Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

I have owned a Stage 800 for a couple of years now, I think it’s a really great amp and after this time I am still experimenting with all of the settings and model options! My main live sounds are a modified model Rumble V3 plus the GK model. ... ...

Say, there, Baker, man! Good to hear from you. Please show us a photo of your Rumble in the main Fender Rumble Club thread and get a free, unique membership number! :)

...... The one thing I am a bit disappointed in though is the Aux In for inputting external audio devices etc for playing along to etc? Whatever you seem to plug into it (eg YouTube Audio or MP3’s) the sound is VERY thin! In live settings in addition to my bass I use my Stage 800 for amplifying my Moog Taurus pedals, but as huge sounding as these pedals are the Aux In seems to suck a lot of the tone and depth out of them. ... ...

1. Probably not the answer for more volume & depth, but some Rumblers who play music from MP3s or CDs between sets thru their combos make sure to turn on the horn for that, while during sets they mostly turn off the horn. Just FYI.

B. Page 42 of the Stage & Studio manual tells you how to set the Auxiliary Input Volume, under the Bluetooth menu, of all places. There are 3 fixed levels, High, Normal & Low, and the default allows the Master to control it. It also describes balancing the levels of instrument input and the Auxiliary device, but all settings are still controlled by the device's volume setting, too. Hopefully, this can help you?

... ... Is there any way I can use the Stage 800 ... by using the Send/Returns instead of the Aux In? I have tried using the amp’s input socket for my bass and the return socket for the Taurus but this doesn’t work. ... ...

Yes, usually anytime you plug something into an FX Return that doesn't take a signal from the FX Send then you are just bypassing the pre-amp completely and putting nothing but the FX Return into the power amp. Can your Moog Taurus pedals take the FX Send signal in and just blend their own sounds together with it? I don't any such reference in the Taurus 3 manual.

I also don't see, in a few quick searches, any posts that talk about using the Taurus in an FX Loop, or Aux Input, at all. I did see several mentions certain amps specifically for the Taurus, I assume by itself. One post says he uses different amps for bass guitar and bass pedals because they seem to interfere with each other when playing simultaneously thru the same amp.

I also found the Bass Pedals (Taurus, Roland, MIDI, Etc.) Club where you might ask this question.

Hope some of this helps.

Can I use the beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 80 Ohm headphones with the Studio 40 for silent practice ?

I should think so, Pan. Welcome to TalkBass in general and to The Fender Rumble Club in particular. :D

Those look like very nice "cans". Just start with the Studio's Master turned way down, then slowly turn up to a comfortable level. Plugging into the Studio's headphone jack turns off the speaker, so you won't disturb others that way. If you use the Aux In jack, or Bluetooth streaming, to play music thru the Studio you'll hear that thru the stereo headphones, too.

The Studio's manual gives these spec.s for the headphone jack:
43mW/channel into 16Ω (minimum recommended impedance)
So, your 80Ω headphones should be fine.

You should post a photo of your Rumble amp, with or without bass(es), in the main Fender Rumble Club thread to get your free, unique membership number and keys to all Rumbling wisdom and knowledge. Then return here to this club sub-thread for any discussions specific to the Studio, Stage or LT25. :)

Yes indeed. That’s exactly my setup, and it works a treat.

Thank you gentlemen!

Thanks,
I asked Fender about it and they said that firmware on my LT25 and Tone software on Windows 7 are current versions

I'm not for one moment doubting your version of events, and please don't think that I am, but that makes absolutely zero sense. Whilst the software may not be capable of running its most current version on Win 7, the firmware should be entirely independent of the host platform. That's kind of the idea of firmware.

Hi G-Dog and thanks for your response.

I have read other postings about Aux-In’s (whether it be the Rumble or Ampeg I can’t recall), but the consensus was that there seems to be some some sort of filter which takes out a lot of the bass frequencies out of the Aux-In. This is very noticeable with and without headphones, having said this the Sansamp does seem to add some of the fullness back in.

The Taurus 3 has 2 main outputs (1 x low impedance and 1 x high impedance jack socket), but no facility for working in a loop for entering into the Stage 800. As I said, it worked brilliantly in the Line In socket on my Ashdown, sadly this is lacking on the Rumble.

The pedals work ok through the return socket on the Stage 800 but this of course makes the input socket for the bass unusable?

The best solution is of course to use separate amp & speakers for the bass and the Taurus, however most of the stages we play on are too small to fit a further bass rig though, and it is something else to carry in and out and set up, and up to now it hasn’t been necessary because of the Line In sockets on my previous amps.

I’ll have a look on the Bass Pedals Forums as you suggest, but other than using a small mixer it could be that separate amps are really the best solution for me with the Stage 800?

Bake, you may find that even using a mixer to put both the pedals and the bass into the Stage isn't ideal since then the pedals will also get the modeling settings of the Stage, which may not be what you want. I dunno if you run them both on the same songs or same parts of the same songs, but footswitching between settings could get complex!

Good luck. And don't forget to post a pic of your Stage in the main Rumble Club thread to join up.

You are right. I was surprised he said that I am running current firmware on my LT.
Did you notice any difference from the previous firmware on yours?

I think the amp modelling I use on my Stage 800 would have a very minimal effect on the sound of the Taurus 3’s.

Yes I will post a pic of my Stage 800 when I can.

I’m currently wading through the 66 Pages of the Pedal Forum, so far it would seem everyone is either using a separate bass rig or a powered PA speaker for their Taurus 3’s.

I use the T3’s in certain parts of songs only along with minimal accompanying bass, but yes as you say footswitching between the 2 instruments would be a nightmare.

Is the latest Fender app firmware 3.1.8?I just updated..if so anything new?

Yo, Buzzy! Don't confuse the amp's firmware version 3.0.23 (Invalid Link Removed)
with the Tone App version 3.1.8, which is software (Release notes in your iPhone or Android "store").

OK Modeling Rumblers, I'm sure I've done this before but can't remember how I did it. I've modified a couple of presets on my Studio 40 (at home) and want to transfer them to my Stage 800 (at our rehearsal space). I think I did this using the Tone App, but am not sure.

1) Can I do this using the Tone App?
B) If not, how do I do it?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Don't know if this will work but you can try to use the Backup/Restore function in the Tone App Settings: Create a backup by pressing the plus sign (+ on the top right corner) with the Studio40 and later on Restore that backup while using the Stage800.
By the way, It's allways good to make a Backup before a gig so that you can change presets acording to the acoustic conditions of the room and restore them later when back at home.

Creating a backup is a great idea. Thanks.

You ought to be able to just upload them to the Fender Tone site, and then download them from there to your Stage 800.

I think that's what I did the first time. Thank you.

While I enjoy the various presets on my stage 800 I would at times like to use the combo amp as a simple power amp for using it with some various character DIs and preamp pedals as well. What would be the best preset(s) to use those sorts of pedals with the Stage?
Perhaps plugging into the loop return, or to use a preset of say a studio direct input model?
