Fender Rumble Club

A few years ago I did a fender styled 2 X 10 guitar speaker cab. I used the Country Western Brown Tolex, Wheat Grill Cloth, silver piping and chrome accessories. All from SBS. The speakers are Ted Weber Signature 10 S Alnicos. It has a huge, full sound for such bright speakers. Makes the 5F1 circuit in the Champ 600 sound huge! The Champ Chassis is now in a Tweed Champ styled cab. The bigger cab and 8" speaker sounds much better. I'm still thinking of building a 5C1 and chassis to go in the C600 cab.

(The Fender Emblem was just a printed piece of paper, used to evaluate the looks. I didn't use it)

I just ordered some Fender style parts last night for an amp build:

s-l1600.webps-l1600 (6).webp

p-t290hax.webpp-c194b_0.webpp-t1760sjb.webp

It will be an AA864 '64/'65 Blackface Bassman.

There is so much more to get, but these are most of the biggest expenditures. Now there are a bunch of little items that will probably come close to the same cost wise.

I will likely be using a number of items from SBS, including the aged Blackface style grill cloth. Maybe a little relicing to the hardware. I have to find someone who smokes, so I can get a cigarette burn too. ;)

Since you all are discussing the Rumble 25, does anyone know if it has an internal pot or something for adjusting the overdrive level? I’ve found the big volume jump when engaging the overdrive a bit annoying. I have a Rumble 500 and that has adjustable drive and level for the OD section, but the 25 doesn’t. Was using the 25 at a band practice and as soon as I turned the OD on for a section that needed it everyone looked at me like “what is going on?,” lol. Maybe it’s intended as a boost+overdrive? The boost is just a bit much.

The owners manual says nothing about a boost, just that it adds distortion tones (as expected). The block diagram is no help. Schematics online claiming to be for the Rumble 25 v3 are not.
Hopefully other owners can chime in with their experience.

A possible workaround would to buy an adjustable boost pedal that you engage without the OD and then kick the boost off before you engage the OD - set the amount of boost such that it levels out the SPL both ways.

That's vera nize, ray. 🤩

I wonder had you, possibly, gotten even some subliminal inspiration from the variety of grille-covers and cabinet covers included on the Fender Rumble Artwork wiki page? 🧐

Thank you!

I was inspired originally from that bottom pic (the psychedelic swirl) when it was originally posted in this thread.

I initially had what someone called a Matrix-like pattern. Kind of a modern design. I liked it, but it's been on a while and I started wondering about something a bit different but still in the traditional Fender vein. So Oxblood it was...

I apologize, surprise, that you weren't properly invited to join by posting a pic of your Rumble, back during your prior posts. Thankfully, that is no longer a requirement, but an appreciated option. @surprisetech, you are now member #1836 in the Fender Rumble Club. Please put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

Please tell us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular. We look forward to your continued participation here, where you're sure to fit right in, since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

Rumble On!

Thanks G-Dog. No apology necessary, was my own oversight. Member number is now proudly displayed!

The Rumble 100 is getting out and about a bit more these days.
I am one of a handful of volunteers that help run Sunday afternoon music sessions at our local RSL (returned services league). We take care of the performer schedule, PA and MC duties and each look after 2 or 3 months over the year. Most of us are musicians, so we also get to do a set here and there and usually back a few of the punters that get up for a play &/or sing on the Open Mic days.

The bass I take along to the RSL is a humble Sterling SUB Ray4, which was originally purchased 2nd-hand as a temporary stop-gap while my Maton was out of service. But it's got such a great feel and sound, and so simple to use, that it's turned out to be a keeper. The thing is, I can say the same about the Rumble 100 and the beauty of taking that pairing along to the RSL is that anyone who feels inclined on the day can jump up and use the rig without really needing to be familiar with either the instrument or the combo.

Pics attached. This is the Rumble 100 that I added the Monacor tweeter to. The photo of the rear shows a more recent mod; A 9V pedal supply output provided by a little MeanWell module.
Pickguard is from a clever artisan somewhere in Hong Kong and the strap was my 60th birthday present from my daughter.

My Rumble 25 is a great practice amp. Love the sound and the size.

I've wondered about that for quite some time, Basslie. The 3 smallest Rumble combos do seem intended for specific uses. But, the On/Off Overdrive of the 25 has always seemed to me a fairly limited feature. As you've found out, it's level doesn't match the undriven level and it has no adjustment! Certainly not the best for turning on & off during a song!! That's why I consider the Rumble 40, with the full set of controls, to be the minimum gigging amp.

Basslie, could you turn down the volume on your bass when switching on the Overdrive? (And then turn it back up when switching it off.) You see pro musicians making such mid-song adjustments all the time.

@joeLowB & @steve_kyle, do either of you have a workaround for "leveling out" your 25's Overdrive?

Changed up my speaker grill cloth again - I had the notion that a Rumble Oxblood Series might look nice.

I rather like it! I've got one cab finished, going to finish up the other one tonight (hopefully).

Looks good. Or you could've gone with this(from what was my Kasino):

[I tried to find some similar grill cloth-no luck].

Yeah, that’s probably the easiest work around: adjusting instrument volume. I usually go DI or use the 500, but the 25 is nice to have even if going DI as something to add a little more presence for the band to hear/feel.

Loaded out the rig last night to practice (rumble 500, barely 2 months old), into my tiny car. Bumped the high-mid knob against the door frame and dented it into the amp. Now the amp sounds too boomy and distorts. This knob has no effect and it sounds like it is stuck at 100%. I am going to get it repaired locally (after sunday's gig!) But i guess this is just a warning ⚠️ Careful with your knobs!

Sorry this happened. I have padded covers for mine for several reason, including my occasional spaz moments. Also rain resistance and a pocket.

First post, and semi new to a fender Rumble. I inherited an older rumble 60, it got me started and I used it to practice with a band. A coworker of mine, generously, gave me his older Kustom Bass II amp. That extra wattage helped with playing with a drummer. I have used that amp for practice and gigging for 2-3 years. It has been reliable and powerful enough, but it must be 100lbs. I finally splurged and bought an open box Rumble 800 combo this week. I’m eager to try it in practice and at our next gig. The weight was the main selling point, but the headphone jack was a nice bonus. I used it for silent practice last night. I love not having to “lug” it up and down the basement steps. Here are both of rumbles, old and new

Is yours the combo ?

I had the head and 2×15 cabinet and gigged with it in the late 70's to early 80's. I think it was 130 watts or 160 watts.

The cabinet was quite heavy.
Yeah, the combo. It’s a real back breaker. After practice and gigs I have been guilty of leaving it in the car for like 2 weeks.

That looks like a well used Rumble V1 60 ya got there. Do the pulsing red lights in the ports still work? I think that is SO cool!!

Ho's about telling us a bit about yourself, kell, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journeys in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...
