yeah, but those millions of dollars came from somewhere...i'm guessing that people are buying their cds...just a guess. They have fans who like the way they sound. thats gotta be some kind of talent if you ask me

I checked out Paul Grey of Slipknot's performance on their first album (pre major label debut), everyone said he was awesome... eh, typical Mr. Bungle ripoff. Not great.

BUUUUUT all this aside, Paul Grey has probably THE greatest metal bass tone. I can't stand a lot of Slipknot, but damn that dude has huge tone on their newer stuff.

fieldy is more if an "image" player, as you can see him portrayed by xzibit in twisted transistor. However he does look cool.


I dont like slipknot. so i havent really listened to them enough to comment on the bass.

However I think shavo is great, SOAD is one of my favourite non "classic" metal bands. also he looks cool, has a goatee AND plays a thunderbird (one of the best looking basses ever IMO, not the best sounding though :P)

People buy N Sync and Michael Bolton albums. NEVER equate success with quality. Look at 50 Cent; pretty much one of the weakest MCs ever, but he's a star these days. I can name you about a billion better hip hop acts who are skilled musicians and don't fall back on tired cliches to sell their records. But still 'Fiddy' makes obscene amounts of money.

Now why is that?

whoa whoa whoa. This guy is great because he a goatee and plays a thunderbird? Not because he doesn't play bass on the albums half the time, and pretty much never writes anything... but his goatee makes him great.

I have lost all faith in the new generation.

i don't know if i agree...i think that Nsync has talent, just in their dancing...and bolton, although he can be annoying, he can belt out the notes better than i can "TELL ME HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU!!!"
even 50 cent (this may be the only time i half defend him...yikes) although i don't like him, i will still admit that he has to be doing something right...people listen to him...maybe the current fad is talking down about women, and how much money they have and people will buy that...if it's taking the easy road, i'd like to see anyone here on TB make it big in the rap genre...heck, sing a sappy love song or do a little dance while you sing and be as big as they are...I am not saying i am a fan of pop music, but i will say that they aren't just bringing people off the street to do those songs.
If you ask me, if you want to guaruntee that you will make money doing music, you will have to play what the people want to hear. Thats exactly what 50, bolton, and nsync did. they played the music people wanted to hear, and they made a boatload of money. Is it selling out? maybe...Are they playing music for a living? yes. I can't blame them for that...

hey guyz this is slipknotz.
I thank you for all of your opinions about Fieldy, Shavo, and Paul. They are some of my fav bass players. I like Geddy Lee and Geezer Butler. The reason i wanted to get opinions was to see how agressive the members were. my instructor after i told him i posted this thread he was like: "Dude they are gonna eat you to pieces and spit you out on the ground". SO i guess he's right.


Whatever I tried being nice. Keep it hard and kepp Rockin"!!!:bassist:

P.S.: im not a crybaby becuz i know half you f***ers are gonna call me that.
