Fender Rumble Club

As I've posted before, my main Fender setup is my Rumble 200 V3 Head, R210 & R115 V3 cabs. This setup will cover most anything I'll ever need.

I've tested the head with the 115 and it has a nice full warm sound. It has a fat low mid to low end sound. The 210 is punchier, a little more mid scooped and with slightly more low end. Individually, I much prefer the 115. The aspects of the two combined far outweigh either cab individually. The combined sound is much fuller and punchier than the individual sounds.

If you play with a low B, (5 string or BEAD), the 115 can be a bit too loose and you loose clarity. I say stick with the tens with a low B.

If you play a 4 string (even drop D) the combination of cabs is sweet. You'll get a nice punchy sound with lots of low mids and lows. A fuller sound that will sound like a bass.

Stack with R210 & R115.JPG
This is my Rumble stack. I also have a similar stack from a British brand, which is the tonal opposite.

I like a "Modern-Vintage" sound. If I wanted a more vintage sound, I think two 115s would be the way to go.

March 1, 2016: I like the sound of my Rumble 100 v3 for band practice, but I am afraid it might not cut it for a performance. I really wonder how much more sound it would make with a 100W 15" PA plugged into the XLR port.
Or I could just get another, bigger Rumble...

March 1, 2017: I am stunned. It is just stunning. I like a good whisky. Irish is good.

Today, April 11, 2025: Guys, you have to let me back in the club. I just got a Rumble 210 v3 cab. The little Elf sounds great through it. This will probably be my next gig rig.

Annnnnd, ... ... ... The Prodigal Returns! Kill the fatted calf!! Well, hondo, you actually were an active member of The Club, though un-numbered (for which I apologize), for exactly a year! And one of our Club policies is "Once a Rumbler, always a Rumbler", ('cause you never know when you might be back).

@hondo4life, you are now member #678 in the Fender Rumble Club, as you should have been before. Congratulations and welcome back! Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

I got a number! I’m really in the club!

The Rumble has its first show in only a couple of weeks, and I have full confidence in its Rumbleability.

Just listed my 800C in case anyone is in the market. Some nice extras, including a stand and cover (although not pictured).

800c has all the benefits of the 500 that everyone loves, plus lighter weight and 1/4 power switch. GLWTS.

I hope you're doing alright, Thudly. Not giving up bass, are you?

I also trust you saw my recent post about our Club policy of "Once a Rumbler, always a Rumbler", ('cause you never know when you might be back). You'll still be Rumbler #1610 henceforth.

Wishing you all the best.

Catching Up Dept.:

He asked that I tell everyone here that he says to... ... ... ...

I would like to join please! My first Rumble was a 75 combo tiltback that I bought from Craigslist. It was in nearly new condition. I had it for 5ish years and it stopped working. I pulled the amp and am using the speaker with another head. I've saved the amp in case it can be fixed. After that my sons started playing and I bought them a 40. Incredible amp. Then I bought another 40 so they could practice separately and carry them around if needed. Then I bought a 25 that I keep next to my "TV chair". I play on that just about every night. The 40's are just incredible because of the features. I've brought that 25 around and used it to record when there is 1 microphone/iPhone in the room and it is barely audible to me but loud and clear on the recording. I love it!!

Thanks G-Dog. You know how it goes…I’ll be getting me a 100 at some point; just can’t beat the tone!

You're in rather unusual territory here. The Rumble 100 is 100 clean continuous watts. Fender doesn't list the peak or program wattage of their amps. While using a pair of Rumble 100's will move twice as much air (as one Rumble 100) at the same SPL. You don't actually have the headroom of say the Rumble 200 head into a pair of Rumble 112's. How much difference there will be in maximum SPL I can't say.

What other manufacturers rate their amps at is an entirely different kettle of fish.
I can agree with this. I checked by phone with Fender to make sure that they use r.m.s. power rating and not music or peak. I'm about to buy me second cab as it will make a great 2x12 stack.

I would say 200 watts peak, not continuous.
Don't most amp mfgs rate their amps for peak power? ... ... ...
Thank you for this diagram. It is very useful. By the way, I contacted Fender U.S.A. about the power rating and they said that all their amps are r.m.s. rated.

I assume you're looking for a Rumble 112 cab, right? May I ask you, please, to give us a complete description, or even a photo, of your Rumble rig? For that matter, how about telling us a bit about yourself, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. I have two R100C:s. They are my ”grab and go” amps, that I sometimes use chained, sometimes use just one of them. I also have one R200C and one R500C, they are my main gigging amps.

Some weeks ago I devided to try to do something about the boominess of the R100C. First I just put some foam in the ports, and was surprised how much it really did to help reduce to boom. Then I went one step further, opened one of them and glued in foam pices, sliced from an old mattress, put it back together, and wow! Before I did the other, I could easlily compare the sound, boom, tone.. between the two. After this I quickly did the same to number two. Super happy with the result, this is how they should have been made from the factory.

I just did the same thing to my new-ish Rumble 100.

As soon as I fired you the amp for the first time, I noticed the boominess.
I had some foam & thought I'd try it. Only took a few minutes.

There was just enough foam on hand to cover the back and the bottom of the amp.

Now it has more control over the range of tone you can get out of it.
Clearer & puncher too. Gotta love the free fixes!

The conventional wisdom here is that they left off the foam to help achieve a price point. This amp straddles the beginner/home player/garage band and smaller venue gigging markets. Adding foam and reinforcing rigity are desirable things for most of us, but they would also push the price point up. Right now it's probably the most popular mode of Rumble.
