Fender Rumble Club

Taking the plunge myself today, picking up a Rumble 200c after work and putting it right to work at rehearsal with my church praise team tonight. I test drove one at my local instrument store (same price as everywhere else, so buying local) using my Traben Neo Limited 5 string with GhS Precision Flats, on I was blown away at how awesome it sounded. A definite step up from the Crate BX-160 I'm currently playing. I hope to play out in smaller venues soon and I think this amp will deliver nicely. If I need more oompf, will a Rumble 115 be the best add on?

Thank you! Jeeps are my other money sucking hobby, lol. Nothing like climbing over stuff other people balk at.

I shall wear my Rumble number with pride! And I appreciate your input on the cab, I too believe this would be the best option being I'm a 5 string guy :bassist:

wow, thanks for replaying guys, Im gonna get the rumble 40, @Linnin every time I search something about the rumble you are there lol, your rumble 75 mod thread at the fender forum got very interested in the 75. I hope to join the club very soon:bassist:. Cheers
Why wait? You can join now! Welcome to the Fender Rumble Club @javiercorre! :woot: You are member #646 :hyper:  Rumble On!

We are the contrarians of TalkBass, and the status quo really dislike our pro-active club.

I am sooo glad I am a bass noob. I have a very narrow focus. Rumble it is. It works and I don't need to worry about sound--just practicing.

But--bass players probably could never be as anal/snobby as we sax players. Worse than lawyers--and I am one of those as well. Ughhhh

I really like the crowd here--everyone likes sharing their ideas. It makes all of us better. I really appreciate this forum.

I use mp3 at very low setting to break-in new speakers. While breaking-in speakers with Mr. Gregory Isaacs last night, low volume, the 500c and 210cab, I noticed the cabs compression horn not working. Yikes, confused icon. This morning tested full volume bass guitar, no horn. For those of you that have not seen the Fender compression horn, here you go. Notice the culprit? Notice the horn is 8 ohms. Notice the horn is not in series, but wired directly to the crossover circuit. Notice the nicely bundled wires.

Not only was the black disconnected, but the tab was bent. Another confused icon. FIXED! The combo/cab seem louder now.
My questions to you rumblers are:
1) does the 8ohm extension horn being disconnected affect the overall load/volume? I assume that the horn switch off cuts it at the circuit, and that the load is somehow corrected. But wouldn't a disconnected speaker wreak havoc when switch is on?

Foam plugs and such are cheap and cheerful, and great for protecting your hearing, but useless if you actually want to hear anything. Good earplugs are designed to let the full audio spectrum through while cutting the decibels. I have a pair of custom molded plugs that cut about 15dB, and they're great. I can hear everything perfectly clearly, just not as loud.
That's cool! I use those flanged ones which I guess are a step up from the foam plugs, but I only use them when other people are playing. I find it especially impossible to sing, particularly harmonies, with earplugs in.

With all that said, I think I get away with it because I play in bands that are not that loud. I don't really get ringing ears when I'm on stage. I also think most engineers tell you to turn down these days so FOH can handle most of the sound, which is better anyway since bands with high stage volume often are painfully directional. The guitarist in the band where I play bass uses a 130W amp, but it's a stereo chorus type clean amp, so it's not all that loud.

p.s. I feel like 15 dB is a lot. Most of the time, I just need a little cut to make it less painful. I feel like even 3-6 dB would be enough. Where did you get your plugs and how much did they cost you?

I am trained as a classical pianist first and foremost. You get to just shut up and take it when you don't get to take your own instrument with you. Plenty snobby in other ways.

I got mine at my local music store in Oslo. They have "molding days" every couple of months, when you can come in and get molds made for free if you order a set of ear plugs. Mine took about three weeks to make, and cost me about 1600 kr, which comes to about $190 or so.

I don't get ringing ears either, and I'm determined that I'm never going to. I don't play out much yet, but our practice room is small, and when our drummer and guitarist let loose, it's pretty loud. So these are a great help. They lower the sound to a reasonable level, but I can hear everything quite clearly, and even converse comfortably with my bandmates between songs.
