I agree, one of my favorite rigs I gigged with for a long time as an Ampeg B2R driving an SWR Workingman 2x10 sitting on top of a Hartke 1x15.I disagree that mixing speakers is *always* a compromise. sometimes it's perfectly what you want. That's one of the biggest myths floating around on TB. I think a bass player with OCD started it...
Mixing cabs means you have to experiment, because it's not predictable. I have two identical GK NEO 15 cabs that I love separately, and even in conjunction with a 500 combo (that rig kills). but I hate both 15s together. I love the 500 combo with the 112, but i love mo better two 112s together. Point is, it just depends.
As for an additional cab - the 210 would be my first choice, at least to try out. That 210 is uber punchy and will probably be a nice mix with the 15 in the combo. But who knows without trying... have fun while you're at it!
guitar or bass? don't care, I like em.
Only play the notes that need to be there, how they need to be played, nothing more, nothing less.
And then there is Pino Palladino. Currently he is known for his work with John Mayer, where is is a "feel" player and certainly doesn't play too many notes. But the other Pino is there, too, who is credited with rescuing a few songs when he was with Paul Young, such as Tear Your Playhouse Down, and Every Time You Go. Pino pretty much put the octave bass on the map.I remember an interview with Tony Levin, talking about recording with John Lennon. Lennon basically said that he heard Tony was a really good bass player, but please don't play too many notes.![]()
We old guys have to keep a lookout for tricks to save our backs. I use this for my Rumble 500:
Rock N Roller R2RT Micro Multi-Cart
I actually paid $20 for it at Costco.
I had an old convertible hand truck that we used for load in / load out that finally died due to rust we didn't notice until it broke on load out last gig. But yeah, hand trucks or flat carts are priceless for taking the load off of backs... good thing about the gigs we do is very little, if any stairs to deal with, like I said, biggest hurdle is getting gear in and out of the truck.
I was lucky I got one of these on sale Rock N Roller R2RT Micro Multi-Cart put both rumble cabs, rumble head and goody bag in one load!
I'm currently waiting for my [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which should arrive tomorrow. I figure it should do quite nicely for hauling my Rumble 500 combo around town.I was lucky I got one of these on sale Rock N Roller R2RT Micro Multi-Cart put both rumble cabs, rumble head and goody bag in one load!
I remember hearing them and thinking they were amazing, then it seemed as though he could only do a couple things before every song started using the same formula. Talented? Yes. Front page next year? Ehhh.Their album is pretty good, repetitive, but good.
I've got a 200 combo with the 112 ext cabinet and I'm very pleased with the results. adding that cab really opens the combo up and while it can't compete with the 500 for volume, it gets plenty loud and really has a nice tone. If you go another route please share your experience, we'd love to hear how it goes! Welcome to the club!It was time to retire my ancient Crate BX50. (It just isn't presentable for talking out in public.) I needed a decent amplifier to use yet be portable.
So Now I'm the proud owner of a Rumble V3 200 Combo. - - Wow. Impressive for 35lbs.
It was all the info I learned here on TB that swayed my decision to buy.
Now I'll let the collective intelligence here recommend which cab I should pair it with for when I want to 'go big'.
Fender says the 112(500w) is the 'matching' extension cab.
But the 210(700w) will also fit perfectly under the 200 Combo.
The 115(600w) is 4" wider and and 1/2" deeper, but 200w combo is also 15".
If I match the speaker size, 15 to 15, the extension cab isn't the same external size.
If I match what Fender says, my extension would 'only' be 12" and the combo 15".
And going with the 210, well it's Fender recommendation for the 500 combo and may be overkill.
Decisions... decisions.
Oh, and because 'Pict's or it didn't happen'... View attachment 767004
And I almost forgot... Can I get a number?
I have been considering doing the same with my 200. Can you describe the difference in tone between the 200 alone and the 200 with the 112? I know describing tones isn't easy.I've got a 200 combo with the 112 ext cabinet and I'm very pleased with the results. adding that cab really opens the combo up and while it can't compete with the 500 for volume, it gets plenty loud and really has a nice tone. In all honesty, I love the tone of my 200 by itself. When I add the 112 it gives it a little more bark but maintains the basic tone, but you can feel the extra air being pushed. Ultimately I don't think you'll say it's totally different, you get the same great tone, just more of it. I used this setup at an outdoor gig, everyone thought it had a killer sound, was easily heard, and I wasn't even close to pushing it to the Max. I'd say try it out, most places have a return policy if you're not happy, but I think you will be.I have been considering doing the same with my 200. Thanks! Yeah it doesAnd it looks great stacked like that.

My covers came yesterday. They fit perfectly, and are beautifully made. The only problem is that the cover for my 210 cab has the logo on the back, instead of the front. It's a shame, because it's a really nice embroidered logo. I talked to Larry. He said that if I send it back, he'll fix it. I'm going to think about it over the weekend. It almost doesn't really seem worth the trouble.I just checked my 500 combo w/cover, and you are correct, it's "slightly" off.....but until you mentioned this, it hadn't even occurred to me, it's that close. The cover slots provide a little room on either side of the actual handle, so it wasn't a noticeable issue for me. I have LeCovers on my 500 Combo, 210 cab, 115 cab & 40 combo....![]()
