FIFA World Cup 2014

This is quite funny to me, because I know Americans & American soccer fans who hate Mexico/Mexican fans because of their arrogance and superiority complex over the likes of the USA.

That's a little different because the US has an excellent record against Mexico over the past 15 to 20 years, so it's become a rivalry, and rivalries entail "trash talk" to your rivals.

As a neutral, ask any Mexico fan if he thinks the US has a good team and he will likely say, "Most of their players are sub-par, but they have a good team."

Besides, now that half the US team is German, the quality of "American" players is a moot point. ;)

Little different, not serious, just something I find funny as it's a conversation I end up having quite regularly. Albeit with some names switched about.

What do you think of Argentina's chances and play in general so far?

Argentina is not playing well.
The team depends too much on Messi, but defense is weak and strategy a bit chaotic sometimes.

Historically obtained good results against South Americans but fails against big European team (GER, NED, ITA).
They still have the potential to improve, but don´t have the Home advantage of Brazil or the regularity of Germany or Netherlands.

He'll be back before November, should have been much harsher.
You sound really relieved, I can understand how insecure you and another few here would be if he had been allowed to play and thus disrupting your so perfect predictions.

In any case, "Arriba la Celeste, carajo", against FIFA, the media, and the whole world, either we lose now or we win....Uruguay forever....and for those still liking their wounds of defeat, be easy on the door when you close it behind ya.

Man this had to have been the worst group of the bunch. Belgium wins 3 games but by 1 goal each game against not too much of a competitive group. I think, in my opinion ofcourse, the US has to be the only 2 place team that's going to be the favorite in the round of 16. They lucked out.

I think you must nit be familiar with the Belgian team. They are absolutely world class. The US will definitely not be favorites.

And "someone" sounds like a lot of people from Uruguay (namlely Coach Tabarez, Lugano and the UFA)... in utter denial! . . . Sorry man but ... "Sonás como un porteño herido de muerte" (you know exactly what I mean)

Algeria join Nigeria as the second African team to get through to the last 16. And now, having had our football addiction tuned to a peak of total dependency after a diet of 3 or 4 games a day every day for the last fortnight, we're going to have to endure the cold turkey of footie deprivation all day today. I've started to twitch already.

Good to see gecko shopping up to his usual high standard.

To be clear on the rules for predictions from this point:
the score we will use is the score after extra time and before penalties - do if you think it will go to a penalty shoot out, then enter your score as a draw!
Hope that makes sense - draws can happen but you can't predict a score based on a penalty shoot out.
So result is taken as score after extra time, before penalties.

It's not a matter of the names they carry, but what I've seen in the field. They haven't played that well and haven't blended in too great. Same reason why after first games I told my girlfriend Costa Rica would win that group, cause she's a huge Italy fan. England and Uruguay also have amazing players but it's the fluidity that translates on the field. That's why I would say the US should be favored that game. And that's not coming from a big US supporter because I am not, just what I see on the field.

Yep, I haven't seen much from their other big name players (Aguero's been invisible). Still, I guess if you have to rely on one player, it'd be Messi, but I agree that if they meet one of the big European teams, their defence is going to be shown up.

As for Suarez, he's now become a truly World Class scumbag. The guy surely has a few kangaroos loose in his top paddock. If there was any honour in the game, his career would be over, but Real Madrid will probably still buy him (in 6 months or so). They don't seem to care much about club image as much as they do about beating Barcelona.

Anyway, has the pool started for the knockout rounds yet?
