Can't get enough of this 40c
One thing I did note though. In the below pic you can see I have a Zoom B1four. At home I don't use it for FX but merely as a metronome. Bit overkill for what it is, lol, but when I'm on the road I use it for headphone practice in hotel rooms. With the 40c, I plug it into the AUX port when I want a metronome.
The other day as I was working through an exercise, I noted the tone and overall volume were not "right". Thought it was just me being tired. Then on Friday I noticed the same thing. Unplugged the Zoom and the tone came back!
On the Studio 40, I'd have the metronome volume of the Zoom up at around 8-10. On the 40c I can only run it around 1-2 or it clicks too loud.
My question is, when AUXing in, does the 40c MUX the external and internal sources changing the sound? I've put the Zoom on a separate little speaker for home, but I was a little confuse initially with the 40c's output. Not an issue as there is a very simple solution, just looking to understand.
P.S. footswitch with the Drive circuit zeroed, is the ultimate practice mute! lol
P.P.S. The Squier 40th P is a new addition. Amazing instrument that I can't put down. When I got the D5, I had been looking for a P but chose the D5 over the P5. Now that I have this 40th P, with it on rounds and the D5 on TI flats, my fleet feels complete

I might have figured this out on my own and will test it later.
I'm thinking the output from the B1four is too hot (hence why I have the metronome volume turned down so low) and through the MUX it's causing too high of an overall level creating clipping in the post amp. And I hear that as a compressed, "off" tone. I'll make a B1four preset with no amps, effects or cab and see if I turn that overall volume down if the tone stays the same.
As I said, it's no biggy but is kind of a mystery (to me) I'd like to solve.
I'm glad you've got a working theory, pil, since no one else here did.
One terminology point though, per said diagram, the R40 doesn't MUX, or multiplex, the two signals. It simply adds them together. There's nothing in the R40 to select either one of the signals and exclude the other, else you might could compare tones that way.
