FIFA World Cup 2014

That was a truly pitiful semi-final. After 30 minutes I thought "this game is going to penalties". Damn, I was just waiting for one team to take a risk and throw players forward, but it never happened. There wasn't one good chance in the whole match.

I just can't see Argentina beating Germany after watching that performance. I hope the final will be different, but the team that goes out and tries to win the match will be the World Champions, and I think it'll be Germany. I predict another hiding for the final: 4-0 to Germany.

Germany plays the same boring style than Argentina, the 7-1 to Brazil just tell me how really bad Brazil is, do not expect something like that this Sunday, at this stage the team that plays the smarter game is the winner, unfortunately, these smart games are usually boring for the average watcher.

Germany all the way for me, Argentina have not been impressive and I will go for the team playing the best football, exhibiting the best teamwork and playing with discipline.
Geography is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned I want a good team!
Yeah, I agree. There's too many teams relying on one or two players. Argentina lost Di Maria, and it cost them. If they were to lose Messi, they'd be stuffed. Same with Brazil; they lost Neymar and Thiago Silva and it hurt them badly, which shouldn't happen at this level of the game. Germany are different - there's no one player that's the star of the team. They just have class all over the field, and on the bench as well. Nice to see Kloser get the record as well; he's had a great career.

I disagree, but we'll find out on Sunday. Let's hope there's an early goal so we don't get another boring (or "cagey" as the commentators like to say) match. A goal in the first 20 minutes (by either side) would be great.

Nowhere seemed to be showing the game here, so been following the text updates.

Arse.

If Argentina were playing as boringly as the text updates made out (the game seems to have mainly been 2 hours of uneventfulness), they could struggle against the Germans.
Both teams played boring football. Too scared of losing to actually try and win. 0-0 games can often be exciting tense matches, but this one wasn't. The goal keepers should have rolled out deck chairs and some Marguerites; they had that little involvement in the game. Let's hope the final is a great match.

So this was the first game of the whole tournament I missed. Just caught one of those compressed into 60 min replays but of course the game being so long it was a replay of a bunch of 3 second clips lol and ofcourse the whole penalty shootout. Couldn't really judge on the play of the team's. Seems Argentina was strong first half since I saw a lot of there clips first 45 min. Glad they won but don't think they can take out Germany. Still hope Messi has a good showing though.

On a side note I missed the game cause I'm back to working. After the last few games and some of the round of 16 I'm glad I decided the 2 weeks off to be to start the tournament and not for the end. Does anyone remember 2 weeks ago when we were watching the greatest world cup ever? ;p let's hope last 2 games are awesome!

Nah,
Dutch vs German or
Niederländisch vs Deutsch. ;)

Just imagine ... if Arg won this thing, would they be a worthy world champion the way they've played so far?
Never ever IMO.

Well, the best playing team is not equal to a worthy champion.

In 1954 Hungary was destroying rivals until they lost the final against A less glamorous Germany. In 1974 Holland had one the best teams in history, but lost to a not worthy Germany again.

Even in Germany, Italy won 2006 WC playing horrible, but they showed what's necessary to become champions.

You just win the Cup or not, it's not a matter of worthiness.

I believe the same.
Germany is the best in the tournament and clearly the favourite to win.

True enough. Italy in 2006 were the worst side ever to win the World Cup in my memory. I remember the final well - Thierry Henry (the best striker in the world at the time) was knocked senseless in the first few minutes, and the match was held up for about 5 minutes for him to recover. He continued to play, but I think he was seeing albino squirrels instead of the ball for most of the game. I think if Henry had been at his best, France would have won - they should have won anyway with the squad they had. Italy only beat Australia in the round of 16 with a very dubious penalty in the 93rd minute (every Aussie football fan remembers that one). One of the worst penalty decisions I've ever seen (though I'm certainly biased).

Still, in this WC, I don't think any team has been outstanding, though Germany have looked the best in my opinion (and I'll win some decent cash if they win). Even so, I'd rather see either team win the game properly than having to resort to yet another penalty shootout - that's no way to decide the World Champions. I want to see a match worthy of a WC Final, no matter who wins.

On a good note, the refereeing has been pretty good this tournament. The refs have mostly kept their cards in their pockets, and there whistles out of their gobs, and there have been very few matches decided by dubious decisions.
