Fender Rumble Club

I have a Rumble 100 and have no problem dialing it in, sounds great.

I often read here on TB that Rumbles have a "baked in tone".

So, just exactly what is this "baked in tone"?

Ola, Moony! @Moondog, you are now member #1691 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Generally, all combo amps that aren't FRFR will have some kind of "baked in tone" due to EQ settings, components, circuits, speakers, cab tuning and various such things. Combo shopping is, at least partially, finding a "baked in tone" you like, or can at least live with. Every combo's "baked in tone" has fans and detractors, so it totally depends on which opinions you choose to believe. Many Rumble fans say they have a vintage tone. You can imagine what detractors say. The frequency curves posted here were met with controversy for looking scooped with EQ at all 12 o'clock, but personally I don't see the problem. I fell in love with what I heard auditioning my Rumble 500 combo over 9 years ago, not with spec.s, pictures or curves. What prompted you to get your Rumble 100, Moony? :smug:

So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

I cleaned the knobs on the 100 today and I was really surprised to find out they are hard plastic. All this time, I believed they were just old fashioned creme cupcake knobs which are of a softer, rubbery material. Fender's illusion is completely convincing. By the way, they cleaned up nicely with a little hot water and soap. The paintbrush is for getting the dust around edges. Keeps it looking new. It also works great for cleaning around tuners and pickups on guitars and basses with the strings on.

Cheers Gravedigger, that sounds like a plan. I wasn't sure how the two speaker sizes would go together. But you're right I could trade up to the 500c later if not happy. Pretty sure I'll be happy though :) Challenge is actually getting the 210 this part of the world (NZ). It's not usually in stock here.
I didn't say trade up. I said add to.
My Rumbles:
a 40
a 100
a 500 head
a 2x10 cab
I had a 25, but it died.
I'm gassing for a 200.

Quick question. Have any of you found a good way to store the power cable with the rumble 500 inside the cover? For now I’m keeping the power cable in my bass case. any good tricks? And by cover I mean the fender cover for the amp!

Sorry for the late reply, Meddy. After several great years with my R500c, and no 7ender cover available, I bought a very sturdy MDB cover, without pockets. So, then 7ender decides to offer covers! :bored:o_O Any which aways, I was already used to packing the power cord in my gig bag, with other cables, tuners, strings, batteries and things. I also sometimes just wrapped it up and stuck it under the handle of the R500c.

Oh, and BTW, using velcro cable ties is a quick, convenient, inexpensive way to secure cords & cables. And the ends of the velcro ties can stick to various fabric surfaces!

Each Rumble has its own power cord, coiled and stuck under the handle, then I add the cover(s). Also 1 or 2 extra power cords in the duffel-along with mics, mic cables, lyrics book, guitar cord(s), extension cords, stand light, and train horn.

Ok Rumbers, I need some help. I have an R40 which I love. However, I purchased some new basses that push this amp a bit too much. I don't necessarily need more volume, just more clarity and fullness. I am only playing at home, but not worried about size or cost. I am leaning towards the R800 due to the low power mode. Should I be looking at the R200? Your thoughts?
You don't need more volume....just clarity and fullness....and for at home use.? If you WANT the R800, you should get it.......

FYI: I'm playing with kickin' Big Bands in South FL ...and my Rumble 100 with an upgraded Eminence 150 watt NEO 12" speaker does a GREAT job. The replacement is detailed here on Talkbass. Compact and silly light...20.6 lbs. THAT might do the trick for you....

Hey everyone! I just fired up the brand new replacement 800 combo (not Stage) that Fender sent out as a replacement for my previous amp. This one has a sympathetic vibration, too. The first was 5th position A. this is both 5th position C and 17th position C. Am I just *that* unlucky? The first buzz came from the area around the horn, this is coming from the back. Anyone else having these issues? Vid posted to YouTube so you can check it out. Rough playing as I was holding the phone and playing hammer ons for each fret up from open G.

I am a Rumble fan, I own 3 and am happy.

Howdy, rami! That sure was short & sweet. @rami401, you are now member #1692 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Rumblers, I met rami in his thread earlier today and invited him here. He's got a V2 Rumble 350, a Rumble 100 and a Rumble 500! Yeah, 3 Rumbles should make anyone happy! :D rami, does your Rumble 100 have a 15" or 2x10" speakers (V1) or a 12" speaker (V3)?

rami, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journeys in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Thank you G-Dog, My Rumble 100 has the single 12, I have been a casual bass player 15 years. I love the lighter Rumble combos for their lighter weight, easier on my 62yo low back issues. I prefer lighter weight basses also, I can stand and play longer, otherwise I have find to find a stool/chair or sit on a combo or cab. Currently I play a Peavey Millennium BXP 5 string outfitted with Guitar Madness Alnico Bumpers.

Rumble On, Bros.

Ah! Another lightweight V3, like the 500. They are great.

I share those issues, too, and love my lightweight Rumbles for their portability almost as much as their sound!

Is that Fiesta or CAR? I can't quite tell. Sweet either way!
CAR, I couldn't believe my luck - my dream bass colour. Found the shop by accident looking for another place. To think, I actually tried it out and then left saying I'd think about it. I got half a block away before the madness left me, then rushed back and made it mine :)

Flirting with disaster, huh? Well, came to your senses in time, thank goodness. My Jazz is CAR too. Just a MIM player though.
