Fender Rumble Club

A special request!

WANTED: one 10" Rumble 210 speaker!

If anyone has a pull from their Rumble 210 cab, I am looking for one.

I just received a used Rumble 210 cab for a very reasonable price from Guitar Wreckers (Center). It has a 1 1/4" X 3/4" hole in the dust cover of one of the speakers. There was nothing mentioned in their ad copy about the speaker issue, only that it was in Good Condition (This product is completely functional and shows some signs of use. It may have surface scratches and/or dings and dents.)

They have paper dust covers, not screened dust covers, so they do dampen some of the movement of the cone. This hole causes a woofy tone from the speaker. I could repair with tissue paper and glue, but I would prefer to replace it.

Guitar Wreckers said they would give me a full refund or I can get it repaired at my expense. I did get it for an incredibly good price and I probably would have still bought it knowing the issue, but I could have planned for it.

Any tear in a speaker is NOT “good” condition. Geez.

How many layers of tissue paper would you have to use to repair it? I’ve covered model balsa wood airplanes with tissue using a glue based sizing, but they’re pretty fragile.
Usually I would do one layer on the backside and one from the front, if it were on the cone. Being on the dust cover and it uses the sealed dust cover to dampen and cool the voice coil by restricting air movement through the front of the speaker/dust cover, so the air flow is a bit more forceful. With the techniques I know and can perform, I can put one layer on the backside and two on the front. This repair isn't as strong as the original cone, but has been known to last up to a couple of years hard use.

Ok, then. @SteveAG, you are now member #1705 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

We don't require photos of your Rumble, Steve-O, (though they are encouraged) but it would have helped your application to at least mention you have a Rumble 40. I didn't notice it in your Signature at first. So, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!
.
Thanks. I’ll post some photos and bio info tomorrow.

I've never tried it on a dust cover, but front and back sure works great on a cone.

Hmmm, I’m sensing a familiar admonishment to RTFM! I haven’t even touched those three buttons between OD and gain! I’ve been pleased as punch with the sound of the bass without fiddling with knobs, and then really excited about the YYZ pedal (I still don’t sound like Geddy you’ll no doubt be surprised to hear). I haven’t tried it as a preamp direct to the FX input yet. Using the FX loop, suddenly one must buy more cables!

I still have plenty of fiddlin’ about to do with the amp.
In case you missed it, you can set both knobs in the OD section fully CCW (off) and use it as a Mute function with a button footswitch.

Just been annoying the neighbours (according to my better half) with the OD on the 200c. Sounds great with the vintage button on, but otherwise saps the bottom end too much. Maybe you could EQ it back?

PS what got me started on it was watching some JHE this week. Hey Joe was the first thing I ever played on bass. But this recording of Fanny live is awesome too. What a sound!

Awww, man! So, did he flake on a gig, a rehearsal, just that one night, or the whole band/project? Did he give notice, or just no-show? Man, that stinks. :sour:
.

Apparently he had to buy a Christmas tree. :meh:

In my book that's too much attention given to frivolity and not enough to the joy of making music. But I probably made it sound worse than it was - it was just he said he'd be around on Wed. night and wasn't in the end. It's nothing more than that - we'll try again next week.

I've been looking at signal attenuation this morning or "how to run a 350W amp in your small bedroom". Obviously there's the volume control on the bass, but it would be nice to have something more permanent to protect the windows / ears.

Found this: Signal Pad | Passive Attenuator - Electro-Harmonix

I'm sure the Helix would do simillar, albeit at the cost of DSP. Woul be nice not to have to set it up on every patch though. Perhaps I could solder a fixed resistor into a cable jack...

Women can and do rock as hard as men. Fanny were great. A current example is The Warning from Monterrey, Mexico. These three sisters are fantastic. There are a lot of full length concert videos on YT, but here are two songs, one with the drummer singing lead and one with the guitarist. I've been watching a lot of their concerts recently. Lots of yummy bass.

Rock's future is in good hands.

Check out the 2021 documentary, Fanny: The Right to Rock. A good watch!

Can't stream PBS here in France. The DVD (no Blu-ray!) is available on Amazon.fr. 40 €, delivery after Xmas. Other sellers on the Amazon Marketplace list it for 43 € to 117 €! Holy cwapola. Maybe it will show up on a streaming platform sometime. I'll wait.

I'll admit I was first drawn to them for their looks. I started watching their videos and was thrilled at how well they rocked!

Absolutely. Very good hands indeed.
I went and saw The Warning play in their home town of Monterrey, then a few nights later in Mexico City. Phenomenal shows. If you want to watch a really good liver performance concert, check out their show from Teatro Metropolitan last August. I doubt you will be disappointed.

Good deals have been popping up for me lately (people need money for Christmas?).

I came across a Rumble 210 cab to go with my Rumble 200 Had and Rumble 115 cab. It's a nice sized stack, but more importantly, it sounds phenomenal. At least, now that I fixed it! As I mentioned in my previous post on this cab, I found out why it was so cheap! It had a hole in one of the speakers dust cap. It was allowing the speaker to move too freely and was very woofy sounding. I got it from the Marietta, GA, Guitar Wrecker (Center) used and they listed it as "Good" Condition. They obviously didn't look that closely at it when they took it in.

As this design speaker uses a sealed paper dust cap, it helps dampen the movement of the speaker/voice coil (hence the woofy sound) and cool the voice coil by push the air over the voice coil when pushed hard. The VC air gap isn't sufficient for the volume of, so there is still a hole through the center of the magnet.

I did put out the word I'm looking for a single speaker, but few people change out these speakers. In the mean time, I did the tissue paper and glue repair. I do have one concern with this repair, I wasn't able to get a layer on the backside of the cap. I did build up the layers until it felt solid enough to last.

I put it all back together and now it sounds like it is supposed to. Although it is "only" 200 watts, this thing sounds BIG! It should suffice for anything I foresee ever needing for the Fender sound.

I'll be looking for a new Fender logo, to replace the broken one.

Hey all.

FYI - Here is a pretty good deal right now on a brand new new Rumble 200 V3 combo. Buy a Fender Rumble off Amazon? What the heck, why not!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HWINO88/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

$475-includes free shipping if you're a prime member.
I haven't seen a price this low on a new one in a while. Especially with free shipping.

The listing may come up with choices of amp model. Make sure you choose the right one to get the price.

I was trying to choose between getting a used 500C or a 200C. I think I might grab one these while it's on sale.

That is a great performance!

Yeah, I had to really play with the EQ when I used the OD.
