Fender Rumble LT25, Studio 40 & Stage 800

.
Also from the main Rumble Club thread:

Calling all Rumble 210 users, that is 210 cabs, Rumble 500 combo and Rumble Stage 800 combo users! Please let us know of any problems with these 10" speakers not holding up.

I've not read of this problem before, certainly not to this extent. If there is a systemic problem with the 500 running them, seems it would be even worse with the 800 (either Stage or HD). Please advise!
.
I have had my Stage 800 since new in 2018 and I have not run into any driver issues, always sounds great! I jam on a regular basis with other folks so it gets used a lot.

.... I got LT25 as a home practice amp. .... Loving some of the presets and I wish I could use them with the band.
Obviously 25 watts won’t do it so is there any way I can hook it up to the 500 v3 combo?
.... here is what I was thinking. Not sure it will work ... ...
1. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo AUX
2. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Effects Return
3. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Instrument Input
4. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 USB —> ??? —> 500 v3 combo ????

Hmmm, ... I think whoever wrote that reply from 7ender took the easy way out and actually avoided the question. Of course micing the LT25 will "work", and you could even plug the mic into the input of the R500c, if you wish (watch out for feedback!). But, that's not really the question, is it?

So, here are my thought on your proposed connections:

1. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo AUX

Recall that the AUX input on the R500c has no volume control. So, be sure the LT25 is at zero volume to start, then slowly raise it while listening closely to the R500c. Since the Headphone plug cuts off the LT25 speaker there should be no sound until the volume begins to go up. If there is extra distortion from the R500c when using a clean preset from the LT25, then discontinue immediately due to possible signal/impedance mismatch (wear & tear). Possible Bonus: Both the headphone output and the AUX input might be stereo ⅛" jacks (I think they should be, but who am I?)! So, a stereo ⅛" male-to-male cable would be a very simple connection!

2. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Effects Return

A possibility! Just add a ⅛"-to-¼" adapter to one end. Preferably with a ⅛" stereo jack to a ¼" mono plug (summing the stereo channels to mono, if such a thing exists). Same procedure as #1 since there is no volume control of the FX Return on the R500c.

3. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 headphone jack —> 500 v3 combo Instrument Input

Also a possibility! But now you have a volume control on the R500c, and all the EQ controls, on top of the tone from the LT25. Set the R500c's Bass, LoMid, HiMid, & Treble to 10 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 2 & 10, respectively, and zero Gain, zero OD, no Bright, Contour or Vintage, all to get the flattest coloring on the Lt25 tone. Start with the R500c Master (volume) at 8 o'clock and the LT25 Volume at zero, then slowly raise the LT25 Volume.

4. Bass —> LT25 input—>LT25 USB —> ??? —> 500 v3 combo ????

I dunno what the "???" is that could convert the USB signal to something suitable for AUX, FX Return or Input of the R500c. Perhaps a hardware recording DAW? Out of my field of experience, sorry. Maybe some recordists here can suggest some (at minimalexpense)?

Good luck, tommy boy!

Bass -> LT25 input -> LT25 USB -> USB recording interface -> 500 v3 FX return.

You don't even have to spend a lot of money to try this out. Behringer's UMC22 \usb audio interface box can be had for well under $50.

One last thing.
Let’s say I manage to connect LT25 with 500 v3 combo via usb audio interface into 500 FX Return; will I still be able to use master volume on 500?
My goal is to use 500 power amp for the presets from LT25, I don’t need just an extra speaker for 25 watts.
Can someone confirm that before I spend my money on the interface?

No, tommy, if you connect to the R500c's FX Return then the R500c's Master (volume) is useless. You have to control volume on the LT25 or, possibly, on the USB interface box.

But, if you go into the R500c Input, then you have everything still working on the R500c, as described above.

Good luck.

That was very informative step-by-step answer on your side. Thanks for taking your time to answer all of this G.
Regarding email from 7ender I got exactly same feeling. I wonder why he avoided to really answer my question given that it can be done. Anyway….

I think I will test some options. Have to speak with my wife about new amp founds just in case something goes wrong  I’ll report back how it went.

I've tested (and recorded) a bunch of different presets on the Studio 40.

I don't know when I'll have the time, I technically hold 4 jobs right now, so like life is gonna be busy until sometime in October. But eventually I will be putting together some videos on this amp!

Ooo! Ooo! I can hardly wait! Ooo! Ooo!

So here is an update on connecting LT25 to 500 v3 combo:
I skipped going from LT25 headphones to Aux on 500.
Going to FX Return - no master volume control on 500 and I noticed some latency. Crappy sound.
Going into 500 instrument input. That works. I had master volume on 500, no latency but not much of the boost. That is not what I expected. And I didn’t like what I was hearing coming from v3 210 speakers.

So….
My thought to doing all of this was to use my LT25 as an effect processor for my 500 combo. It didn’t workout. There is one more option to connect LT25 to audio interface but I am going to skip that for now.
Good part is that there is no “wear & tear” on any of my amps.

Very glad there was no “wear and tear” induced. Well done! :smug:

Oh, man! That's the one I had highest hope for, since the AUX takes a headphone signal from a smartphone, and (probably) being ⅛" stereo to ⅛" stereo.. Is the possibility of success worth the cost of that cable to you to try it?

... ... Going to FX Return - no master volume control on 500 and I noticed some latency. Crappy sound. ... ...

Hmmm, latency!? Wonder where that came from? o_O Maybe it was that curly-que cord slowing down the signal? :roflmao: Sorry, I got no idea 'bout latency there.

Did it sound distorted, like too much gain, or the like? Wonder if reducing gain on the LT would help?

Is that a ⅛" to ¼" stereo curly cable? Maybe the mono FX Return jack was only getting one of the two stereo channels? Maybe?

Hmmm, I can't imagine why the 500 couldn't give a very big boost that way!?! Again, maybe the mono input jack was only getting one of the two stereo channels? Maybe? And, just speculating but, maybe the LT tones aren't at all "tuned" for the 210 speakers like they are for its own speaker? :eyebrow:

Thanks for trying, tommy. It was an interesting, if disappointing, experiment. Glad no electronics were harmed.

Yeap, no wear & tear is the best part :D:hyper:
Now, actually there is a boost. Huge boost.
Stupid me kept volume low on LT25 and forgot about it. I think I was stressed too much about frying my amps.
I thought of it after I made a post and now I am repeating my experiment. I also replaced 1/8 to 1/4 end. Something wasn’t sticking right.
Now we talking yuppie :woot::bassist:
Sorry everyone for earlier misinformation

Aha! Did the improved boost make you like the tone from the 210 better, too?

Many thanks for the update, tom t 'rific! Makes part of my world make more sense again. :D (Still don't unnerstood the latency, though.)

Neither do I. That was my perception. But like I said I was super stressed out about burning something.
And my wife said that I am not getting new amp if I burn these so…..

I did go for the Aux just now. Presets sound fantastic thru 210 speakers. But there is no master control on 500 so it’s not gonna work for me.

Doesn't the Master on the LT control the volume on the 500? If so, why need another on the 500? There's no sound from the LT with a plug in the headphones jack, so it's not like you can balance the sound from 2 amps, right?

You are right. There is no sound from LT25 with a plug in the headphones jack. And yes you can control volume with LT master.
However that way all I have is 25 watts through 210 speakers, and I wanted to use some 500 power. So actually LT25 into instrument input of 500 works better for me. I have to independent master volumes
