Fender Rumble Club

I should be getting a Rumble 25 later this week. Looking to re-Tolex it, likely in the Blonde smooth or Cream/Vanilla Nubtex with the appropriate grill cloth, wheat or oxblood. I'll put either a brown dog bone handle or the Brown plastic strap on it accordingly.

What say you, as I'm open to either style.

1963 style:
1765908381586.png & 1765908200830.png, with strap handle, or

1961 style:
1765908615436.png & 1765908256727.png with dog bone handle?

Either style will retain the cream cup cake knobs and flat logo.

I have both grill cloths, and will need to get the Tolex and handle, depending on which style I refinish it in.

I have an Eminence Alpha-8A I could install, but I've used a Faital-Pro 8FE200 in another amp, and that one has a bit more vintage flavor to the tone. Either way I would install it with the appropriate port tubing as calculated.

My first real bass amp (stock pic), so I'm partial to the firstest one.

I like both, and this is why I was debating about the black vs. Ivory Rumble 500. The Ivory is so classic, but then none of my basses are classic looking.

Tough choice but I gotta say Plaid’s pic is gorgeous, so …

A rumble in this color with a brown leather handle and black knobs would look awesome!

Between the Rumble 200 and 500 combos, which one sounds more mid-forward, particularly in the low mids? I’ve played and owned the 500 but haven’t tried the 200. I’m thinking about picking one up again.

aah, That works! @aah63, you are now member #1890 in the Fender Rumble Club. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

I've never played a R200c, but my hypothesis is that the R500c can be EQ'd to be more mid-forward (or punchy, or vintage, or modern, or whatever ...) since it's got more headroom in any given venue. The pre-amps are the same, so it's really just power and speaker size (and very little of that IMO) which can make a difference. I think that, as a former R500c user, you might feel much more constrained by the R200c with less than half the power of the R500c. That is unless, of course, your needs have been commensurately reduced. Just my 2¢. 🙄

How about telling us a bit about yourself, aah, such as your bass experience in general and your Rumble journey in particular? You'll fit right in here since we have all kinds. But we all love to ... ... ...

That one looks a lot like this one:

P1030356.JPG, P1030354.JPG!

I finished that May 29, 2021.

I did swap that speaker for a WGS G12C for a fatter, more articulate tones and the sensitivity brings it closer, volume wise, to my VOX AC-15C1X. The Weber Alnico 12-AS was a great speaker in that amp, but was too vintage-y for my uses.

I just ordered one of these:

What does replacing the grill cloth entail?

BOOM! There it is. @fourstringbliss, you are now member #1891 in the Fender Rumble Club. Congratulations and welcome. Put that number in your TalkBass Signature for safe keeping. Then make yourself at home here and on your Rumble Club Wiki page, the repository of all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge.

To replace the grille clothe, four, just pull the tab at the bottom -right of the grille to remove it from the amp. Then ,unscrew the logo badge and unstaple the grille clothe from the wooden frame. Next, stretch and staple the new clothe and re-screw the logo, then stick it back on (making sure the velcro strips remain in place). Not much to it, really.

Thanks! I've been playing bass for a few decades and finally settled into primarily playing bass at church where I wouldn't need an amp. I ended up selling the head/cab combo I had only to find I'm going to be playing out more than I expected. My eldest daughter went with me to GC earlier today where I was A/B'ing the Rumble 500 vs the Ampeg RB210. She preferred the fullness of the Rumble in the "flat" setting to the sound from the RB210, which she thought sounded hollow.

Any chance you could tell me the dimensions of the 500's speaker grill? I've got a couple of weeks off coming up and I want to order some replacement cloth so I can work on it with that down time. Thanks!

The R500c (and R200c & R800c & RS800c) is 19"W " 23"H x 14"D according to the Rumble Summary Info chart on your Rumble Club Wiki page. You will need a new grille clothe "a bit bigger" than that 19" width x 23" height. The wood frame itself is "a bit smaller" than that to be recessed even with the box edges.
