Also I'm pretty sure that if the players kept on using lots of music theory lingo, that line of instructional videos would lose its broad appeal and wouldn't be as marketable.

This is hilarious. Its an INSTRUCTIONAL video. You are supposed to learn something when watching it. It is supposed to make you a better player.

I watched a number of these previews and they just seem to be magazine articles in video form:

-Bio
-Gear
-Learn to play a song from TAB.

The majority of instructional videos out there seem to be the player showing you how to play THEIR licks. I don't think that is very educational. As much as I like the Jaco video, its basically a lot of footage of him going off. At least the Patitucci and Myung videos have the chord tone exercises where you can actually learn something.

I guess what I'm saying is, these DVD's probably aren't going to teach people anything but they probably aren't going to hurt them either.

BTW, pleasantly surprised to hear Duff McKagan naming the notes he's playing rather than calling out fret numbers.
