keys..loses about 20hz from the bottom..good to make space for bass). Also DPDT switch for stereo overdrive. Happy man!

To be honest, as just a bass player I have no idea what you are talking about. But if the Rumbles sound good and make you happy, then I am 100% happy for you. Rumble On! :hyper:

Hey OldFunBass. Ignore the last bit.. the two stacked 100s with send return are my bass rig. (well often just the one amp). Nice and flexible and will always have a PA for bigger gigs in Canberra.

And to be honest my original post was quite incoherent...
Put simply: I have two Rumble 100 v3s.
1. For bass, I plug one into the other via effects loop and it sounds punchy and full. (I play funk: vintage,(bright), pretty flat eq)
2. For keys, I run in stereo (leslie effects etc.) and put the amps on their cardboard cases. When you do this you lose a lot of bottom. This is good if you are playing keys in a band because you can leave more space for the bass guitar. The cases are just upside down boxes with holes for the handles, but the original cardboard is tough as old boots. A short job with a knife and some gaffa. The two 100s are great for both screaming organ and electric piano. (I play Beefhearty stuff: vintage, bass 9oclock, lm flat, hm & treble 1oclock)
3. I wired up an old footswitch with a DoublePoleDoubleThrow switch with two leads coming out so I can turn the overdrive on and off both amps at the same time.
4. The orange acoustic cloth just went on over the Fender sparkly. I couldn't tell the difference with my ageing ears. In case the next owner wants the original look, although I can't imagine a better solution for my needs, so I'm planning on keeping them forever.
Still enjoying my lovely Rumbles after two years.

Do you have a photo of the cardboard stands you made? Interesting idea...!

Ok, now I think I understand. Sounds like an ingenious use of the two amps to get the sound you need. Way to think "outside the box" (subtle reference to your amp stands there). ;)

Played a outdoor music fest with my 2x100c stack last night. Played without PA line, (I must admit; I was nervous)- but it sounded so freaking good! This rig is a formidable beast! Vintage on, gain @ 11, master and EQ @ noon. I only needed about 6/10 on my bass guitar volume though, it was so loud. Kept up with drums, fender tube, and pa quite well.

I asked the sound guy (also a bass player) if it sounded as good out there as it did on stage. He said it sounds “soooo good! Big and punchy, in every register.” He went on to talk about guys who have giant rigs that don’t necessarily sound that great, and how this little rig was just perfect for what I was doing.

Later I met a bass player for a different band. He mentioned he used the 100 as well, how much he liked it. He said he was thinking about a 500, but was very impressed with the 2x100. I Caught his set, and the 100 with PA sounded fantastic, keeping up with guitar, keys, vox, drums and 2nd percussion.

Everyone was baffled by the weight. ;)

Those 100c’s are no joke!!

Here they are. Rumble boxes short side for front and back. Rest cut to fit. High density exp polystyrene from fridge packing to add an angle. Holes for handles. Lots of tape. Second hand purple sheets stuck with spray glue. Add a few pounds to the weight though. And no good as stands for bass. The other problem is they look like comfy seats to some. But keep the Rumbles dry and shiny.

2 by 100 roolz!

Did the outside open mic/jam gig today. Took the 200c[G-9, OD-off, B10, LM-2, HM-2, Tr-12, V-12]and my(active) Les Paul 5er[V-5.5], neck pup only. Sounded really amazing. I think I'll use that rig for this gig from now on. BTW, "feels like" temp 105, IDK the humidity but sweat my @$$ off.

OK Rumblers I want to address this 'OD as mute' buzz.
Are you fellas saying if you switch to the OD channel while the dials are zeroed you won't get any speaker pop if you unplug your bass?!
How about hum if touching the tip of the instrument lead?
I'm not trying it myself because the overdrive is sah-weet! (I use both).

Yup.

Just curious has anyone use rumble cabinets with an aguilar Tonehammer head? How do they pair together? Did the rumble add much of a different colour to the amp, or do they pair well together?

Did u feel the sound was limited in any way as compared to using a more expensive cabinet like Aguilar or Mesa with the head?

I don’t want to spend a lot but I really dig the clean punchy sound of the Aguilar head, but then getting another Aguilar cab the cost really adds up. So would going for a cheaper alternative like a rumble be limiting in anyway? Would I not be getting the full clarity and potential in the sound?

If I had a choice, I would bypass both Aguilar and Fender and get a Barefaced cab. I’ve found them to actually be cheaper than the Aguilar heads but from what everyone and their mother says, you’ll never need a different cab.

I guess it all depends on your preference though... do you want matching head and cabs? Do you need to watch your spending? What sound are you really wanting to obtain?

The answer lies in those questions somewhere. I’m guessing even if you went the Fender Rumble route you’d always wonder if you should have gone the Aguilar route instead, and vice versus.

I smell GAS creeping in. :)

Hmm. Hadn't tried that. Never use OD. Want clean.
