Fender Rumble Club

True story. Years ago, a friend with no background in music or electronics took a job at a stereo shop because his friend the manager needed help quickly. A week later they found out they’d sold enough Bose gear to get a free trip to Bose. Nobody else could / wanted to (yikes!) go, so a week later, off Will went. After the grand tour, the Bose guide asked, “Any questions?” Will said, “yes. What’s a woofer (pronounced “woo’ fur”). After the laughter died, they realized he was serious. The Bose rep for Will’s shop was mortified. I started working there shortly after because Will quit. “There’s just too much I don’t know -and don’t care about.” Sure wish I could have taken that trip!

That is just silly. Anyone knows a "Woofer" is a four legged animal, commonly referred to as a "dog" and "man's best friend".

I had a 500VDC 5000A power supply designed to drive a 70 milliohm load (a super conducting magnet at Fermilab) explode in a huge bang and dense cloud of smoke when I powered up the building on the neutrino beam line after doing a security sweep (the radiation when the beam was running would kill you in less than 30 minutes). I powered the building back down and investigated. I opened up the back of the power supply (about the size of a refrigerator). The 3" x 1" x 12" parallel copper buss bars at the bottom for the 480 VAC incoming power were spaced about a foot apart. I found two rat paw prints on one and two on the other, and nothing else. No blood. No fur. No bones. Nothing. It just instantly glowed red and vaporized. And yes, we had some big rats on our 6800 acre site. They loved to chew up cables that weren't properly protected (physicists weren't particularly careful when cabling new experiments).

We played a tight stage/bar in downtown last night that forced us to play acoustic (the drummer is awesome on cajon).

it turned out to be an aMAZING gig with great audience and was one of those times when you're in the middle of something and you think "Gawd, life is &&@!ing AWESOME!"

Tight space required down-sized equipment. My 32" Drake Custom "COVID Special" and old Rumble 40 nailed it.

I've said it before (I forget where!), that the Rumble 40 is a great little acoustic gig amp. I've used mine in a few acoustic jam sessions, including a fairly sizable hall with horrible acoustics. (Echoed like crazy!)

Nice! I'm not familiar with Drake. Glad the gig went so well.
@Drake Custom is a guy in Iowa who makes amazing instruments. I bought two from a decade ago and then had him make my "dream bass," well, 2 of them -- one fretless. They are beautiful and tough enough to gig lots.

When COVID hit and parts were impossible to get, he cobbled a few seconds bodies, some necks he'd made and extra parts and sold inexpensive student models that embarrass factory firsts

I use an Epi EB-0 for tight spaces/backup. My R40 is used with my Ibanez semi-hollow AGB200 at the community concert band[~55 pcs]rehearsals(I play string bass parts-I don't play string bass, never have). I usually bring the 100 for the concerts so it reaches the whole room full of people. I also used the 40 at a little jazz club. Plenty for the(outta bizness)room. It was a jazz club-of course it's outta business.

You’ve probably heard this before, but:

What’s the difference between a rock band and a jazz ensemble?

The rock band plays 3 chords for 10,000 people and the jazz ensemble plays 10,000 chords for 3 people..

Hi everyone, I'm writing here a problem with my Rumble 500 combo. The bass signal enters the DI (a brand new bss ar-133) powered with phantom, then from the link output it goes to the combo. The strange thing is that if I disconnect the cable from the combo input I hear a loud noise in the PA, why do you think? Thanks to those who will help me!

Yeah, because both guitarists and the drummer have jazz backgrounds it's a running gag in our band.
On a semi-serious note, we've seen jazz clubs(or jazz nights)come and go 'cos the listeners will get one glass of 'house' wine and nurse it for 3 hours. Club can't make money, end of jazz night-or club.

Ciao, paolo! @paolo176, you are now member #1774 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Please help us understand your setup. I guess your bass plugs into your DI, which plugs into both your Rumble and your PA? Is that right? If so, perhaps you should unplug the DI from the PA first?

How about telling us a bit about yourself, paolo, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Your TalkBass World Is Changing!!!

Per TalkBass founder paul's announcement we're getting a major system upgrade early July 2nd!!! (Not sure what time zone he's in for figuring out your effective time.)

Yes, there will probably be some "growing pains" with the new version of TalkBass. But please be patient as we all work our way through this necessary upgrade.

You can see approximately what the new TalkBass will look like at:

A few of us lucky users have been 'playing' with that Sandbox version for a while now to help paul find any major problems. We did find a few things that got fixed, and there may be a few more needing a fix. So, please be patient as we bring our beloved TB more up to date. :smug:

Here's the Invalid Link Removed for your perusal.

And here's the Invalid Link Removed for grits & sniggles.

Please be patient.
