And as for playing music, i.e. using it as a big boom box, with some EQ it removes the boxiness. Would the 200 with a tweeter sound better? Or maybe replace the stock speaker with an Eminence as previously posted.

And it already has an Eminence speaker in it! For those who think it needs improving, though, I always recommend putting a sock, or two, in the ports before doing anything drastic. The 100 doesn't come with any internal acoustic lining, like the 200 & 500 have. So, if the socks in the ports sound good to you, then adding a bit of fiber lining inside, on about 3 walls, might be the way to go.

Just beware that any permanent modifications, no matter how small, may void the 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

I don't know what being 'persnickety' is but 'playing it close to your chest' around here means keeping things hidden or out of sight. The Mesa website lists so specs for their current products you need a science degree to make head of tail of them. :wideyed:
You might like to reappraise your opinion before AgedHorse kicks down our club door!!

Breaking in the new 800HD head tonight. So far sounds awesome. Like my Rumble 500 on steroids!

How do you guys feel about running a preamp pedal through the return jack (without the send jack) on the effects loop? Do you feel like you lose some of the rumble's magic, or can you still get a good clean rumble tone? In other words what do you think happens to the rumble's tone coloring? Oh, and is the delta comp still in play when you do this?
