Some quick updates to my toanz exploration, so far my experiments have included:

-Driving power stage of my R500H with the pre-amp from my peavy. This was AWESOME and captured a lot of the tone of that amp amazingly. Nice and tight, and captured the growl from my bass fantastically.

-Driving the power stage of the R500H with my SpectraDrive. This worked out ok, sounded cleaner than the R500H's preamp and I had an easier time dialing in a good tone but it felt like it had less headroom.

- Driving the preamp on the Rumble head with the SpectraDrive and with gain at noon, bass down at 9, low mids at 10, upper mids at 3 and treble at 2 and with the bright switch on.
This sounded ok, captured the growl and muwahh of my fretless basses better than any of the other settings save the TKO preamp, still had house shaking levels of bass and it sounded killer with the low A string. So I'm looking forward to the next rehearsal to see how it does, hopefully it doesn't get all muddy once the volume starts going up. I'm eager to try these settings with 2 115 cabs.

Yeah... they match up perfectly! I've already used them together a couple of times. Sounded really good. The cover band I currently play in is loud as hell! lol.

Thank you for the very warm welcome! Dr. Riddim was an incredible influence and although our musical taste was different, my love of the bass, the funk and blues and motown (and the Beach Boys, both my parents loved them very much) definitely comes from him. I haven't played in a few years, but having to go home and figure out all the gear and helping mom and going through everything, I felt like I needed to get back into the groove myself after things settled. Picking up my P-bass with its 6 year old strings and plugging it in felt like coming home again.

Also I'll admit, no idea why he went with a dancing panda! But I felt like I had to follow in form.

So far I'm loving the R40! I knew that I had gotten the itch to play again, and anything bass gear-wise that I was inevitably keeping was going to have to stay at my parents house. The 40 seemed like a no-brainer, especially after a keyboardist friend mentioned coming over to jam after getting my setup together.

I considered maybe doing the Rumble 100 or 200 for possible gigs in the future, but I have this amp and cab (and the EB-3) waiting for me. Wish I didn't though.

Numbers are overrated! Meanwhile here is the worst picture possible of me my amp in action. Allllll the way down there in that bottom right corner. Such a cute little amp!

I finally got around to building a footswitch for my R500 head... I'll probably paint it or bedliner it or whatever here in a bit. It'll be good to play with the OD on the head a bit more, but from just noodling with it now I still don't like the tone on it that much, or of the amp overall. Just seems... Idk. Very mid scooped and not in a good way.

I'm going to try driving the power stage with my pedal board pre and see if that helps any.

At the age of that bass[indicated by the 4 position switch],that's gotta be an EB-3. Being a genuine olde phart, they'll always be EB-3s to me.

Dialing tones in on this thing has been a challenge to say the least, more so that I'm not looking for a sound that seems to be one that these amps do super well... I'll prob have a 210 or another 115 on the way before too much longer as this amp is a totally different beast running at 4ohms vs 8ohms.

1968 to be precise! Balls, walls, it'll pretty much bring down the house. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play with it through the Rumble as it's in another state, but I'm looking forward to hearing it through the various settings.

I had a 66 EB-3. Never played it(sold it ) through my R200c, but i used to shake walls playing it through my Kasino.

Sooo. I just picked up my Rumble V2 2x8 cab. I didnt notice till i got home, but theres a taped sticker on the back the says "4 Ohms". I thought these were 8 ohm cabs?

The factory stock Rumble V2 2x8 was 8 ohms, with a pair of Neo speakers! They were recommended to be paired with the Rumble V2 112 Neo cab to give a 4 ohm load to the Rumble V2 350 head. You might have found a modified one. The only way to be sure is to open it up and see.

Gee, I hate it when a question goes unanswered here, twinny. But, A, it probably annoys others here when I try to answer everything. Plus, 2, I'm not a fan of changing speakers, it seems like voodoo magic involved, and I'm too 'fraid I'll mess something up. And you wanna change just to save weight?!?

That said, I did SO wanna comment on your aforementioned 2x20 cabinet! Wow! What a monster! Yeah, I can understand wanting to save weight there. Sorry, couldn't resist. Of course, it's a typo on your matching Rumble 210 cab, which, I would speculate, doesn't come with a top handle due to possible interference with a Rumble head fitting into the magnetic foot cups there. So, what kinda handle did you put there, regular strap or recessed?

And, I would certainly hope that your phone consultants run the calcs on the internal cab dimensions to give you good matching recommendations, including port sizing. Wonder if it's detailed enough to account for the amp space in the combo? I think that's where the voodoo comes in.

Please, t-falls, advise us just how much weight you're able to save, and at what cost. You might just start a trend. Who knows? In your situation it sounds like every ounce counts! Good luck, and . . .

So here is my newest submission to this club. You’ll see the handle I installed, it is not recessed, although that is what Fender definitely should have provided as to not interfere with the magnetic system you were referring to. I will definitely look into a “ Neo “ substitute speaker to install, but after installing a top handle, I would be fine with that as well. I will post what I find out.

Ive included pics. The first is the "4ohm " sticker covering the factory 8 ohm. Second is the back of the speaker and third is the reddish/purple cone.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. I really am confused and want to make sure i can run this with my rumble V3 112 with my 4 ohm min load head without issue.

I took off the grill and one of the speakers. They are eminence Beta 8A's. Is this the stock speaker?

Yikes! It appears your Rumble 2x8 has aftermarket speakers installed and is, indeed, a 4 ohm load all by itself! No, sorry, you cannot safely run this cab with your Rumble V3 112 from your 4 ohm minimum amp. At least the previous owner who made the change had the coutesy to properly label the cab's Impedance!

I don't find anything that says the stock speakers were Eminence, much less a model commonly available to the public. When Fender uses Eminence speakers it doesn't hesitate to state it, but they are usually a special design available only to their service centers.

But, @EncoremMP, you are now member #1137 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations, and . . .

Well! Is my face red! You're absolutely right, Encore, the stock speakers were Eminence! I can only plead old-timers, as I was looking too intently for what was right in front of my face. But, alas, they were not Beta 8As.

After playing through the "modified" 4x8, unfortunately I'm going to return it.

#1, its about 4.5 lbs heavier than the original cab design with neo's.
#2, I really would like an 8ohm cab to pair with my 8ohm 112.
#3, Im not digging the tone/sound. To my layman's ears it just sounds boxy and thin with the replacement drivers .

I think I could have gotten over #1 and #2 if #3 would have been more in my wheel house.
