Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

Now that you've had it a few days, how's that GTX-7 working out for ya? If I start using the Studio more in a band setting, I'd definitely want one!

@G-Dog - I know it was probably an oversight, but see post #687. I'm sure other Studio and Stage owners would like to hear how the GTX-7 is working out with your Studio. ;)

Thanking you in advance for your factual and unbiased review!

Sorry, beni. I don't mean to keep you, or anyone else, in suspenders. But, I've actually not taken the time to put the GTX-7 through its (my) paces yet. :( I'd like to blame it on Mrs. Dog's honeydew list, but don't want to lead you a "stray", either.

Truth be told, I've been kinda bummed out since last weekend. Saturday was gonna be our first monthly Bluegrass Jam since the quarantine began, but I woke up sniffling and cautiously called in sick. I felt it was just my usual seasonal allergies, but didn't wanna risk a sneeze around these fabulous musicians, most a lot older than even me! So, bummer weekend.

Monday, I hadn't heard how the turnout had been, so I texted one of the organizers. Surprisingly, his daughter replied that her mom, his wife, also a co-organizer & sweetheart of a lady, had died suddenly Sunday night on the way to church! She had long been on oxygen therapy and they first thought it was a faulty gauge reading or regulator, but she passed shortly after arrival at the hospital and I still haven't heard the actual COD.

We've maintained a, sometimes distraught, quarantine away from many family events these last months; birthdays (from 1yr to 69yrs), Father's Day (for many), our granddaughter's baby shower (we're gonna be great-grands!), my favorite aunt's funeral (at 98!), all in other cities some hours away. Yet this friend's funeral this week, so physically nearby, hurt just as much to not attend! So, bummer all week long! I really don't know how I would get through this without my TB friends and the opportunities to (somewhat) escape the realities of our times.

Sorry, didn't mean to unload like that. Just haven't felt like playing with my new toy yet. When that time comes, I will report. 'Til then, I believe DROOPY_TX has done an excellent comparison of the GTX-7 to the MGT-4 footswitches from their specs.

No apologies needed my friend! Just hate that along with "everything else", you've more tragedy to endure. Please take your time and give that pedal a workout when the time is right. I can relate a bit, as soon after I purchased the Blackstar amp (that met an infamous end), my mother passed. So was several months dealing with estate and coming to terms with her death before I was really even wanting to get "back in the saddle"!

Thoughts and prayers to you and all families involved!

I find the noise gate option is pretty good at dealing with high gain and noisy single coils. It's worth checking out if y'all haven't already. I usually use it and the cab compression at about mid setting. There's not much need to use to pedal versions in your signal chain.

Starting doing that too, really helps with high gain distortion noise...yes, looking at you Darkglass :P

Still getting used to all the options - it's a bit overwhelming at first. Where do you access the noise gate option?

@bhendrix It is parked in the Dynamics+EQ section (see below) , then you turn the threshold sensitivity knob (test while plucking at different intensities until you find the sweet spot), then change the attenuation (how much it dampens the sound), but most often, I leave it to the max. Have fun experimenting!

Thank you! Much appreciated!

Does anyone know if one or a mix of the effects in the Tone app can give me something similar to the infinite sustain latching effect of the Freeze pedal by EHX (or the Plus Sustain pedal)?

I've owned my bass and Rumble 60 for many years but have only gotten serious about learning in the last 8 months or so. Now that I'm playing a lot I realize I don't really care for the tone of the 60. It sounds like a box. I know it is a box but I don't want it to sound like one!

Because I'm a little nervous about another small enclosure, I was looking at getting a Stage 800. But, I only play in my basement and don't really see myself gigging. I see the Studio 40 and the Stage 800 both have 10" speakers. Is the single speaker in the 40 the same as the speakers in the 800? If they were set to the same volume, do they sound similar or is the tone from the 40 obviously coming from a smaller enclosure?

Thanks for the help guys!

Joe

I am not one who had a Rumble 60 so I don't know how much help I can offer but, I do know that the 60 was older technology. I also don't know what your "box" sounded like.

I do know, from experience, that the Rumble 25 with it's 8" driver sounded "weak" compared to my Rumble 200 at low volume. I replaced the 25 with a Studio 40 and I am in small space heaven!

I would encourage you to try out the Studio 40 either at a store or from a site that allows returns/exchanges. I do believe the Stage 800 would be over-kill if you are not gigging (even my 200 is over kill)! Just my .02 worth ;).

But, I only play in my basement and don't really see myself gigging.
Then you don't "need" the Stage 800 - but if you'd like to share your musical prowess with the neighborhood, it'll fit the bill!

Seriously though, I have the Studio 40 and love the tone. The cab is well tuned for the amp and it'll get loud. I'm usually around 9 o clock practicing at home. Cranked up to noon one day and was shaking the shelves! I'm not sure if the 10" speaker in the S40 is the same as the S800. I'm thinking that it isn't due to the power handling requirements being so different.

I have a R500 combo and now leave it at the drummers house (where we play) - it is WAY overkill for practice purposes. The Studio 40 is the perfect practice amp (imho)! ymmv, don't pass go, don't collect $200, etc, etc.

I have previously theorized that those speakers can obviously do much better[/URL], since the Stage 800 is rated 400 watts continuous by itself and uses the exact same 210 cab, but with black grille cosmetics, for the other 400 watts continuous to total up to 800! So, I believe the Stage speakers (and R500c & 210 cab) have an effective rating of at least 200 watts continuous, each, if not more! :woot:

If you have any desire to play in a band at intermediate-to-large (or loud) gigs, the the Stage 800 is your Huckleberry. But if you truly do not see yourself gigging, then the Studio 40 is your daisy with all the same voices.

I have the Stage 800 and it is total overkill for my needs right now but I may gig again, who knows? I do play it in my apartment at low volume with no complaints from my neighbours. Sounds like the Studio 40 might be the way to go for you though if you don’t plan to play out. I have jammed with my 800 and a 15” extension cab and it is thunderous but maybe I could add another 8 ohm cabinet cabinet just to be sure. Hmmmm

True dat! You can run two 8 ohm cabs with the Rumble Stage 800 combo!! That's the only Rumble combo that can do that! Only the Rumble 800 HD head can beat it with a total of four 8 ohm cabs, but it don't do modeling.

Thanks guys! That's what I needed to hear. A Studio 40 should be at my house on Friday!

Joe, start now reading the manual in the Stage & Studio Links section of the Rumble Club Wiki page, linked in my signature. And consider getting the 4-button or 7-button footswitch to make many of the functions SO very much easier, even easier than the TONE App, and that's saying a lot! But, of course, the TONE App for your smartphone is an absolute must do. Read about it in the TONE App Support section of the Rumble Club Wiki, especially The DROOPY_TX Preset Experience sub-section with DETAILED Presets Listings and the Presets Decoder Files.

Yeah, it seems like a lotta homework. But it's the key to understanding your Studio 40 and will make f___ing* around with it even more fun!
