Dear rumblers, I need your advice.
I have a gig coming in two weeks, my first gig in 26 years, basically a new start.
I play in one of the three bands scheduled for the night, and one of the bands will provide a bass cabinet, a Marshall 4x10 800w at 4 ohms. I guess the bass players of the two other bands will bring theirs amp heads, not willing to share them.
I have a rumble combo 500 v3 and also the rumble 210 extension cabinet. My questions is: is the combo compatible with the Marshall cabinet? I guess it is, but my understanding of these technicalities is quite limited...If so, I could just bring the combo and connect it to the Marshall, otherwise I need to carry also the Rumble 210 cabinet.
Thank you for you help!

This review are interesting ..... make me wanna revisit the R200 combo again....

"In the modern age it seems not all watts are created equal. The 140 watts to internal speaker RB-200 is loud and it has a superior EQ section to the Ampeg RB-115, which is not as loud w/ same wattage. I also had and just sold my RB800 210 neo combo because the RB-200 is just as loud but w/ the warm chest thump of a 15" speaker. For my gigs it's all I need; ... ... ... "

The R200c is certainly worth revisiting, Yah-Yah! But, I smell inaccuracy and exaggeration in the review. 🤔

Watts are all equal because they are measurements, but their meanings get spun by marketers, and their usages get spun by reviewers!
  • The Ampeg RB-115 is only 100 watts standalone, vs the Rumble 200 at 140w.
  • There's no such designation as "RB-200" or "RB800", neither Ampeg nor Rumble.
  • No way the R200c at 140w can get "just as loud" as the R800c at 400w turned up.
Reviewers may sometimes have even less relation to the truth than marketers!

Aha! Just the snobbish self-portrait I was looking for. 🧐 Thank you, Yah! See my avatar!

It looks to me like the extension cab has to be 8 ohms or higher.

NO, stefan!!! Miles is totally correct! Your Rumble 500 combo is NOT compatible with any 4 ohm extension cabinet. It could burn out your Rumble's amp!!! Sorry, but you should take your 8 ohm 210 cab, instead, unless you have (or can borrow) a bass amp head that can handle the 4 ohm cab.

@stefanos80, you are now member #1794 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

How about telling us a bit about yourself, stef, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

What about women ?

I had a girlfriend that weighed 105 lb and one that weighed 145.

105 pounder was louder than the 145 when they were mad 🙃

What about them, low? Are you considering an acquisition?

I've never seen a reliable and accurate manual of spec.s for them, though I've known men who seemed to think they did! 🙄 In fact, I find the consistency of manufacture and/or performance can be quite erratic, to say the least. 😵‍💫 And I've certainly seen no correlation between total weight and volume. Actually, in my experience, the first several months of life, at their lowest total weight ever, can often produce sustained continuous volumes surpassing all future performances! Of course, startlement in later life can sometimes produce short-term peak volumes, but it's not always reliable. 🤔

Of course, I'm no expert. My first committed experience did not end well, ... , for anyone involved. And I'm still only in the 5th decade of my second commitment. 😍

Congratulations on the second love !

My first and only wife was seven years older than me. She passed away in 2014.

Anyhow, I 've never had a problem with older women. In fact, I have a few flirting with me these days. Trouble is, since I'm 66 years old now, older woman = "old woman" .

Oh well, I like my space these days. And it's great to bring new gear home without being roasted !

His volume opinion share between R200 and R800 are interesting part. Haha....

But if compare between R800 and R500 side by side,I found that R500 sound slightly fuller and deeper. R800 sound more to modern and crispy side.

I think maybe the new voice character on R800 make his hearing confuse the deep and bigger low end on R200 has equal volume as R800.

Perceived volume is different from actual volume, for sure. We also don’t know his bass or its settings, or the amp settings and whether they were identical. Or what he likes to hear. Then there’s the possibility of hearing loss; highs tend to go first, which would reinforce your last idea.

Played a gig last night and debuted my rumble mod, I cut up one of our tshirts and my brother made me a frame. Wrapped around and stapled to the back, and attached some spare Velcro I had.

The bass player in the band after us had two R800s stacked - was talking to him and he admitted it was probably more than he needed (room was probably about 30’x50’). Was showing my R100 to another bassist and she was amazed at the size and weight, and how good it sounded during the show (also lots of love for my Guild!).

I think you mean between "0" (as in off) up to a little less than 2, like a typically marked volume control?

I think I know what you mean...mine seems like there is a lot of volume boost at the very beginning of the rotation. Mine goes from off, and then just barely at 1 for practicing, where even set to "2" its already quite loud. Whereas the rest of the rotation of the volume knob isn't as linear.
Exactly this. All of the volume is at the beginning, rather than an even and smooth volume rise.

My only real complaint about my Rumble 500 is the volume control. I have yet to play a stage where I need to set it louder than about 1.5. Anyone come up with a way to modify it so it isn’t necessary to leave it so low? Is there a replacement pot that you can install ?

Ah! Now I see your meaning, lazar. Yes, non-linear volume pots can also help to blow low-rated cabs. Fr'instance, many Rumble 800 combo owners wanna use a Rumble 115 cab (rated at 300w) to take a possible 400w from the combo saying, "Oh, I never turn it up more than halfway." Their thinking is that only sends 200w to the cab. But, they don't realize that halfway setting could actually be sending the cab much more than 300w, possibly enough to damage it!

There may be a more linear, and more expensive, pot that could be substituted. But it would require a very good tech to find and install it (of course, voiding any warranty).

After playing through this combo for a while now, I am really quite impressed with the tone, power and light weight of my Rumble 100 (newest version). While I don't ever see the need for more power/volume I like that I can add another Rumble 100 and via the effects send/return and put two of them together for a super lightweight dual 12" rig if needed.

I have yet to need full volume on my R100. Yet I typically play through two for the even better tone. But when I need to use just one, it still works quite well.

My band has been playing slightly larger venues lately and so I thought I might need a bump up in power - probably didn't NEED it, but that's not how we roll here on TB. :D So, I traded in my Rumble 200c for the 800HD head a few weeks ago, and so in turn, had to also purchase a second, non-powered 115 cab.

Which in turn created a project for me - which was to make another matching grill cloth to match my other 115 cab. I've had the newest cab for a couple of weeks or more but had gotten around to doing this. But with 2 more gigs coming up this month, I couldn't go out in public with mismatched socks! 😲

So, I just finished this guy earlier this morning. I used the same leftover fabric as the first cab.

I know there's a slight color difference due to outdoor sun light vs. indoor, but I can assure you they match identically and they look like a proper pair now.

So now it matches this one:

They both get powered by this guy:
