Fender Rumble Club

I like my 500c but adding the 115 made a big difference in the low end.

If you mean "adding the 115" cab to your R500c, that's adding a huge 150 watt (plus more speaker area plus more harmonics) difference from simply swapping a 100 watt 1x12" for a 140 watt 1x15"!! The few times I've plugged my 115 into my R500c, for outdoor gigs, it certainly sounded most glorious, but I was surprised it was much more extra volume than I really needed. Oh, well, that's what volume controls are for.

I was thinking more that there are lots of mix and match options to get the sound you are looking for.

I recently purchased a used Rumble 500 head. I have a Rumble 2X10 cabinet to connect it to. I’m thinking of possibly adding a second 2X10, or perhaps even a 4X10, or 1X15 (I had a 1X15 once, foolishly traded it for a different 1X15 from another brand, thinking I’d like it better. Big mistake.)

I still have my R100 as well. If running it into a PA, I can put a little wedge I made under it, and point it at my drummer and myself.

On both, I just push in the vintage button, set Gain to about 11 o’clock (just below where to me, it gets “woofy sounding), then set final volume as needed. I keep controls at 12 o’clock, and if I need any overdrive-very rarely, I set level so it’s just a little louder when turned on, with drive set to taste.

Works for me!! 😉😉

Hi all… I’ve got anquestion for you. I’ve got a rumble 500 combo. I was using a Boss ME-90B into the FX Loop, and thought: Would it be better for the input into that fx return of the Rumble to receive a line level or guitar/instrument level signal? The ME-90B had a switch for either. What would you all recommend? Thanks all.

I'd cautiously start with "Line Level" with the R500c Master all the way down, then bring it up slowly.

I don't think the R500c's Master has any effect on anything going into it's FX Return! It is far upstream from there in the EQ.

You had hest be sure any volume or levels on your pedal are way down to start with.

Played out at a private event last night. Took my 500, and it performed like a champ as always. I don’t play out more than a few times a year, so I keep being pleasantly surprised at how great it sounds. Tight, punchy and full. It’s really all you need.

Sounds like everyone is urging caution. I’ve heard some fx loops work better with a line level return, but based on the feedback here I’ll keep the pedal out on the instrument level setting.

I suggest you try it both ways - if you start off with the volume low and gradually bring it up, you won't blow anything up.

I have no idea how much gain that particular pedal has, but the FX Return can handle a generic line level signal.

It you find the level too twitchy at line level, switch it to instrument level.

The main goal is to be able to reach the maximum SPL level you might need when playing a gig.

Interesting. I'm about to sell my 200c 'cos I prefer the sound of the 12 in my R100.
Tweetchie zone.
I just did a non-critical comparison between my 500C and my new 200C
I used my Lakland 55-02 and a passive P/J bass.

First off, they are CLOSE in overall sound. The 500C has cleaner lows with the active Lakland.

For me, I found the 500C sounds better with the Lakland, and the 200C sounds better with the passive P/J.

I wouldn't mind having either on a gig. If I didn't know the venue - I'd probably choose the 500C first, only because of its increased power rating.
But either would do the job. and I don't switch basses during a show.

Not a surprising result on my end, but it was good to compare them.

A Rumble for all occasions I guess!

Keeping both for now.

Ok so.... rig update:

Since I got the disguistingness of a deal on the Ampeg Pro Neo cab(s), (Yeah cabs, I thought I was only getting a PN-410HLF but also ended up getting a PN-115HLF), I went ahead and picked up a Rumble 800hd!
What a powerhouse!!!!

I stacked the PN-410 atop the PN-115 with the Rumble 800hd sitting on top and cranked it up at the first part of rehearsal. I was as happy as a pig in sh*t! So STOKED! Talk about RUMBLING THUNDER!

Reminded me of surfing 13 footers at Mugu!!!

My guitarist actually asked me to turn it down. I giddily abided.
anyhoo....

I still have the Rumble 500v3 and the 115v3.
Since I have the 800hd now I think I'll sell the 500v3 to a lucky duck for the great price I got her for.
I'll power the 115v3 and/or the other cabs w/ the 800hd. Oh, I also picked up an Ampeg PF-210HE. Needless to say I've now got cabs for days!
I won't even go into the additional Combo amps I picked up as I've already bragged too much!!

I'm still a rumblin' no matter what cabs I have, the Rumble 800hd will be sitting on top. The range of sounds I can get out of her is AMAZING!!!!

Whoa - ho - ho, Nardy! You must be a young gun, full of spit and viagra, to be willing to haul all those cabs around to your gigs!! (Ah! I remember those days of mine as only a distant memory now.)
PLEASE, show us a pic of your disguistingness mountain o' cabs under your mighty Rumble 800 HD head!?!

Sir Nardley, you should post all your disquistingual variable and sunny combos in the TalkBass Combo Club! Of course, their are quite a few Rumble combos there, but also lots of other brands and baubels, and even some things what don't even kinda look like combos, but whatever. Rumbler #1158 here, @Miles_ONeal is also Combo-ite #216 there and Master & Commander, too! He'll tell you whose on first and watts wear.
Just mention my name there and they might run you off! So, use your own discretiaryness.

Well... I did a thing...
A Rumble 200C thing....

I sold my 100C. I wasn't really liking the sound of the 12" speaker, and missed the 200C with a 15" I had awhile ago.
For some reason I seem to like 10" and 15" speakers, but not 12".

The only time I liked 12"s is when I had a Rickenbacker 4001, and that thing sounded great though an SVT with a V4 4x12 cabinet.

I still have my 500C, so I seem to be covered for awhile! :)

Don't know if I'll ever have a need to daisy chain them, but good to know the horsepower is there if needed!

I really, really would like to find a 200c to put under my 800 as a 15" cab... I wish they made a 15" cab that matched identically to the 800 2x10 combo....
