When the MLS gets big enough to start competing dollar-for-dollar with the other sports leagues, then it will change IMHO.
And the only real way to do that is to be successful in the WC and Olympics, developing a national viewing audience, and driving the advertising revenue.

Trust me, most sane people think this is just as bad. England talking heads looking for excuses when their mediocre team "underachieve" when absolutely no one expects them to do any better than they do. Besides themselves.

It's not players either, they have better players, with plenty of experience, than at least half the teams in the Cup. It's how they play. Stevie G as a defensive screen, a role he is, and always has been terrible at(he's always been better driving at goal). He got away with it at Liverpool this season entirely due to firepower, but in the end, who cost them the league? Their awful DM. Then there's playing Rooney out on the wing, to play a 19 year old winger as a attacking mid/number 10. I could rant for days about all the mistakes there, beside the fact they had 3 attacking mids on the bench in Lallana, Wilshere and Barkley that would all have been much better choices.

Baffling.

I need to ramp up my knowledge of the game and strategies so posts like this don't confuse and frighten me.

And don't forget about the women's game. The National Women's Soccer League, now in its second year, appears to be having some success -- and unlike the failed leagues that preceded it, seems to be based on a viable business model and with support from the national federation. ESPN will be televising weekly games for the last several weeks of their season, and then the playoffs -- which hopefully will mean that they'll start getting some coverage on SportsCenter and other ESPN shows. And the national team will be back in the spotlight soon when they begin qualifying for their World Cup. Can you say "Alex Morgan"?
