Fender Rumble Club

... ... , I should have realized it could do 4 of the 410s.

Now to contemplate whether it is worth doing or if there's a better set up that could be had for the same amount of cheddar. Using the prices of some of the big name retailers, looks like I could get this done for ~$2200. An intriguing possibility.

Certainly, four 410s will get you the maximum SPL. But you can come awfully close with four 210s and save ~$400 from the 410s! PLUS, you can also save ~94 lb.s of load in/load out weight! Not too shabby!!
.
Can't believe the sound that Stage 800 produces with 2x10's. I was worried about the low B with just 2x10, but the 800 has no problem dishing out the low notes.

Yes, indeed! Exactly the point I'm making to BCBm here, too. My Rumble 500 combo also has no probs with the low B on my three main BEAD-strung players. The current Rumble 210s are, literally, the most underrated cabs today. See my theory why here. Their power handling plus their light weight, especially for non-neo ceramic speakers(!), make the 210 The Rumble Secret Weapon! ;)
.

Hi all. I am already a Rumble member and have a few questions. I recently bought a Rumble 500C and matching 2x10 cabinet. I am interested in replacing the stock speakers with Neo's. The reason for this is trying to make an already portable setup even more portable. My practice space is several stories of nothing but stairs, any weight savings is paramount. I know the extension cab and combo are rated at 8ohms. First, are the speakers 16ohm speakers in parallel or are they 4ohm in series? Second, has anyone else replaced the speakers in their 500C and 2x10 extension cabs? Thanks for your time.

Or 2 115s and 2 210s.:)

Thanks to a previous poster's link, I now have black knobs on my Rumble 500 head. Big improvement and cost peanuts. Also replaced the teensy weensy rubber feet with big ones that allow it to sit over a handle on my cab.

Great, Marty! Please, show us a pic. Just how big are those new rubber feetses?

Still on fence. I have the rumble 500 2x10 combo in house. Am weighing it against a Markbass little vintage mark head and Traveler 2x10.

I love the volume and tones of the Fender cab and amp. Cons The DI is weak and noisy. And being post master knob is dumb. Distortion is utterly useless to me. And it weighs a bit more than MB.

But the MB cab farts out a lot with a simple 4 string and flats. I think I’d need a hpf. The head (the vintage), is REALLY nice and has a limiter. Same power as Rumble 500. DI is better. Also a lot more $$.

I didn’t get a Rumble 800 head in house. That might be cool bc it can drive 2 ohms. But I seem to be looking at a diff head. I’ve seen folks speak of modeling. The one I saw looks just like the rumble 500 combo amp section
And doesn’t mention usb or modeling. If I go that route, it’s $500 for head then I need the fender cabs.

I’m a terrible decision maker! In a perfect world, 2 of The 1x12 Combos would be sweet but I think they’d be under powered on our bigger gigs.

The rumble 500 2x10 combo is a little clunky. I love the form factor of the narrow MB and Elf’s.

A-a-an-n-nd . . . ya lost me there.

The Rumble 800 HD head does not do modeling and it has no USB. It is an analog controlled head similar to the amp in the 500 combo, but with some newer features you might like. The XLR Out is pre-Master and it is Pre-EQ/Post-EQ switch selectable. And, of course, it's higher power and can handle up to four 8 ohm speaker cabinets. The Rumble 800 HD could run your 4 ohm Elf stack* and your 8 ohm Rumble 210 cab and another 8 ohm cab to be named later, all simultaneously.

You may be confusing it (and you're not the only one) with the Rumble Stage 800 digital modeling combo, with USB, Bluetooth and wi-fi. It is the same size and shape as the 500 combo, with the same 2x10" speakers, but with a black grille instead of silver grille. And can drive up to two 8 ohm external speaker cabinets, in addition to it's internal speakers. The Rumble Stage 800 could run your 4 ohm Elf stack* or your 8 ohm Rumble 210 cab, but not both together.

*Depending on the power rating of your Elf stack you may have to keep the Master low when using that cab, especially if used alone.

Fender does not yet make a bass modeling head, though many here wish they did.

I hope this helps clarify the quoted paragraph for you. Do you have any questions? :)

Yep, that'd save another couple hundred bucks! But no more, or less, weight.

Plus one of these.

Thanks for this. I figured there were different heads I was conflating.

So the 800 head (the one like my Rumble 500)... that’s different than mine in that in CAN be switched to pre
Master for the clean out? I don’t think mine does that.

If I roll with the 800
Head, I need to grab the 2x10
Cab unless I keep the combo since it’s lighter. I like the fender cabs boom, but I don’t mind the Elfs for their mid focus. I don’t need top end.

I can safely run the 8 ohm 2x10 and my 4 ohm elf stack
Simultaneously?

Yes, the 800 head is like a souped-up 500 head, and can be switched to pre DI out, as can be clearly seen in this pic of its back panel:

But by far the cheapest and easiest solution, if the lack of this feature is the only thing you have against the 500c, is to keep it and get a small dedicated DI box with a signal through-put. That will give you the best of both worlds and save you a good chunk of change.

Concerning using the OD as a "mute" button...I've found that his works well. However, there is a loud crack if I unplug my bass while the amp is on, even with the mute button engaged. However, there is no crack if I unplug my cable from the amp while it is on, with the mute button engaged.

Have others found this, too?

John
Standard.

There's a cable that has switch in it that takes care of that loud Crack noise.

In the Rumble line there is only one 800 head and one 800 combo. They are easily confused by the 800 name, but operate quite differently as described earlier.

The XLR Out on the 800 head is always pre-Master Volume and not affected by the Master, there is no switch for this. The XLR Out on your 500 combo is always post-Master Volume and is affected by the Master, with no switch.

Do not confuse that with the pre-EQ/post-EQ switch on the 800 head only. That determines whether you send the sound of your bass (pre) or your amp (post) to the FOH. Your 500 combo does not have this switch, it is always post-EQ.

Not necessarily. You have a Rumble 210 (right?), and it can handle the 400 watts that the 800 can put out to a single 8 ohm cab. And, if your 4 ohm Elf stack can handle 400 watts, then you can get the full 800 watts by running all those cabs together. The 500 combo can be reserved for practice, or used for smaller venues, or chained from the 800 head to add another 350 watts.

Exactly what is your 4 ohm Elf stack, its model number(s)? Is it two 8 ohm cabs? Do you know its (their) power rating(s)? If the stack can't handle 400 watts continuous, then you may need another Rumble 210 for high volume.
.
... ... I can safely run the 8 ohm 2x10 and my 4 ohm elf stack Simultaneously?

Yes. But, depending on the power rating(s) of your Elf stack, you may have to keep the Master Volume low.

Hope this helps.

Hmm. I'll check on that next gig, although I generally don't unplug 'til we're done and then the amp is off.
