Fender Rumble Club

Today I got my latest order from Sweetwater... A dust cover (not in the pic)
sweetwater.jpg
and a foot switch for my new Rumble 100... I also got a sticker and a bag of candy ... I now have about 20 stickers and several tooth cavities ... I wanted an off/on switch for the amp power but found the switch works on the overdrive only.... Where I have the amp I found it hard to reach the power switch ... Stupid me for not reading all the info on the switch!... BUT .... I do find that I like having the overdrive switch so I will keep it...

Stupid me! but the box and catalog should say... FOR OVERDRIVE ONLY

But, Scooty, the footswitch is NOT always for distortion only! It depends on what amp it is plugged into as to its function; be it for reverb, vibrato, channel switching, or of course distortion (maybe others, too). What you should have read is your amp manual, which describes most of the functions of its controls and connections. See the Rumble 40/100/200/500 Manual linked at the bottom of the Rumble V3 Reviews section of the Rumble Club Wiki page.

But, what that manual doesn’t tell you is, and this is a top secret, highly classified, eyes-only Rumble Club tip(!) raise your right hand and promise not to spit, if you turn the Drive & Level knobs all the way counter-clockwise then the Overdrive on/off becomes a mute switch!!! Shhhhh, don't tell anyone else, unless you first swear them to secrecy on pain of dirty looks. For those of us already "in-the-know" this is documented near the bottom of the Rumble Talks section of the Rumble Club Wiki page. ;)

Here's the power on/off switch you wanted:

Thankfully, that footswitch has a LONG cord. Only ever used it as a mute switch.

May I join the club?

Oh, man, yeah, razzy! That is precisely what we gonna do. @razorx14, you are now member #1301 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TB Signature for instant recognition as a bassist of distinction. And checkout the Rumble Club Wiki page for all kindsa great Rumbling information.

Tell us about your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular, razo. You're bound to fit right in 'cause we got all kinds here, believe me. The one thing we all have in common, though, is that we all love to ... ...

Rumble On!

Well this is probably my tenth or eleventh rumble. I used one of the original 350s for small shows and always loved it. At some point last year I decided my rumble 200 wasn’t quite loud enough for the punk band I am in. I loved the tone so I just figured I’d buy a rumble 500 head and a couple cabs. Bought the rumble 115 brand new and got a great deal on the 210 used a few weeks later. The cabs sounded great with my pf 500 but I was missing the rumble tone. Scoured the internet and local classifieds and could not find a rumble 500. Was just about to pull the plug on an eBay listing when a semi local 800HD popped up. Snagged it right away and it came with the nifty gig bag and foot switch. Couldn’t be happier with this setup. Head and both cabs under 100lbs. Easiest load ins I’ve had. Thanks for the member number.

Yer totally welcome, razor, man. Just one small word of warning, though. That 115 cab is great for the 500s, where it can only get up to 250W toward its 300W rating. But, the 800HD could possibly put up to 400W into the 115 thus overloading its 300W rating, if you crank the 800! Please be careful there.

But, ironically, although the 210 is documented to be rated at 350W, it is the exact same drivers manufactured in the Rumble Stage 800, where they can get up to 400W! However, I believe Fender has successfully tested those speakers enough to not worry about that "overload" on paper. Whole different situation from the 115, though.

I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I haven’t pushed it very hard so far so as long as I keep it like that I’ll be ok. We don’t play stupid loud but the 200 combo wasn’t strong enough to compete with the tube stack my guitar player uses. My YBA 200-2 worked great but again it’s the Rumble tone I wanted. Everywhere I have played before had PA support so hopefully when gigs open back up here I’ll be able to use that if we have to be extra loud.

OutSTANDING, razo! I forgot to say, though, that you can add a 3rd cab to the 800HD to get the max power distribution down to 267W per cab, if they are all 8 ohms. For that matter, you could add a 3rd cab that is 4 ohm, if it can take 400W, then the 210 & 115 could each get just 200W max! Or add two more 8ohm cabs to get just 200W max to all four cabs! I tell ya, that 800HD is a very versatile head!

... ... how does the tone of the 800 stack up to the 500? ... ...

Uh, to paraphrase this question, "how does the tone of the 800HD stack up to the 350?" Or have you, razor man, had a Rumble 500 to compare it to?

I own a Rumble 500 Head and 2x Rumble 210 cabs. I was just wonder if I needed to replace or upgrade down the road, how do the tones sound to each other. Does the 800 Head sound way different from the 500 head?

The 500 and 800 are the same to my ears. I played a 500 and that’s why I wanted to buy one. My 800 sounds just like my rumble 200 did. I personally think these newer rumbles sound better than the v1 and v2 but I still loved those ones. I have considered grabbing a rumble 410 for more cab options. I love this series so might as well.

I think you’re good with the 500. I didn’t need 800 watts they stopped making the 500 and there weren’t any available to me locally. That’s how I ended up with the 800.

Aye, I love my 500. Just knowing that they discontinued it and the "what if breaks, how do i replace it" What do I replace it with? Only option now is the 800, so I was wondering how it sounded compared to the 500.

I'm with you on the 410 cab. That is what I wanted to begin with, but the 410's were out of stock when I ordered the head. So I got the 210 cab. And they only had 1 of those in stock at the time. It would be about a year before I got the 2nd 210 cab. I didn't really feel the need for the 2nd, be we had a pretty high profile show coming up and we wanted to show off a bit, so I got the 2nd cab to make my rig look bigger. Our lead guitar was bringing a head and 412 cab to the show. Which was way different for him, he normally uses a 112 Tube Combo, either a Fender or Mesa. Our singer/guitar added a second cab to his 212 combo, so I thought I'd be a big shot too and add that 2nd cab. Turns out I really like having that cab there for more sound and push the amp a little less, but mainly to get it closer to my ear vs. the back of my knees. I really LOVE the small footprint, but HUGE sound I get from the rig being stacked 210 cab on to of 210 cab. But with that said, 90% of my gigs go to my GK MB212II combo, just easier to plug and play that combo vs. head and cab setup. As we normally play packaged shows with plenty of other bands and need to get on and off the stage quickly. This way I have more time to help our drummer get set up and broke down.

With that, I can see a future of being a stage jerk with the 800 head and 2 x 410 cabs, just because. I mean, come on, I'm grinning just thinking of that. Totally not necessary, but come on- how fun would that be at your back?

As long as I don't hafta move them[or pay for them], howzabout 1xBassman 810(on its side), topped with 2x Bassman 115's* side by each? :hyper: I'll let you photoshop it.:smug:
Prolly need to have the R800 on a stand next to that since putting it on top would require a step ladder.

*my preference for 15's is showing;)
