Nice job and I think I prefer the vintage knobs on the amp!

BTW, is that stack the the 4x10 over the 1x15 cabinet?

Nice demo and review. I'm glad your English is far better than my Spanish. Comprendo mucho, pero hablo muy poco.

I really dig what you did with the knobs. Although I personally prefer the vintage almond knobs against black, that is a really nice mod that goes with your overall look really nicely.

Well, my Rumble 500 combo came in today. Unfortunately, it was either damaged in shipping or there's a defect. I flipped on the power, and a light crackling can be heard from the speakers, and the overdrive light blinks a little bit, even though the overdrive isn't on. The crackling gradually gets louder with the volume up, and can be heard while playing. And, it's noticeable with the volume completely off and nothing plugged in. I called ZZounds and they will do an exchange, however, they don't have any more in stock but expect to get some "any time now". I now have to wait a day or two for their returns department to get back to me. Pretty upset about that, it took 3 weeks to get it, now I have no idea how long I have to wait for another one. I may just see if there's one locally or another e-retailer that has one in stock.

I can say that I was very pleased with the tone, despite the crackling noise, but it's pointless to even bother with it right now.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. These things do happen!

Here's the box damage:

But I took a look at the amp before I signed off on it, there was no visible damage, in fact not a mark on it. The tear in the box is around where the back left corner of the amp was, not quite mid-way up. I un-boxed it, checked everything that I could get at to make sure nothing was broken, speakers look brand new, it really looks like I took it right out of the factory.

Now, here's the weird part. On a whim, I decided to fire it up again, and was going to take a cell phone vid, just in case I needed a little extra proof for Fed Ex or ZZounds. Sure enough, the crackle starts as soon as I flip the switch, but after about a minute it stops. I wait for it, even push in the overdrive button a couple of times, and it's just gone. So, I play it for a bit, even plugged in the headphones at one point, and so far it's working fine. After about 20 minutes of playing it, I turned it off and I'm going to let it sit for a while so the next time I turn it on it's nice and cool, and see what happens then. It's all really weird.

I had a similar issue with a fender item. Call or email them and ask. My guess is they'll tell you to return it, but you never know.
FWIW, my 500 head had a dirty pot in the master that started to REALLY act up after a few weeks of owning it. a little deoxit fixed it better than new, so you never know.

I was thinking about that, it seemed like the problem was centered on the overdrive, since the light was flashing in time with the crackling. I wonder if the switch is dirty, or even faulty. I had pushed that switch a bunch of times, perhaps that alleviated the problem.

Yeah, a call to Fender is certainly in order. Zzounds has a 45 day return/exchange policy. I'm thinking I'll hold on to it for a week or two to see if it happens again. I turned it on a bit ago, the problem has not returned so far, and I am leaving it on with my bass plugged in to see if it comes up again. I'd really like to crank it and see if pushing the amp causes the problem, but apartment living kinda kills that idea. I'll have to wait a couple of days before I can go someplace that I can make loads of noise.

Yeah that doesn't look like it was enough to seriously damage anything if the cab itself was unscathed... I am guessing whatever is causing the crackling is either a defective part, or wasn't securely soldered in the first place... It happens. These things sometimes slip through QC. Sounds like ZZSounds is trying to do you right though.

Here's hoping you can get your hands on a good one soon. You should really like the flexibility of tone and the power this thing puts out... Pretty awesome package for the price point and weight...

You say you pushed the OD switch on / off a bunch, turned it back on and the problem went away at least temporarily? Sounds like either a bad switch, or maybe junk in the switch (excess plastic slag from casting) that got into the switch causing a faulty connection / break...

I would test out ever single feature of that combo I could before your return period is up. You don't happen to have a on / off footswitch for the OD do you? XLR it out to a mixer if you can test that out, and if you have access to an 8 ohm cab, test out the extension cab jack... I am wondering if you just suffered that trans pacific switch crap... I.E. junk from production, or somehow in shipping in that poor switch...

Thanks Dave!

I tested all of the amp controls, the extension cab jack, headphone and aux jacks, and they all work great. I'll have to wait to test the rest, I was planning on picking up a footswitch for the OD at some point, so I'll do that over the weekend.

I have to say, just at low volumes this amp sounds fantastic. Really easy to dial in great tone, loads of options as well. Looking forward to cranking it.

The amp was exposed to very cold and humidity environment for long time before you take it inside your home.If you instantly fire it up,the drastic change of temperature create a thin layer of moisture upon electronic components and switches.Do you let the amp to catch home temp before start it up?This is the reason that the problem not exist anymore.

I have to say about the Rumble 500 V3 Combo......... this thing is LOUD.
My room is on the 4th floor of the building and my brother told me that he can hear me playing from the ground level.
Meanwhile I was playing with a very reasonable room volume just practicing. I thought that I was not disturbing my neighbours.
The 500w combo has TONS OF BASS. Definitely not a bedroom amp...
So I guess I'll be going back to my 70w GK Backline for home use.

I think I won't ever need an expansion cabinet since there are only small sized venues in my area.

The amp responds well to active and passive basses. It does not have the most crystal clear sound that there is out there, but the sound is sweet warm and full.

I got a cheap footswitch with it

Works like a charm, no need to spend more money for the fender switch unless you are a die-hard fan.

I got the Fender footswitch, the heavy one, and honestly, it's far heavier built than I expected. I must have gotten a great deal on it because I paid less than $20.00 USD shipped for mine from Musiciansfriend.com, current price is around $33.00. Good switch, but that's kind of a steep price for it.
