Wow, way to miss the point. Some of you are indeed hopeless... :scowl:

And I have already posted in the current AJ thread.

Apparently some knuckleheads had two closed already since the mag was even released.

Oh yeah- we've got a lot of "professionals" running around these parts! :D

We can agree that the criticism of AJ on at least one thread [now closed] wasn't thought out well.

Well-deserved critiques do make sense sometimes IMO.

step one, turn mid knob off.

step two, be nearly inaudible in the mix.

yep.. korn was not about bass, it was about weird guitars and really jacked up vocals.

thats like saying jason newsted is what made AJFA "great"

I take it you have listened to a Korn song before, yes?

Cause from your post, you clearly have not! :D

Sure, Fieldy doesn't give a damn about theory. But go and try to get that tone and groove, it really ain't easy even though you might want to think it's just click-click-click. I hear the notes, it' difficult because of the A tuning but they're there. That's just the greatest thing, first you can't figure a single note from the riffs but by listening more it starts to become clear and you realize there are notes and such, even though the riffs are like 3-4-3-2-3-2-3-4-3-2-3-2 etc.

Fieldy's great. He's great in the do-your-own-stuff kind of way, not the techical/theoretical BS. He does what he does and makes a hell lot of money. One can argue forever about whether he's a good bassist or not - IMO the important thing is will he be remembered and can his playing style be identified easily? Now THAT is something none of us will probably ever succeed at.

He's no friend by any means. I just think it's damn hilarious to hear this nonsense all the time while he keeps raking it in and selling albums, while most everyone else here sits on their duff whining about it. It just goes to show how many unprofessional "musicians" there are here. How many times have you seen a real bassist in a mag interview or TV spot ragging on another player, just for the hell of it, or to spot their "opinions"? (Jeff Berlin aside, mind you). It's stupid, and pointless. And the pinnacle of the afore-stated p*n*s-envy.
:)

Let me see if I get the important points:

1. selling records means it's a quality product
2. we are all jealous of Fieldy
3. we're not real musicians
4. we all have small, um, well, you know.

Does that sum it up?

:rollno:

I've never seen such p*n*s-envy in my life whenever a Fieldy thread pops up.

I'm sure there's some of that.

But (and I've made this point before) what you're basically saying is that successful artists/celebrities can't be criticized.

Think John Grisham's novels are tripe? Or that Ben Stiller is unfunny? Or that Britney Spears makes terrible music? "Well, they've made more money and sold more books/movie tickets/albums than you."

Popularity does not make you exempt from criticism.

1. Selling records gives you credibility at what you do. How many gold and platinum records do you have? Have you ever thought maybe just you aren't the one getting it? Apparently tens of millions of other people do.
2. I've been down this road before, at least in this mindset- "Hell, I can outplay that guy any day! But he's famous and enjoying what he's doing and people buy their stuff like crack! It's not fair!" Yes- that is jealousy.
3. I said there are plenty of non-professional/I] musicians. It's blatantly obvious. I've pointed to the several easy to read, easy to follow issues on that. :)
4. YMMV. I don't know you, and don't really care to know you that well. :)

Look, I used to be simple-minded about this stuff too. I couldn't believe when I was starting out that guys like Blink-182 and Green Day were killing the radio and TV markets with that "music". I could outplay Mark Hoppus and Mike Dirnt anyday, d@mmit!
But then you realize what works for them works for them, and there's a very good reason they do what they do and got to where they did, and you and I here are talking about it on a bass forum instead of following in those shoes.

When you get it, you'll get it. :)

No, I'm not at all (and I've made this point way too many times here before), but it's the outright attitude of "omgz! feeldy sucks! lolz! click click click!" that stinks this particular forum up.

But, popularity (and numbers) gives you a helluva lot more cred than your joker here on some internet forum. If that's where you focus your drive and attention, which is just to pile on others, as is the common 16 year-old MO of this particular forum, then you get what we have here.

Think you can do better? Have at it hoss. I'll be first in line to tear it down the second it's uploaded. :)

The only simple-minded person I've seen so far on this thread is you my friend...:rollno:

Cool guy
Heh, figures that you're from Texas. Such a cool guy rock star, huh? Sad part is that you probaby suck even worse than Fieldy himself! So why don't you just STFU, TEXAN!!

LOL! :D

Here's hoping your state finally falls off into the ocean!

And at least I can properly spell very basic words like "probably" when I'm railing on someone...
or making a failed attempt, much like you! :D

And please do not PM me again- everyone here deserves to hear your unparalleled artistic and thought-provoking input!
