Fender Rumble Club

I can't tell you what's best, but I can tell you what I ended up doing after reading that thread and some of the caveats about using too much lining. When I upgraded to a Basslite, I decided to line the top and the three sides below the amp cutout, leaving the bottom and the upper half of the sides and back unlined. I'm very happy with the results - so happy that I've never actually experimented to see if it could be made better with less or more lining.

Copied your setup but used foam mattress topper. Read a thread here and a commercial user recommended it. Also implied they have done testing against acoustic foam. They still recommended the mattress topper.

Will see what it sounds like when my bass gets back from the shop. I left the driver stock for now because I don't have the cash to upgrade at the moment. I have a feeling that with the foam in place it will more than serve my purpose.

Just a reminder that all you Rumble combo owners also qualify for the TB Combo Club, too! Take a cruise over there with that link and join the fun there, too!! :woot: There are also lotsa Rumblers there.

But, you can also show off any other brand/model of bass combo amps there that you may have! And see some others' unusual combos of interest, as well. But, please play nice with the non-Rumblers there. They are entitled to their opinions, just as we all are.

have you plugged the 200 into an ext cab? Adding another 15 inch speaker really makes the 200 much louder and more powerful. It sounds way better almost like a different amp. Daisy chaining would probably be nice too, but adding an ext. cab has been more than enough volume for my purposes. I imagine a 2x10 would be awesome also View attachment 5170761

That's a beautiful strap. Where'd you get it?

Thanks for the link. I'm thinking of committing heresy and picking up a non-Rumble combo to add to my Studio 40. What piqued my interest? The new GR Bass AT Cube 350, 500 and 800 combos with a 12" speaker and carbon fiber cab. Inexpensive like a Rumble they're not.

AT Cube 350/500/800 – GRBass

Weight:
AT Cube 350: 8,4 Kg - 18,5 lbs (4 ohm; no extension cab)
AT Cube 500: 8,8 Kg - 19,4 lbs (8 ohm; can take one 8 ohm extension)
AT Cube 800: 9,6 Kg - 21,1 lbs (8 ohm; can take one 8 ohm extension)

Right now, they're really hard to find. Thomann only lists the 800 combo, with a delivery 7-9 weeks ARO.

[whisper] Well, don't tell nobodies, Maarti, but I was looking at those thangs, too! Back when some of us was spectaculatin' about a Rumble 212 cabinet, I searched da innerwebz for lightweight 212 cabs and, boy howdy, I found a 22.2 lb.s marvel in the GR Bass AT 212 Slim! :woot:

Yeah, marvelous carbon fiber spec.s, but price and availability is sumpin' else! Just over $1,000 when out of stock, but almost $2,000 when in stock!! Shoot fire! While I'm at it I might as well get a couple of the 52.6 lb.s AT 810 cabs and hit the tour circuit to try to replace my retirement nest egg. :rollno:

But then the new Fender Rumble 800 with Neo speakers came out at just 29 lb.s and a 1/4 Power Switch and I forgot all about GR Bass. :D

I bought myself a birthday present. I found an AT Cube 500 in stock in Czechia for one whole euro under 1000. I'm going to make a detailed post in the Combo Club thread, and will link it back here. But just to make sure that this post has Rumble content...the cabinets of the AT Cubes are the same basic size as my Studio 40!

I'd sell my like new 2x10 Rumble Cabinet. I never use it. And I'm into Acoustic Bass now days.

I recently bought and received a Rumble 115 v3 cab, so I guess I'm a part of the crew now. However, when I was searching for a new head, I really lucked out. Someone at GC mistakenly listed a used 500 combo as a used head unit and priced it accordingly. They reached out to admit the error and it looks like they're going to honor the original price, so I'll soon receive a combo to create my mini stack of doom for $373 after tax and shipping. Super excited!
The 115 is a bargain

A new Rumble 500 question. Amp is brand new. Settings are Gain 9, Overdrive Off, Bass 12, Low Mid 2, Hi Mid 12, Treble 9, Master 12, Horn On. I usually have the Tone rolled all the way off but turned all the way up today and heard buzzing. Buzzing increases with Treble, Hi Mid and Master. Decreases when I put my hand over the strings, even when I just touch the Tone knob. Turning Horn off and on doesn't seem to make much difference. Definitely a buzz, not strings ringing. MIM Fender P. Is this something I need to consider returning amp about or just some stupid newb thing I'm doing wrong?
Could be super sensitive treble pot on your guitar

I would hazard that this is the guitar. Have you totally grounded/shielded every cavity in the bass? My MIM JazzBass did the same. My home built with Bartolini split coil Jazz pickups and only the ground wire to the bridge underside is TOTALLY quiet. No shielding required.

I tried both the rumble 500 and the 800. I could definitely hear the upper-mids and the clarity of the 800 and I preferred that tone when playing by myself but in a band context I didn’t, not sure why. I ended up liking the GK mb210 for its tone and I bought it. But ultimately I found the same issue with GK, in a band mix, blues and roots, I just didn’t dig it. So I sold the GK and went back to a rumble 500. It’s just always got the tone im looking for in the band I’m in. When I’m practicing by myself at home, it’s always lacking a little something, but on stage it’s got the goods.

Hi, Jac! @JAC77, you are now member #1671 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

So, Jaccy, how's about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Just impulse-bought a Rumble 500 combo (10% off on Musicians Friend right now, btw). Interested to see if it lets me downsize a bit from my usual bar rig, which is a 500w head into 4-ohm 2x12 cabinet. It’s overkill, but I usually don’t have PA support, so I’m a little nervous the 2x10 combo won’t fill a room quite as nicely. But, hoping it works out!
