Fender Rumble Club

What did you think? What was the EQ?
(from "memory")[200c]G-9, B-10, LM-2, HM-1, T-11, V-12. OD as mute. Fairly large semi-outside venue.
Rumblers...we are everywhere. I did a gig last night -- four bands. Several of the other bands shared some gear. The upshot is, all bass amps used were Rumbles. I need to put some stickers on mine to make sure I can tell it apart!
I use those return address stickers you get from every charity that wants your money. Somewhere on the back panel. I also put them on mic cables, extension cords("hey, that belongs to the club" "really? then why does it have my name on it?"),mics, wherever.

Your technical understanding is way beyond mine, but from what I understand, your information supports the idea that the "OMG! I can't possibly get by with less than 500 watts!" is just as much nonsense as I think it is.
Agreed! It's a bit like saying, "You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day" without specifying the size of the glass or how high you are filling it.

Hello Rumblers. I’m looking at buying some used Rumble cabs, the 2x8 with neo speakers, one or two generations before current production. I see lots of good feedback on the 112 and running the 112 and 2x8 together, but little to nothing about the 2x8 on its own.

Does anyone have experience with running one or two 2x8 cabs *without the 112*, and how do the 2x8s deal with a low B string? I rarely get below D on the B string and usually have a HPF on anyway, so I suspect they’ll be fine, but it would be great to hear from someone with some experience.

Thanks.

I believe those little NEO cabs are V2, just one generation behind the current. I remember seeing them in stores and raising an eyebrow, or two, but never got passed my prejudice against Rumbles to actually try them. Remember reading very good things about them, though. Good luck in your quest!

Good idea! In my case, I use active instrument cables, and they don't pass signal at all unless they're plugged into a small box that supplies phantom power from a 9V battery, on the way to the amp. (The instrument end of the cable has a J201 FET transistor and 2 tiny 1/8W resistors soldered into the connector.) I wrap each end of the cable just at the connector with about 4 inches of colored heat-shrink tubing so I can tell them apart from regular cables. Anyone who tries it without the phantom power will figure it's just a bad cable and won't want to steal it. It's the same idea that studios use in replacing standard TRS headphone plugs with XLRs, knowing that most people won't steal them figuring that they can't be used at home. Here's a photo of the (messy) guts of one under construction, with two versions of the phantom power box. The unpainted one has a kill switch and LED indicator for quiet instrument changes and is the first thing on my small pedal board.

Just found this club!

I will open with I am a proud owner of a Rumble 100 V3. Nice little amp and a joy to toss in the back seat of the car.

My first complaint is the main volume pot is loose. It's not too much of a bother, but it doesn't have that little bit or resistance the other pots have. Sometimes the vibrations will walk it around. I would like to find a replacement.

The other complaint is I think it might be loosing power. My groups has 2 guitars, drums, and keys. It seems to be struggling to keep up and I have it all the way up to 11. I start to get speaker farts if a crank the bass past noon at those levels. I have not figured out if this is just volume creep with the band.

I was thinking of buying something a little bigger (200W maybe), but someone told me about putting in an eminence 2012. Anyone did this? Or do I just need more power?

@TexasEdition
Typical thought process is double the wattage of your guitarist. It’s easy to turn down but pushing any amp to 11 for a whole night is a recipe for clipping and amp failure at some point. Get a Rumble 500 and be done with it. Should get it done easily. If needed get the ext cab. I have the Stage 800 with the 210 ext cab. I play with 2 guitarists as well and a heavy handed drummer. My rig never even breaks a sweat and I rarely go pass 12 o’clock volume wise.

@GonePlaid simply uses two 100s chained together... I think that’s worth a shot.

That would be @alanloomis1980 who uses two R100c chained together. GonePlaid uses a R200c usually alone (at 140 watts), but occasionally with a 112 extension for the full 200. He has often said he thinks he could get along with a single R100c with the occasional second R100c chained on.

@TexasEdition, I think you've got classic band volume creep and the chances of that changing varies mostly only with personnel changes. You could get the R200c and chain it to the R100c and hope that's enough, or get the R500c and be sure.

For the loose volume pot see an Authorized Fender Service Center, especially if it's still under warranty. If not, at least you get a price tag on the annoyance.

Meanwhile, show a pic of your Rumble and join The Club! And ...

Rumble On!

I use 2x100 combos for blues trio, drum set and Marshall tubes. If I was up against 2 guitars and keys too, I’d get a 500 and call it a day

Here’s the thread on speaker replacement. I think someone here did it recently too, they may chime in. IMO it seemed like you will only squeeze a few more dBs out of it so I decided to skip the upgrade and get a bigger amp down the line

Yeah, I mean I suppose that's actually "do-able". But I'm not really one to start butchering up a perfectly good unit to add in some aftermarket mod that may or may not end up looking like poo. You know? And at the end of the day, like I said, I'm not gigging. It's literally just me in my little guitar room plunking some strings and reminiscing about the old days when I was younger, cooler and a much, much better player. So it's not a huge deal. The 150 as is does way more than my little guitar room needs, or my neighbors probably care to listen to. :roflmao:
WHAT? My neighbors open their windows whenever I practice. LOLOLOL

@jmon
I see you’re already aware of the Global EQ that has some preset curves to help deal with a room.

Along with Droop’s helpful post above, you also have a couple of 7 band eq’s and a parametric mid eq you can use in your effects group.
Outdoor situations and no PA
In some areas it still is 1980
Please let me know right away if you find a place where it's still 1967. I want to go there immediately!!!!!!!!

Hmmm. Might be. Or they're so used to being deafened that they feel cheated if they can still hear after listening to a band. Or those 1000W stereos in cars.
In my case, at least, I was playing a '66 EB-3, Mudbucker only, into that Bassman so there may not have been a lotta clarity, but you could feel the bass.
Metoo. EB0, 150W Head, 2x15 & 6x10. Usually on 10. Haha

Well, I did have a 'blue line' SVT/810 rig for a coupla years. Honestly wasn't all that impressed, but that's what "everybody" had so I joined the crowd. Happy to have sold it to some unsuspecting schmu...., er, younger person.

I finally got around to building a footswitch for my R500 head... I'll probably paint it or bedliner it or whatever here in a bit. It'll be good to play with the OD on the head a bit more, but from just noodling with it now I still don't like the tone on it that much, or of the amp overall. Just seems... Idk. Very mid scooped and not in a good way.

I'm going to try driving the power stage with my pedal board pre and see if that helps any.

Have You tried "rumble flat" EQing? Must be found in the thread somewhere, basically a mild low mid/high mid boost and a bit of treble down.
