I agree with rod. if you want to use a twin reverb for bass, i'd at least get a bass cab for it.

Keep your collectors piece. Buy a pair of small amps for your gig, one for each need. For bass the Twin is no good for many reasons. For guitar Twins are generally too too loud. They stay clean until there are no ears nor vermin left in the building.
Since there is PA support you can do a 15 watt all tube guitar combo and a 50-100 watt bass amp. Both small.

What are the perks of removing the head from the combo? I've read that the combo is a bit top heavy but it seems it would remain so even if separated.
I do see the point when choosing to pair the head with other cabs and I also prefer the look of the head/cab over the combo. I may be answering my own question here.
Anyway, any owners add an extension cab to their converted setup? I've been staring at the combo version of one of these and a selling point would definitely be if I could run the 15" in the combo as well as an extra 115 when necessary.

I often use my (converted to head) Studio Bass with 2 (8 ohm) 115's. Works great!!
I don't see how the combo would be top heavy without a 40lb tube head in it tho

I was thinking of separating the head and still using the combo as a cab after some mending. Therefore the head would still sit on the same cab just not attached. I'll get a better understanding of the issue when I see it in person.

Yeah we used it the other night. My guitarist uses a lotta pedals, but he was impressed with it. Great clean Fender tone were his words
i got a fender pro neo 115 cab and it really opens up more when i run the amp into the external cab instead of the combo. i'm probably gunna convert it into a head within the next month or so
Yeah, Tho I've not tried the combo's 1x15 cab, I'd imagine a well designed 1x15 cab these days would be an improvement-depending on yr goals course

I don't play guitar, but, if I did, I could see pairing up the Super Twin/Studio Bass head with either a bass cab or a 212 guitar cab, as needed. If you don't mind using pedals to get your guitar OD, it would be a win-win setup.
my head came from the super twin so i had to get mojo made. i use it with a 2 15 cab and for smaller gigs over a old MM 115Rh cab with a sweet EV 400 Pro i recently had reconed at 4 ohms in it.. Sounds great thru either cab and the MM cab has the same grill cloth as the fender mojo cab i bought.
+1 They work so well with some good cabs.

well i just took a gamble and ordered the mojo twin reverb cabinet for my studio bass. i took some measurements last night when i was at our practice space and i think it will fit, the only thing i'm worried about is the depth
I would call the mojo guys.. IIRC i think it was one of the showman heads but that was for the guitar version super twin not studio bass.. the other thread that JohnK started has the actual of the super twin and the mojo cab link. i will try and add it to this so you can maesure it against the super bass or just ask the mojo guy. I ma sure he would know.

Needs some work on both input jacks. Pots are a little scratchy (thats easy). Power cord has been spliced with a 3 prong plug (not sure how that worked, but that should be an easy fix too)
Came with original RCA USA 6L6GC's. Have not looked at the preamp tubes yet, but they work just fine.
It sounds great with my Berg CN212 (although looks a little odd in a t-bone sort of way). I will probably go with a 2x15 cab similar to john10k's in the near future. Most likely will turn to Dan Oatman of LDS for the build as I am not a particularly handy bass player.

Inputs - there are 2 input jacks. are they the same, or is there some difference. On mine it does not seem like there is much/if any difference.
Tubes - my Studio Bass came with an interesting mix of power tubes. The amp has a sextet of 6L6GC's divided into to triplets.
Power cord: my Studio Bass has a nasty spliced power cord. Looks like a section of the original cord coming from the amp has had a different 3 prong section spliced to it. The seller did not know anything about that, and it does work fine, but I would like to replace this kludge with a stock power cord. Is this a difficult repair, like one that needs a tech to do, or would I find it a pretty obvious thing to repair ?
On mine, one triplet has 2 Fender labeled, USA tubes with the markings: apy28 023556 and 38-14-28 USA
This triplet is rounded out with a USA RCA 6L6GC with no other markings
The other triplet has the same 2 Fender labeled USA 6L6GC's, but the 3rd tube is a USA GE marked HK 188-5
The preamp tubes are 3 Fender labeled 7025's as near as I can tell.
I am mostkly interested in your opinion about these tubes; good/bad, original/replacements etc. The amp works and sounds fine with this tube compliment.

Replacing the power cord should be easy enough. Mine has original fixed power cord in place (it's very clean) & unless it gets wonky, I ain't touching it
