Fender Rumble Club

Thanks so much, JakobT, G-Dog, and EatS1stBassist,

I should have mentioned that I am married, and I think the $500 Rumble 200 is all I could justify to my wife, especially since my band isn't even gigging at this point. The only way I could entertain the idea of getting a 500 is if I could sell the Peavy Mark IV and cabinet for $700 price of the Rumble 500 (or maybe as low as $500 and supplement the other $200).

I have been researching on Youtube, and many bassists have been making the Rumble 100 work even in outdoor settings. I figured the 200 would be enough, especially if it could be used in tandem with the cabinet, which I would only use in more expansive settings (due of the weight).

Another thing I like about the 200 is the 15" speaker. I thought for reggae it might have a fatter sound than the twin 10", though I'm open to correction on this. I'm not interested in anything at the high end, no interest in Chris Squire/Geddy Lee progressive rock or slapping. But if you guys think a twin 10 can be thick and heavy, let me know.

Thanks for your advice. I wish I were free to spend what I want to. However, since my wife is pushing me to buy a portable air conditioner that I don't need, maybe there's a little room for negotiation...
Of course, everything depends on circumstances - musical, financial and familial - and only you know what’s going to work for you. Best of luck in your search! :)

A. If You're seeing $700 for a R500c you need to keep shopping! The major onliners got new ones for $600. Used ones are also available for less and can be a great value.

2. I was a 15" bass speaker snob before hearing the R500c 21x10" and dropping my jaw at the the thick and heavy tone!! And the times I've connected my Bassman NEO 115 to my R500c I've not been abled to tell any difference between them.

iii. Harmony at home is job #1. If negotiations don't help, then saving up will be worth the wait.

All the best.

A. Yes, you're right; I hadn't looked at Sweetwater and zZounds. If I could pull off the Rumble 500, I'd probably keep the 15" cab, which I probably couldn't get much out of anyway. It would be nice to be offer the amp head and cab as a set for Craig's List.

2. I wish I could test the 200 vs. 500, but none of the stores near my house have both. In fact, none have the 500 at all.

iii. If she insists on the air conditioner, I'll have a little leverage on the amp. She was just looking over my shoulder and just hit me with, "You won't be playing a gig for a while."

IV. Are you a fan of Cartalk, by chance?

I noticed that too. I was wondering where I was going to store it all and how to tell my wife.

I don’t know what you’re referring to. I think you edited my post to make me look silly. Well, I'm not, I tell you. But, if you want a 21x10" rig I'd suggest a Rumble Studio 40 chained into two Rumble Stage 800s each pushing two 410 cabs! Lemme see here,1 + 2(2 + 8) = 21. Yeah, that'll do it. Ha! You'll find plenty of thick and heavy bass with that, for sure. So, there!

On another happy note my Rumble has passed the speakers test. It is definitely fine.

Maybe I was hearing things when I went straight into the amp or maybe I'm hearing things today. Today I could hear the slightest distortion on low notes (though this time consistently and made worse with more volume into the pedal) through my compressor. So I had 2 Boss pedals go on me at once I guess. Oh well, at least one of them should be covered by warranty still.

I'm still a bit confused and wondering if I'm the second person who had intermittent distortion which was fixed by opening the amp and reseating the cables inside. Today's issue didn't seem like last nights so I'm going to go ahead and say it at least helped! I'm happy everything was resolved. I'm just confused as to what exactly happened and how I fixed it.

After a lot of inquiries, searching for info, and doing research on my quest for a new stage amp, I'm leaning heavily toward the Rumble 200, even though I have a chance to get a used 500 for $300. I'm pretty sure I want that 15" in the amp combo, rather than only as an extension to the two 10s in the 500. I figure the 200 will be enough for almost all likely gigs. I will bring along the extension 15" if I need more.

finally i know what theese are for

@GonePlaid posted a message looking for opinions on the Fender American Performer series basses. I think. Lol. I’m new here as a member anyway. Been reading this thread for a long time. So here’s my take. I have purchased close to 60 guitars and basses in my 48 years of playing these things. And yes I still suck. Anyway. I went on a quest for a bass I told my wife I just HAD to have. She gave me that funny look she always does and said just do it already! You know your gonna! We’ve been married 37 years. I am the luckiest guy on the planet. Anyway. Now this quest started about 3 years ago! But I feel like you have to hold a guitar to know if it’s yours. But guitar center has effectively shut down all the mom and pop music stores in the Buffalo area, they either closed or just do lessons and band rentals now for schools. And what guitar center has on their walls, I have two GC in my area, suck! The same crap. Usually poopie. I hate having to shop there. So after 50 or so purchases of acquiring guitars and basses by holding them and “falling in love” I started trying to buy some online. I started by buying one of the first Gibson reissues of the Les Paul JR tribute. In worn ebony. Well as we all know Gibson became famous for quality control issues over the years. Guess what. Still a thing. I wanted a short scale. It was a worn ebony. I love the tone and feel of short scales. But I’m not a Hofner fan and how it feels when I hold it, just awkward for me, and most of the other short scale basses are not serious offerings. Anyway I hated the Gibson so I shipped it back. I then purchased a Gretsch G2220 Junior Jet for $300. At that price I figured it would hold me over until I found THE bass. The Gibson cost a thousand. Anyway I quickly put some deep talking Labella flat wounds on it (my choice of strings) and a new high mass bridge and I love love love this thing! It has great natural tone! A great neck. Better tuners than I’ve had in a long time and the pick ups are powerful. And it’s the walnut stain. Just gorgeous. But because it was so inexpensive it didn’t seem like a “real” bass so You know what I mean? So my quest continued. I eventually convinced my wife on a sunny Saturday afternoon summer drive to go to House of Guitars in Rochester and hour away. Ya know. Just to look. But I had done my research and had zeroed in on an American performer mustang. Well the guy put it in my hands and after just a minute or so I looked up and there must have been a tear in my eye or something cause there was my wife saying oh just get the damm thing! Did I mention how lucky I am? So I put some Labella flat wounds on it and I love this bass. It’s a beautiful sunburst. So I love MY American performer mustang. But their all different. You may not like it. Look I recently decide I “needed” a Precision. Again. Why did I let that natural finish 78’ go! Or that beautiful blue 93 jazz bass with lace sensors go! Anyway. I purchased a G&L research L-1000 blue burst bass from a small shop in Massachusetts’s a couple of months ago. They were great. It was gorgeous. But when I held it I just knew it wasn’t mine. So back it went. I also purchased the last 75th anniversary P Bass at Fender.com. About a month or so ago. I couldn’t wait for it to arrive! But for 2000 dollars it better make breakfast for me too. My wife gave me the ok fine nod. Right! She’s awesome! We can’t afford this poopie really. Anyway. I was really disappointed by that bass. I wanted to love it! So reluctantly back it went. So I’m still on my quest for MY perfect P Bass. It’s out there! And I will know it when I hold it if it’s THE one. I dunno maybe I’ve just bought them all at this point and nothing will ever live up to my expectations again because I’ve had some great basses and guitars in my life and they just don’t make em’ like they used to. But the quest continues. So as far as anyone having an opinion on the American Performer series goes? I love mine. But these things are so subjective and each bass has a character of its own, even within the same exact models and were all looking for what we want and expect in a bass and that’s very different from person to person. You will know if it’s yours when you hold it. Sorry I went off here a little. I’m in the middle of this quest so it’s all fresh in my mind!
