fifa world cup 2026

"sport" is doing heavy lifting in that context.
You spend 3 hours doing high g's in a car where it's 150 degrees inside, and then tell me it isn't physically demanding. Yes, the guys in the Tour de France are in better cardiovascular shape, but there are plenty of sports (golf, football, baseball, etc.) where many of the guys are in far worse shape than a typical race car driver.

Google Nascsr (or Indy car) fitness and you’ll find out that you’re quite wrong. Drivers have to pass physicsl and cognitive tests to be allowed ro race. The extended VO2 demands on a driver over 2 to 3 hours are the same level and durations as running a marathon, and then there’s the heat. And the g forces. You have to be in really good shape.

As an England fan that won’t be visiting your country to watch any of the matches, 100%’agree. Should only be awarded to countries that actuality like the sport.
So you speak on behalf of the U.S. fanbase? Premier League ratings go up every year. As soon as it became regularly televised I became a fan. Need exposure to like something.
Actually challenging/overtaking the NHL in ratings.

Seriously doubt that compares to the number of people who line the roads of France for three weeks.
That depends if you consider a few thousand miles of stretched out asphalt to be a "place" or not. And the folks that see the start of a stage are there for a few hours, in which the racing goes past in a few minutes. and....long gone before the end of the stage. It's not like they're all watching the thing the whole time

They are very different things. Apples and briefcases.

Agree to disagree.
The racecourse is the site.
The open road and access is part of the magic.

We love the women's game here.
I've been lurking the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team thread for a long time because it's the only soccer specific thread on here. Seeing how this thread is going it kinda still is. USWNT game last night was crazy btw.
I've been a fan of the game since about 2000. Follow LA Galaxy, United and the US national teams. Been a LA Galaxy season ticket holder for 23 years. That's all

I feel you. I got seriously into soccer in the late '90s, when my daughter started playing. I often say it was girls and women who taught me really to love the game. The USWNT is my favorite team, but I also follow the USMNT and, like you, the Galaxy (even though I now live in the Bay Area). I draw the line at United, though.;)

Please drop by the USWNT thread and join in the conversation. There aren't very many of us actively participating there and more would be merrier. (I'm actually headed there shortly to post some thoughts about last night's cage match against Brazil.)

Small world -- funny meeting you here. Meet me over at the USWNT thread when you're free....

I've been to the TDF a couple of times. It is much as you describe. Except. As with any area there are different routes between towns. You can see the start of a stage. take a route not used by the bikes to, say, a mid-route sprint. Then do the same to see the finish.
