Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

My 5 year old Stage 800 has mysteriously cut out (no volume at all) the last 2 jams I attended. I would be playing and then no sound for a couple of seconds and then it would come back. I tried changing cords but it still cut out. The amp stays in a locker at the jam space. I haven’t updated the firmware in quite a while so I am going to try that first.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks,
Mark

What Maarti said. ^^^ Wi-fi can actually interfere with normal operations of the amp! Whether turned on at the same time as the Bluetooth, or all by itself! This wi-fi is strictly for firmware updating only!

Also, if you're trying to use the FX Return Jack Wiki page, even accidentally, it can cause such problems, too.

Finally, if checking those wireless settings don't help, it's just possible that you may have got some corrosion on one, or both, of the FX Return jacks. See Wi-fi can actually interfere with normal operations of the am for how to check and treat that.

Hope this helps, rm. :D

I've added an interesting quote, from the venerable agedhorse no less, that I found in a recent thread to the Fender Rumble 500 Frequencies wiki that I believe to be apropos of the subject. I have made it the Prologue to that page with the intention of putting that information into some more proper perspective.

I hope this addition will be helpful to those of us interested in this topic!

Hello fellow modeling Rumblers! Looking for some advice. My band is considering doing Eminence Front from The Who. While I realize there is so much that goes into a bass player's tone, I was wondering if anyone has come up with an amp tone that comes close to that Entwistle early '80s tone. I am also limited on my bass choices (see my sig). Don't have an Alembic, Warwick, or even a Dean Entwistle Signature bass that might help get close to Entwistle's sound. To be honest, I don't even know where to begin. I'm not seeing an Ashdown, Sunn amp models or cabinets (and have never tried to figure out how to change cabinets within a model).

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Is the back of the amp close to a wall while you're at practice? It may not be getting enough ventilation to the cooling fan.

So, rm, have any of these suggestions been any help?

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! Amp has plenty of ventilation so I don’t think that is the issue but great thought. I was unable to update the amp as it can’t seem to find the Wifi network at our jam space. I know the modem frequency changed from 2.4 to 5Ghz so maybe that is why the amp can’t see the network?
Anyway, I turned the Wi-Fi off on the amp and it hasn’t cut out since then so I suspect the Wi-Fi being on was the culprit. I am going to bring the amp home to see if I can update it. Thanks for the replies gents!

Yeah, the amp will need a 2.4GHz wi-fi network.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if the amp simply can't "see" 5 Ghz wi-fi networks? But maybe it can actually use a 5 Ghz one if it is manually added as a "hidden" network?!? From the Stage & Studio manual, page 38, WIFI USE:

I'd try it, but I left my amp at a jam space and I'm on my way outta town for a few days.

Tried this on my Studio 40. It didn't find the 5Ghz network.

Thank you, @Cowboy0071, @rmc63, @Deleted member 268085 and @RL5 for clarifying that the Rumble Stage & Studio =1414841']cannot see or use a 5Ghz wi-fi network for updating their firmware! So, I've added links to this to the Stage & Studio Links section and to the Tone App Support section of your Rumble Club Wiki page, so it will be easier to find.

Thank you, Rumblers all, for sharing your findings and efforts in all things Rumble! :smug:

That's pretty hopeful that fender will ever give us another firmware update. :p

I have a Rumble Stage 800 which I use for live work, however we all use IEM's so I have the volume of the amp fairly low on stage just enough to give a bit of feel and atmos as the bass and all other instruments go through the P.A.

Although I don't need it I would really like to try it with the matching Fender 2 x 10 extension cab. As I say I don't need it, but before going to IEM's (and before the Stage 800 even) I had an Ashdown 2 x 10 combo with a 2 x 10 extension cab and it sounded great. I have used the Ashdown combo on its own and adding the extra speaker is a different sound and not just the volume, it sounds fuller as well.

Does anyone on here use a Stage 800 with an extension cab and IEM's as well?

I don't have IEMs, but as you found with your Ashdown, adding a Rumble 2x10 extension cab turns the Rumble Stage 800 into a different animal. Adds fullness, as well as volume. Since you know you don't "need" it, I'd say go for it. IEMs won't change the sound of the amp.

Thanks @G-Dog, wish I had known this before I went through the trouble of returning a perfectly fine amp just to get a new one and find out it was my WiFi causing the issue.
