Big Premier League fan here, but it's difficult to keep up with all the other top European Leagues. I'll casually follow La Liga in Spain, but haven't been following Bundesliga or Serie A nor Ligue 1 (Germany/Italy/France) for the past few years.

But the World Cup is different, as even the tiniest of nations play with such national pride and passion. Plus, there's always a chance to see the next Zidane head butt!

Good opening weekend. Other than Germany thrashing Curacao, most matches were worth watching.

Netherlands vs Japan...first half was a snoozefest, but that second half was one for the ages. Very exciting.

Indeed. This is one of the reasons I watch the Cup; things like that can and sometimes do happen. Like Saudi Arabia beating Argentina last time, or Germany clobbering Brazil 7-1 in 2014, or, for that matter, Morocco's run in 2022.

With more teams and the expanded format we'll either see more lopsided wins and/or possible upsets like today.

My team New Zealand, drew 2-2 with Iran. Last time NZ was at the World Cup they drew ever game they played. If they get into the next round I think I'm be happy with that. I'm cheering for England also. They came close at The Euros.
