Using the USB out into a DAW is certainly simpler, since you don't have route through an external audio interface. Additionally, this eliminates a digital-to-analog conversion of the signal, then another analog-to-digital conversion going back in via the audio interface. Having said this, as long as you're using a reasonable audio interface, and you're setting your levels appropriately, I don't expect you'll hear an appreciable difference between the two methods. The Rumble Stage 800 has USB output and XLR pre/post output. I usually use the XLR post out (on my old Line 6 amp) to record basslines to my DAW via USB mixer. Has anyone here used the USB output to record tracks with? How does to it compare to XLR out?
So, I usually use USB. However, I have had occasional issues with the USB interface glitching. The incoming signal will suddenly start sounding about a half second behind. It's not a latency issue. I think it has to do with USB bus congestion. I do what I can to prevent it (plug directly into USB port on computer; no USB hub; make sure the sampling rates match; proper I/O buffer settings, etc.), but I still have problems with USB from to time. I do on my HX Stomp, too.
If I can't get my tracking done without glitches using USB, I will switch to running XLR out into my audio interface. And, as I said, there's not a significant difference. It's just more of a pain to setup; especially if you're recording the bass in stereo. I don't want to have to connect two mic cables. Color me lazy.

FYI: My DAW config... MacBook Pro (Mid 2015), Logic Pro X 10.4.7, Behringer UMC404HD audio interface, Core Audio USB driver for UMC and Rumble 800, Line 6 USB driver for HX Stomp.
