fifa world cup 2026

I'm hoping the USA squad can overcome Pulisic's likely absence and eke out a win over Australia today. I keep reading that he's doubtful for this match. Of course they did fine in the second half without him against Paraguay, but I'd rather have him in there if possible.

Doing just fine in the first half w/o Pulisic.

The Aussies could get very physical in the 2nd half. I suspect the German referee will have little tolerance for cheap shots.

45 minutes to go...

Although that's a frustrating way to lose a game, it's true that it doesn't matter much. I thought we actually played reasonably (not superbly) well in a number of respects, but that backline never looked like everybody was on the same page. I don't think any of the game 3 first-time starters made a strong case that they could do well with more minutes, except Berhalter, and at a stretch Trusty. Weah and Aaronson were active but not terribly effective, Reyna was safe but showed no creative spark, Scally was OK but didn't bring as much as Freeman IMO, and McKenzie and M Robinson looked out of sync at times.

Given the players in the squad, I guess Pochettino got it pretty much right with that game 1 lineup, and game 2 wasn't bad either. In particular, I think playing Dest as a winger rather than a right back was a really smart move. Dest has never been a great defender, but he's very good on the ball, and having him and Freeman working the right side can cause problems for a lot of defenses.

Excellent summary. I concur.

My team of New Zealand is out, which is not to be expected to be honest. Just got thrashed by Belgium 5-1. ouch... But Mexico and France are both on 9 points, and Argentina are playing Jordan so they'll probably get on a winning streak also. If I had to predict, France or Argentina could possibly take it.
